When spending the kind of money we spend on our uniforms its disappointing when we start seeing them start to discolor and turn yellow. In this video I go over the things I do to keep them looking bright, white and of course clean.

I’m practice a different martial art but I was scrolling through how to whiten a martial arts uniform and found this vid I have tried using detergent on the yellow spots I am actually trying the laundry strip to see if that works ( powder oxi clean and laundry detergent I think that is correct but find out it has to soak for 1 hour

If you got some blood stains on the gi (which isn’t super common but it happen from time to time). You want to watch the gi is in as cold water as possible. And absolutely not dry it in the dryer. Heat is your enemy for bloodstains. If you wash a bloodstain in even slightly warm water, you will just set the blood stain and make it super super hade go remove. As I believe I’ve heard anything above body heat will colligate the blood, and set the stain. Often you will find a couple of small blood stains on the arms or along the end of the legs. And you will recognise them because they will be the hardest stains to get out. A blood stain that has been washed will look light brown yellow-ish, or if you washed the gi with really alkeline stuff. The ph will change the colour and the stain might look a bit blue-ish. If it’s a fresh blood stain that you notice, say from a nose bleed or like a fingernail that does a shallow cut on your foot or something, then just immediately go to the toilet, use only cold water and run the part of the gi with the blood on it under the tap. While it’s fresh, it’s super easy to get out. Wash the blood out and then toss the gi in the washer with a cold wash, right away the first thing you do when you come home. I fear no other stain. But a blood stain not even bleach or really anything wont do much about it once it’s collegiated.

All sound advice but I just wanted to mention that my size A2 GIs will air dry in a full day. MAAYBE a day and a half if it’s very cold. But a week is a huge exaggeration from my experience.

Thanks for providing your experience. I really do appreciate it. For me, it really does take a long time to air dry. This is probably affected by the size (mine is larger than an A2), also I live in a humid climate that is always 70% plus humidity every day. On dry hot days, yes, it does dry faster, but I can just drop it in the dryer and not worry about it. Happy training brother!

@@ScottyKarate I was actually thinking humidity might be the case. I live in Northern California so it’s really never humid here.

oxiclean soak, normal wash, vinegar in the rinse/softener cycle and bluing

Do you live in a humid area? I kinda go by the 24 hours to hang dry my A6.
@ScottyKarate

Yeah. Depending on the time of year it will take almost a week to dry. But I have never had any issues using the dryer

Hey is it okay if I wash my gi with other colors
@joeshithragman3264
@joeshithragman3264 2 года назад
With just one wash with other colors a white Gi will lose the bright white and start taking on a slight greyish/yellowish hue, while some colors may run and you may get a red spot on the white Gi (both from experience).

I dont wash mine with anything else. Keeping them white is pretty difficult so I only wash them. This is why I recommend having at least to Gis that way you can wear the two before washing and if you have heavy Gis then it will be a pretty full load. Good question!
