I never had a babysitter growing up. I only found out people get paid to do it from tv. Close the door, don't open it for anyone and make sure your siblings didn't trash the house or die. Looking back on it, I'm thankful nothing bad ever happened (my little sister was a fire starter too). Wasn't a good idea leaving an nine year old in charge of a three year old and a baby. Wtf was my mother thinking?

I never had a babysitter growing up too. Even when i was home alone when i was 10-11 (They gave me lots of instruction on what to do and what to not do though). And if they needed someone to lookout for me, my relative is just across the street so they can just watch me from time to time. (Though this happens rarely). I enjoyed my time alone but sometimes it was scary since this house was infamous for a haunted one lol. But i wouldn't imagine leaving a 9 year old in charge of their siblings, and what's more a 3 year old and a baby? Did you have anyone with you when your mother left you in charge of your siblings? Like that's very irresponsible if she did left a 9 year old baby to take care of a 3 year old child and a baby home alone...

I stopped having a babysitter when I was about 5 or 6. That’s when my parents started leaving me with my older brothers. Which meant one wanted nothing to do with me and didn’t care if I died. The other snuck friends and girls into the house and played video games and made out, or he would leave the house entirely. Which meant I just did whatever I wanted. Went to a friends house, played in my room, watched movies. I was energetic but not a bad kid and I knew better than to do stupid shit. The only potentially stupid thing I did was go swimming in our above ground pool in the summer by myself, which wasn’t that bad because it was only 4ft deep which was about lower chest high on me so I wasn’t worried about drowning. Edit: let me clearing a few things: 1. I lived behind the fire station, literally the only house, so if I needed rescuing didn’t have to look very far. 2. Me swimming alone was probably safer than if my brothers had supervised me. My oldest brother took advantage of the situation once and literally tried to drown me. The only reason I’m alive today is because my parents came home just in time. No, he did not get into trouble, he claimed he was “just dunking” me and 20 years later mom still stands by what he said. When the 14 year old is holding the 6 year old under water thrashing and trying to get free and he finally lets her up and she’s throwing herself over the side the side of the pool vomiting pool water and crying, that’s not “just dunking”. Y’know where my other brother was? 20 ft away in his room playing his PlayStation. I felt much safer without them and sometimes that’s all you need. 3. Yes, I do know that many of the things I did as a kid were stupid and dangerous and would be unheard of today, but this was 20 years ago and I’ve never really cared about my personal safety. If I die I die, oh well, that’s my fault. 4. I lived in a small town where nobody questioned small children running around the streets. Hell we used to ride our bikes in the rock and gravel yard, the owner made mounds of gravel for us to use and ramps since we didn’t have a skate park. Kids walking around at night wasn’t unusual either. Wandering around is actually how I met my life long best friend when I was 4. I had just moved there and wandered away while my parents were unloading the moving van. It was my first big move and I wanted to make some friends so I talked to every kid I came across, but none of them wanted to play with me. Eventually I gave up and started crying and headed to my (then) new home. I was going to walk right passed her but she stopped me, asked what was wrong and said she’d be my friend. 22 years later we still are. Sometimes you gotta be a stupid kid

@0Jenna7
@0Jenna7 2 года назад
And if you slipped and hit your head? People drown in tubs you know. Or if you got scared and panicked? I've seen it with experienced swimmers. I'm not accusing you of being stupid or reckless or anything like that. You were placed in a position that you should never have been in and did what young kids do. I hope you understand exactly how scary that sounds to me as an adult. Going swimming as a 6-8 y/o to me doesn't sound potentially stupid. It sends ice up my gut into my throat. Leaving a +6 y/o with access to a pool would be entirely out of the question. I'm not telling you this in order to make you feel guilty about what you did. But in the hopes you might start thinking a little bit more about it. Because it still sounds like you don't know why that was dangerous. Because there are adults every year who kill their children from negligence because they haven't thought about it.

@@0Jenna7 And this is why the current generation is so cowardly and weak. We have survival instincts even as children, in case you have forgotten. In Poland, when parents have to go out, they leave their children to their grandparents. If they can, the grandparents agree. Babysitters are usually expensive. According to the law, children in Poland can stay home alone when they turn 7 years old. And they can walk on the street by themselves when they are over 7.

In Sweden we don't have any laws at all for when kids can go out or stay at home by themselves. I had my own key to the house when I was 10 yo. Maybe I was even younger, I don't remember, but at 10 I definitely had it, because my mother started working again after parental leave for my brother by then. But on the other hand the social service can always intervene if they suspect that something is wrong. Back in the 1970s I even remember our neighbour's 8 yo daughter guarding his rifle when we were outside and he had some other business to do. That would *not* be accepted today, though, since it's not even legal to let another adult take care of your firearm anymore, except when you let them use it under your supervision.

Well, what do you mean by “talking back.” Do you mean being rude, or just questioning something, or having a response that doesn’t agree with you? My parents were poor and work long hours to put food on the table and a roof over my head. I never had a babysitter growing up and l was expected to wash the dishes and clean my room. I have nothing but love and respect for my elderly parents who taught me not to ever open the front door of my apartment when l was in elementary school and to stay inside the apartment until they got back from work. I would walk home from school do my chores and homework and when my parents returned from work l was happy to see them. This comedy skit is funny 😂 and l can relate to it. Today l am an adult who was lucky enough to attend college and has a passion for learning and reading. My parents are proud that they have an aerospace engineer as a child.

I meant she change her method of dealing with us as we get older we know that's a lie and she know we know she love us. So she change her way to deal with us, blow us with a precise heart blow. 😆😆😆 anyway we love her for that. 😄😄😄😊😊

@@christinemerritt974 may I ask why he was being lazy? Honestly, I'm experiencing something like wanting to not do anything since I feel like everything around me is overwhelming, though I was really active before (as a child, a student and as someone who has a lot of hobbies.) Try to ask him what he's feeling or something, since it's scary to open up to someone who constantly give you blatant remarks.
