Follow Me On Twitter! / hensama24 In this series, I take a look at all of the localization differences between Rockman.EXE Axess and Mega Man NT Warrior Access. This video focuses on Episodes 1 - 9, what I call the Cross Fusion Arc.
Using glowing to censor injuries to digital characters sounds like a good idea on paper, right up until you find out that the characters are robots, and the glowing censorship doesn't hide blood, guts, or nudity, but dented or broken pieces of metal. Who was this censored for?
For very protective parents, the mere fact that something whole got dismembered in half, would piss off the karens. Regardless if it's a bunch of bolts.
I never understood censoring food like they don't want kids to see what another countries food looks like or like parents would get upset that another country food is in their childrens cartoons.
It was more so a hyper literal approach to localization. They wanted children to believe this was happening in America, somewhere familiar to them. That begs the question as to how far ought these companies go to localize a product for a foreign audience.
It's stuff like this is why I stick to watching the original Japanese version with English subtitles with animes like this because it all of these changes that just messes up all of the hard work that the original production crew put into the anime
These weird little unnecessary censorship things are why Toonami ended up dominating the after school block from network television in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. It’s why Saturday morning cartoons went away. When Cartoon Network started added the blood back into Dragon Ball Z, and they (in a different time slot, although Toonami did end up airing it too) were getting away with black oil “blood” shooting out during robot rights in Samurai Jack while keeping a TV-Y7 rating, it was just like “why are you still doing weird censorship stuff” when it came to Fox and Kids WB. I’m almost surprised that post Samurai Jack we didn’t see more action cartoons that used robots to get away with cool action fights they’d ever be able to do with cartoon people. Because Samurai Jack showed you could do it and still have a TV-Y7 rating.
I get the edits in the hot springs episode as FCC would have had a field day of anything that implied something inappropriate between an older woman and a young kid.
Hey dude...another Deleted Scene that you forgot to add, was the scene where Cross Fusion Lan is getting beat, then Maylu comes to his rescue and she transform into Cross Fusion with Roll.Exe and defeat the enemy, only it was a dream that Maylu had. And...lets not forget the episode where Lan and Maylu goes on a Date, yes a Date, they go to the Amousment Park and have fun.
Removing episode titles make absolutely no sense? Like, how are viewers supposed to know which episode they're on without it? Also, what's with all these violent scenes and words being removed? This is 4Kids level stupid!
You have to understand that this was that Megaman NT Warrior was dubbed back in 2002 for the kids WB Network and back then these networks had say of can be shown and what can't be shown. Look what viz media has done with the redub of Sailor Moon it is completely uncut an uncensored you get the final season and you get the lesbian relationship between Uranus and Neptune from season 3 is back in the 90s they were considered cousins in the cloverway dub
@@austinsadler And that's what I want more of. Uncensored and uncut shows that are faithful to the source material. Not completely altered content because OMG! Think of the children! Like, violence and nudity is one thing, but words on signs or Japanese food? What's so offensive about that?
@@nine_tails137 okay but you have to think about it early 2000s and late 90s anime was completely different than it is today. Did they cut out Japanese text yes why for localization purposes so that way when kids are watching the show they think that the show is happening in America not in Japan. I'm going back to Sailor Moon it was the same way in the late 90s early 2000s were they censored out Japanese writing but the anime was still based in Japan. But when you buy the uncut version of the Sailor Moon anime DVDs that came out in 2000 they still had the Japanese opening title card in Japanese writing. Now when it comes to Pokemon that was licensed and distributed through 4kids back then before it got bought out by Cartoon Network. And they also changed Japanese food like rice balls to jelly filled donuts and one time in the advanced season there was a giant rice ball rolling down a hill and they change that to a sandwich and it all had to do with localization back then
@@austinsadler I know that, but it doesn't make it any less stupid. Plus if it's Japanese writing, just translate it into English writing. For example: Taito Station could be changed to Game station. Sure it's not an accurate translation, but it still(more or less) conveys the store's theme.
Super happy to see Access get analyzed too! Maybe it'd be too niche but I wonder how different the English Singaporean dub is compared to the original? I'm pretty sure they keep all Japanese names at the very least.
Nowadays here in my country lots of older anime fans always pray to anime doesn't get popular in United State, because US media sanitarizes a lot the products.
