In this video, we'll show you a simple solution to the common problem of running out of PET filament while 3D printing. Our method will allow you to weld multiple filament bottles together, giving you the freedom to print larger 3D models without having to pause and change the filament. By the end of this video, you'll be able to weld PET filament with ease and continue printing without interruption.

It good method, I did it many times but I found that if I dry welded filament in dryer around 65C, welded connection becomes weak and sometimes it breaks when printer pulls it. I'm looking for better method if anyone has an idea? I thought that inserting thin pet strip into both filaments and somehow weld them. idk..

After joining all my filament I run it through my hotend for a second time to get much better consistency throughout the entire roll of filament.

i have always been thinking about shredding the plastic parts you wanna make your filament out of, in your case (PET bottles), so that you could make hundreds of them, put them on the same pocket, start feeding the plastic shredded partials into your filament making machine.

Although it is possible to use the method you mentioned, I personally believe that it is more suitable for PLA granules. For PET bottles, strip to filament extrusion would be a better option as it eliminates concerns about moisture, pulling rate, and filament diameter.

Would a heatgun be a better option than a lighter in the heating step?

I think one problem with the heat gun is that it will also melt the PLA 3D model. If you can direct air from heat gun to the edge of pet filament then it can work
