I am also an Asian child and it's so relatable.. Sometimes I feel frustrated from this but I still feel that this is better. Our parents teach us to respect our elders and value everything we have. They will get nothing by scolding us, but still they do because they want us to be a better person. And it's not that they always scold us, they love us more than they scold us. But yes, one thing Asian parents should give us is a little privacy, but only a little. They don't give us privacy because they want to guide us and teach us what is wrong and what is right.

From my perspective they taught right from wrong because if they would have just said don't do it again I doubt I would have listened. To some people who don't and probably never will live this way it seems wrong but it's very normal in European households, at least from my perspective. I also don't mean to offend anyone just wanted to chime in.

I'm not Asian, but when I was younger my dad used to be a little strict. The only difference between me and the people in the comments is that when I was seven, I had enough and told my dad I hated him. Every night after we brushed our teeth, we would give our parents hugs and kisses before going to bed. But the next night, he said no because you hug people you love, not hate. I genuinely felt bad and cried myself to sleep that night. The next night after we brushed our teeth I broke out in tears and said I didn't really hate him. He was very nice about it and understood I was just angry. I asked if I could start hugging him again every night and he said yes. I know this sounds dramatic, but if you’re in prison, you would appreciate things like good meals and positive social interaction that normal people wouldn’t have to and shouldn’t have to be overjoyed at receiving. If your situation is so bad that you appreciate any morsel of affection given to you, then it’s not something that should be praised. Also, respecting someone because you fear then isn’t respect, and genuinely respecting somebody who treats you horribly is pretty toxic. @@kiera6326 true though. At school it's considered disrespectful to not to bow to your teachers when you see them in the hall way or walk into the classroom. Notice in Korea, japan, and china (idk if you listening to kpop jpop or cpop), when idols are done performing they always bow 90 degree. Also you are suppose to address your elders differently from how you would address your friends. For example There's actually two words for "you" in Chinese. One for when you are talking to your friends, one for when you are talking to your elders. IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE IF YOU CALL ANYONE OLDER THAN YOU (BY SIX YEARS OR MORE) THEIR NAME!!! YOU HAVE TO ADDRESS THEM IN A REALLY RESPECTFUL WAY.

@@yudu9058 That sounds like overkill lol. Yeah, I noticed the thing with the you pronoun. It’s actually the same in some other European languages (although the formal version has died out some to mean more of when describing a plural). I think it’s so debilitating to enforce a hierarchy to that level, because it prevents anyone from ever being questioned and belittles whatever authority or opinion the younger people have.
@thederpy165

@@kiera6326 ehh, its not really overkill. Its pretty normal to respect your elders.
@myouniverse0613
@myouniverse0613 2 года назад
@@kiera6326 No not really, because respecting the elders is a cultural trait we inherit and are taught since childhood. When we grow up and see how disrespectful children are these days towards their parents, we appreciate the things we were taught at a young age even more. Throwing a tantrum is not tolerated, so as children we learn early on that the world does not revolve around us and we can't expect other people to please us all the time.

As someone with Asian parents, I will never ever find it ok when my family abuses me and is toxic to me! I would disown them and not the other way around! You don’t have to bare with that shit! My friend literally cried on the phone talking to me because her mother was insanely toxic and insulted the shit out of her! I wouldn’t be proud to have asian parents and NEVER normalize toxic behavior and abuse, asian or not it‘s never ok You shouldn’t do that to yourself! Respect should be mutual.