I was recently debating rewatching Megaman NT warrior cause I only watched the english version when it aired on TV in the mid 2000's, happy this video popped up for me when it did haha, I wanna check out the subbed version now
I'm studying censorship and see that the clips were censored for several reasons: commercial needs, violence, and body shaming natural physique (if the consensus is that it's attractive). Much of the footage is clipped to shorten the running time I imagine. Other clips are definitely on the grounds of violent acts; those get clipped. And still other clips are definitely done because of shame over a persons natural physique (the "Adam & Eve body shaming" mentality) and that's clear when the lengthen the towel to meet the male cultural standard (here) that males must wear shorts (or towels) below the knee. If it's higher up, it's considered provocative. Both genders seem to censored equally in this cartoon. But, what I've observed as a censorship double standard in movies and mainstream media is Not present in this footage. In other words, I'm talking about the general trend of commercial media to male-body-shame but not female-body-shame. That happens in media where males are never allow to show their legs above the knee, or to show their seat rounds in cleavage, even though females can show there's, and they can show their legs above the knees, and show chest-rounds cleavage, and seat-rounds cleavage. Those were not allowed in prior generations for females when at the same time males were allowed to show seat-rounds cleavage and above the knee on their legs. (watch 1950s college basketball footage and their cheerleaders). Sports are definitely been censored unnaturally in this respect against males in recent decades: males generate more muscle heat in athletics, especially at the elite levels, and they require more exposed air ventilation to allow naturally evaporation cooling of those muscle groups than females, yet we see those males with more clothing on preventing cooling in males, with less clothing on females to allow more cooling when less is necessary for them. Last word on this video: it's not guilty of gender biased censorship is it clips both female scenes where the cartoon is considered attractive, and male scenes where the cartoon is considered attractive. On other cartoon series they actually censor both genders physiques equally (if attractive) but if they have the same gender of the same age in a cartoon, then they show cleavage and bare skin in areas considered provocative (if attractive) but allowed a Pass if the consensus is that the cartoon-person is "unattractive". So, I'd advise the watchers to look at all cartoons in this series to see if they are using double standards to censor human physiques if they are "attractive" but not if "unattractive". There are a number of youth who have reported having their photos erased or censored while others not-censored in the exact same situation, and it's because the censor makes a determination that the "attractive" youth must be censored. This is a cause for alarm because I've analyzed a serious uptick in youth suicide, and surprisingly it's from those that i'd judge as attractive if I were the censor, so I do think that attractive youths are being targeted and discrimination and other harms are falling on them as a consiquence
I thought ViZ were the ones who were releasing anime unedited/uncensored. Like i see people singing their praises about how their dubs are so much better/faithful than previous dubbing companies. Yet from this video they appear to do the exact same thing as other companies, the only difference is the script is more faithful and they usually keep the OG music. I don't get it. I see so many people act like ViZ is pique dubbing, yet they're clearly doing the same editting/censoring that other companised get criticised for.
So, they pretty much removed every scene where characters display any type of emotion that denotes distress, like, why though? So they don't look like weaklings or what?
So many of these changes just feel incredibly unnecessary and like a waste of resources. I'm not even talking about the weird glowing effect (even though it doesn't even change much, but BS&P for kids show were hyper-sensitive), I'm talking more about the scene cuts and background text edits, as there is little to gain from changing them.
Finished watching the series a few months ago. Was kinda disappointed. But I did like these videos, seeing what I missed out on before I had to watch megaman stream in subbed. And you can't even find the last 2 episodes for season 5 subbed. This show had so much potential, but I'll stick to the games.
So many things that Western dubbing companies do just completely fucking baffles me... like how are you going to have a technology themed cartoon censor the file names of its technology-based power-ups?? Like a western kid who's watching a internet technology cartoon isn't already going to understand that this is the shape of a file name? and if they really didn't understand, and have to ask their parents, at least one of them should know what a file name in a computer looks like, because most kids that are watching cartoons about computers have a computer in their fucking house. Every single bowling alley in America has his own fancy name! sometimes they have the word bowling in their name but most of the time they don't. they have a pun. Western and Eastern people all like puns in their store names. Star Lanes next to a picture of a bowling ball and bowling pins flying across pretty accurately carries the message that this is a fucking bowling alley. But no, we need to retexture the entire surface of the building to make sure it says the phrase bowling alley so that American children can understand what the fuck a bowling alley is without having to ask anyone first ever. Oh no the energy laser sword looks too much like a sword we need to fuzz out all the fucking edges so the kids' parents don't get traumatized by the shape of a sword.... Jonochi needs to be changed into Joey wheeler, angry government agents need to have fingers instead of guns, things like aha okay or yeah buddy need to be changed with a character's full fucking name so the people know what they're responding to, and onigiri can't be called a rice ball no it needs to be changed into a jelly fucking donut... Oh yeah, and nobody should ever be expected to know what a Philosopher is so it's the smart man's rock
Maybe I should speak English in the comment communication. I have a question. What is the title of that soundtrack that appears in your video? I mean this C-Minor soundtrack I hear during your complete video, how i this soundtrack called and does this soundtrack or that tune or music have a name? Please name that tune of your video here for me! I ask you this sincerely. And I hope you can answer me that question. Have a nice time!
@@gundambassexe31 You are correct. You really gave the right answer. I am very thankful and grateful. I thank you so much for your help. I am very happy that you supported me in finding the soundtrack. And you did it! I give you a lot of thanks! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Man..... with all those cut out, what even they are watching? XD And why bother cutting out Enzan's commercial anyway? XD Just as I thought, the best way to enjoying thing is watching from original country one, not dubbed one, wether what country is :3
He didn’t say it was a change. He just mentioned what the titles were called in both versions. He did that with the other arcs and with Sonic X as well.
To be fair japanese onsens are a bit difficult to assimilate for Western audiences. It’s weird how “normal” it is for people of all ages to just bathe together.
plenty of other countries are racist too, Australia especially(just look at the racist comic that one guy did about Serena Williams and he threw a hissy-fit when people called him out on it).
Sensitive and overly puritanical, for sure. Racist in this instance? Don’t really see it. Cultural norms are different in different countries my man. Not a thing unique to America by any stretch of the imagination. Are American companies racist because they take skulls/skeletons out of Chinese media because it offensive to them? It’s a bad word to throw around frivolously when it doesn’t apply and ends up helping make light out of genuinely racist stuff. Just sayin. Don’t know why I wrote all this when this is probably a kid.
