How We Fixed

One of the top several young talents on the Disc Golf Pro Tour, Cole Redalen reached out to me because he was struggling with his putting. At one point this season he even considered leaving the Disc Golf Pro Tour and going home.
I asked him to send a video of his putt and I immediately spotted what was wrong. It was mechanical and the fix was simple if he applied my Stokely Method guidelines. Here’s how I did it!
Thank you Cole for allowing me to work with you AND for letting me share about it. Means the world to me and my ability to work with other top players in the future :-)

Out of all the younger players, cole has a good grasp on expressing himself with words. He will nail press conferences and post win interviews, just needs the chance. Hope he gets it.

Looking back on this video now, look at Cole’s confidence in the big putt situations he’s had this season, especially at Ledgestone. Wow.

While we don't want him repeating his past mistakes perhaps there was a video showing the error he was making, like the one that tipped you off about what was going wrong, that could have a had a clip placed in this vlog to help us see what was happening. This in turn could've helped others with self analysis and then progress. Still a good video Scott! And I will be watching for and rooting for Cole in the future.

I've struggled with pulling right on every putt and after watching this and all of the old coverage of cole I figured out what the fix was. In his new form everything is the same except for how far out he holds the disc at the beginning of the putt. In the past it was closer to himself

My son and I met Cole a little over 3 years ago at our local 9 hole course in Newberg. He was videotaping ace runs on one of the holes and he let us throw when he was picking up his discs and my son almost aced literally right on front of his face. Good times. Been a fan ever since.

yeah like imagine you and the goal are in a tight hallway and the walls are touching the sides of the goal that tight etc you need to throw the disc within the walls and the follow through of the putting arm must stay within the walls etc this has helped me but now im dealing with how to be smooth with my wrist sometimes it wants to be snappy and sometimes stiff and in between is right for me so thats just going to take tons of practice i think

I played doubles with Cole in Portland. He's an incredible talent. His putting frustration is interesting, because I watched him drain some of the longest putts I've ever witnessed. Maybe that's the lesson, we can always improve. Good luck Cole, rooting for you buddy!

Glad you fixed his putting quandary. When Cole came to our illustrious Disc Golf Teaching organization begging us for a quick fix, or to put him out of his misery, assessing the situation, we immediately recommended a tried and true Eskimo technique to remedy his heinous putting stroke, it was the old 'Baby Harp Seal Clubbing' technique where you take a baby harp seal out to a local club and just, forget about it.

the theme of this video is how to have the right mechanics within your body frame bcuz each body is different each mechanics of each thrower should be slightly different as well.. great thoughts to ponder

@10:00 - I can't really take my rear foot up when I putt.. It throws me off. I have to feel stable at the hips..at least for a semi close range .. different factors for different distances of course. Been playing around with both arm releases at mid-range and close puts (ambedextrous) and it's feeling pretty nice not as awkward as I first though it would be. Thanks for your efforts. Good video that will help many folks.

Big fan of both of you! Cole is such an amazing talent, I was smart, early on and made a point to watch him play, when he came to Washington. I love watching young players, especially those who RESPECT the ones who did it before them, (Cole/Ahrens bros/Matteio Jr) these kids are scholars of the game and it’s awesome! Scott, you are such a legend, Scott Papa (the other legend who could fixed Coles putt) is a good friend of mine and when you surprised everyone competing again at your age, Scott called it! He knew you were gonna do it, because to disregard and discount someone’s will especially a HOF legend of the game, like yourself is just stupidity! Typical interneters! Cheers to ya both!

If we come up with the money, we are signing up Ms. Evelina. The only part of her game missing is the C1 putting. Outside of C1 without expectations, she is great. It's 50% mechanical which you can fix and the other 50% is confidence. Would love to see her after one session with you Scott. Love the content!

Loved this video Scott! One thing about being a great player is recognizing where you can grow and always remain a student. Gonna have to join the class because I feel like I just need some mechanical tweaks. I can throw 420' but I feel like I'm leaving so much on the table still. Putting for me is EXACTLY how Cole said at the beginning of the video as well. This gives me so much HOPE!

Respect the promotion, selling is a tough gig, and then, in your case, you have to execute with some results - this is what America is about, or supposed to be about. Enjoyed the book, a lot, especially history chronology. When It finished I wanted the rest of the story - maybe that's on the way !

“Range of acceptability” or “art not science” is the worst type of attitude to have if you’re trying to be competitive in any sport. There is a biomechanically correct way to do everything in disc golf and that was not it.

Derek disc golf is a little different right now. There is a point in a backhand, forehand, or putt, where everyone’s form is similar. Your form at That point is what determines how far you can throw or how consistent your release is when putting. How you get to that point is at this point in the sport, preference. Ricky and Paul have very different form but are both amazing players. They putt differently but are both amazing. Paul dominated some years, Ricky some years. Maybe one day there will be a “correct” form, but since disc golf is a full body sport and everyone’s levers are different lengths, there is no biomechanically correct way
@CherryB0mb333
@CherryB0mb333 Год назад
@@Luke-cp9cb the only reason there is not a clearly defined perfect form is because of the “everybody is a special snowflake” toxic mentality that runs rampant in this sport. It’s irresponsible. Try telling a weightlifter there’s two different ways to do a lift. They’re gonna look at you like you’re stupid.

I understand the thought behind that perspective and that may be very true for you, but isn't for everyone. There are feel players and technical ones. My personal experience playing regular ⛳ golf and then becoming an instructor after college and now getting into disc golf has taught me that elite players can very much be both of those types but the insanely good ones are usually feel players. Knowing what type of a player someone is basically dictated how I would go about teaching that player. I also didn't teach the stock golf swing as that biomechanically correct way is going to slightly differ, require different starts and finishes to get to that impact(golf) or release (disc golf) that is correct. It is art and science imo.
