I do love a red car at least we have two in the family and replaced a red Honda with a red Qashqai to keep the theme going. I had two people compliment my car yesterday after a spruce up. First wash after laying down a first coat of the first luxury wax of 2024 by Mitchell & King here in Glasgow.

Hi Nick, always good to watch and learn from you. I have some questions for you: Where do stand on applying foam to a dry car versus a wet car? Also, what is your take on panel impact ratios? Most products don’t mention it all. I did watch something that shows just how much foam is needed for a specific PIR. If you use a 1 litre pump sprayer you’d add 40 ml of foam and top up with water to 1 litre to give a 4 % PIR. If you then fill a foam lance with water and attach it to your pressure washer and empty the lance into a bucket and work out how much liquid is in the bucket, then in the example that I saw, you’d need to 450ml to a 1 litre lance to achieve a 4% PIR, which seems a bit hefty. So my point is, how much foam is too much foam? Long-winded I know, but curious regarding these points!

Regards the wet and dry discussion, there is a full series planned to showcase live both methods and the pros and cons PIR, again such a deep topic which we will film about but I will also when you have too achieve a certain ratio by putting in 500ml of product is not very impressive at all...

Brilliant, but disagree with starting with a high pressure wash first. with grit on the car, it's like sand blasting, personally, I put on a citrus pre wash, with a snow foam over the top. As the snow foam drops off , now safe to use the jet wash.

There is a video series coming regards testing both methods. But let us me tell you this, whilst other people on RU-vid may favour the other method the true indicator is paint integrity under direct light. The paint on the GTI is flawless using this method so sandblasting the car may sound one way in theory but in real life has 0 effect as can be seen by any eye. Either way we will film the in-depth series on pre washing to show both sides of the debate

Both methods are valid and have their place. In this instance with a heavily protected car, the high pressure rinse is fine as the minimal dirt is sat on top of a protective coating. Where you have a heavily soiled and possibly less protected car then the citrus pre wash would be beneficial. Followed by a foam coating. Personally for heavy soiling I use a mix of citrus and foam. Particualrly with YUM products but not exclsusive, the capillary action lifts the dirt up and encapsualtes it very well before a safe rinse off.

I’m to scared to go to the bottom I use another wash pad to do bottom I do the top half all the way around then the bottom all the way round is this wrong nick as it takes me ages

It’s not wrong at all, and realistically the best way to do it if you don’t wash the car too regularly. With how I do it i know the pre wash has done the job so I safely use one pad. The paint condition is perfect so it also works

Pre wash citrus has its place. Depends how protected and soiled your vehicle is. If you are going long periods between washes and have heavy road grime build up then yes. Citrus will help. A lot.
