I had a debate in class. I wasn't confident and had a mental breakdown during. I have social anxiety and speaking in a room of another part of the class judging you, was just a no for me. I wasn't supposed to be the one debating but my teacher put me up against his favourite student. I didn't care but he called my anxiety and mental breakdown during the debate was a waste of time and nonsense. He said I was using it for pity just because I can't go against his favourite student. I was in tears until the bell rang. In short I lost the debate, and disappointed and shamed myself infront of 22 people. So I have made it my goal to take my stand, kniw my facts and techniques, and goal to be a Lawyer. Thank you so much for the tips

I have a debate on Monday, and i really want to win because my friend said that I don't stand a chance.... but my teacher disagrees with the side that I'm debating on and she decides who wins 🙄🙄 but also my friend thinks she is amazing at debating but all she does is shout 😂 and she doesn't listen to your point (this has turned into a rant sorry) lol Edit: here's an update, we drew! Im really happy with that as my side was the harder one to do 😄

When I lose an argument, I’ll spent my next 10 hours watching these types of videos and thinking what I did wrong and if I was morally wrong or correct

I’m here over a year later, and I do appreciate this very much. I’ve scraped into the finals of a “Influential leaders of the world debate”, and I’m really trying to perfect the art of it. I’m not exactly a fan-favorite, but I feel like a well constructed argument using these tips will tilt the scale on my side. Thank you!

step 1: stop thinking of debates as a win/lose thing. They should be a learning experience, not an opportunity for you to broadcast your intelligence (or lack thereof) to the world. If you don't think you can learn anything from a debate, don't have it, unless it's on a topic you consider to be of importance to global well-being. In which case, if you don't think you can persuade anyone, don't have the debate unless you also think you can learn something from it.

These are good. I was taught by a good debater that you don't want to be on defense any longer than you have to be. State your defense and move on. Also don't let your opponent off the hook concerning a bad argument. Make them defend it.

My debates in class are always 1v30 😢 I always defend the point that no one defends because teacher will give better grades to them

3:53 Absolutely not. The other person giving up without changing their mind is not a victory, it's an utter disappointment. The debate achieved nothing, that's not a victory. Victory is causing either you or them (preferably both) to learn something, regardless of the outcome of the debate itself.

This is funny, I'm surprised by the video because I do win almost all of my arguiments among friends and doing all those things mentioned in the video without even realizing it. All those tips do help winning an argument, however it doesn't imply you can win any arguiments you think of being in your perspective because sometimes you turn out wrong in the end. Thanks :-)

When they pull out the card : " You're acting though as if you're being conspired against!!! " when you're calmly, w/o raising your voice stressing a point... They get routed up, theres absolutely no choice but to retaliate in a( parallel to their response manner )rather than let em believe what they choose to believe; or else they'll do it to you again. At times to not make a big deal; which surely will lead em to "BELIEVE" "He or she is wrong!" they go about tho as they have nothing to apologize for ... being they composed the confrontation and got away on the account of the opponent's "trying to keep the ✌." There are shameless people like that I tell you.

I have to participate in a debate competition tomorrow and I hope this would help me. I'm really nervous since it would be my first time participating outside of my school.

I already know everything because I have never lost, but I'm just watching to see if it's reliable honestly. so let me say my problems. 1. "Don't attack." attack. you need to attack. play the defensive when they attack you and attack when they are done. think of it like guerilla tactics. 2. "be silent." don't be silent. always be loud and proud, but not too loud. make sure its loud enough to where they can listen. doing this will make THEM be silent and listen.

I'm trying to master this that way I can win a argument against my parents the next time we argue. If your parents try to guilt trip you like mine will just say your just mad because you can't take advantage of me. Then walk away and if they try to tell you to come out of your room say I'm not going to argue with an adult 2 year old. If you say that this won't work and it may not but I live in a house with a tiger mom and I've been able to win a argument ever since. If you don't know what a tiger mom is it's basically like a Asian mom but is not asian. Look it up if you're still confused

Someoen help me istg. So I had an appointment at a dermatologist or well just a “skin doctor?” Don’t really know what it’s called but yeah. I had an appointment there yesterday and I didn’t receive a SMS about it, so I had forgotten since I got this appointment 4 months ago and I didn’t write it down. I specifically asked them to send me a message a couple of days before my appointment and they agreed to do that. They also just do that in general, because my step mom had an appointment there and she didn’t ask for a text but still got one - so it’s natural for me to TRUST and believe that they’ll deliver good service by reminding me a couple of days before. Well they didn’t, and I only rmebered that it was in January, not the date. So I call them today and ask them when my appointment is, and they tell me I should’ve been there yesterday. ALSO since I didn’t show up, I have to pay money cuz yeah that’s the law since 2015. But I feel like it is soo unfair, because I did nothing wrong. They promise me to send me a message and when they don’t do that, they say it’s my fault for not writing it down myself somewhere??? Like it’s not fair no matter what. All the special doctors send messages out, like The ophthalmologists and so on. So now i have to pay some money, and with all honesty I could easily pay it but I don’t want to, because it’s not fair. I did nothing wrong... when they tell me they’ll send a message, then I expect them to. Then not doing it is not my problem. I have no idea how to defend myself tomorrow. Cuz like I’m scared of crying or shouting which I shouldn’t do.. someone advise me please..

With all due to respect this didn’t help much, it’s more about psychological demeanour, (and much of it I don’t even agree with) and less about the art of logical argumentation, you just highlighted some basic don’ts. The only thing I gave thought to was being open-minded, which I need to do more.

My empathy is way to high to just try to be the winner of debate, I always ask questions juts to dig deeper into a person perspective rather than just claim that I'm right.

what are signs of 'wining a debate'? From the video I conclude is that when the other side either switches topics OR just leave a debate. But what if we are so aggressive that the other side does not consider worth continuing? What if we play by 10 rules, but the other side just stubbornly does not want to acknowledge the facts or our strong arguments? I'm not talking about academic arguments in classroom, but in real life situations; like husband-wife, work relationships...situations where blame-game is the name of the game. thanks
