The McLaren is gorgeous, but I'd take the 911...All-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, more useful as a daily driver, less attention grabbing, and it has analogue gauges!
911 will also spend a lot less time at the mechanic. It would be crazy to by a Mclaren without a warranty considering how bad they are in terms of reliability.
@@ibrahimb6226 Spoken from a non-owner. I had zero issues in 14k miles, still running with no issues with new owners. Porsche engines let go, McLaren engines don't.
I've just taken the plunge! Bought a 570GT! Not picked it up yet but so much car for the price I've paid! Traded in my Nissan GTR which I loved but a Mclaren is a bucket list car! Fingers crossed no regrets!
This would be a hard choice for me. I've driven a McLaren 570S and a 992 Turbo S. The more exciting and better looking car is the McLaren for sure. If i wasn't worried about reliability id go with McLaren. Its also been proven in a rolling start race the McLaren has a much stronger pull on top end. Love them both
Great video. Turbo S would be my preference - spend a few grand on performance upgrades and you’ve got a seriously quick and capable machine. 991.1 GT3 also worth a look at similar money, but they don’t deliver the outright performance of the Turbo S.
@@scd Welcome to the Dark Side... bigger turbos, higher displacing motors, alternative fuels, and standalone EMS to mix direct with port injectors for said alternative fuels. The nice GT-R folks pioneered and normalized a lot of this stuff (well, 12 injector setups - those do not have DFI) over the last decade and a half, and you'll find it appearing in all of the higher-end setups (with McLaren actually being somewhat of an exception as their motors & drivelines require serious work to run as megacars).
@@scd Lol mclaren depreciate way faster than porsche so....... There's no way i woild spend my money on a mclaren mu brother wanted to buy 720s but too scared for the depreciation
You can put $20k or so into that 911 and turn it into a 1000hp+ monster without opening the motor, just bolt-ons + tune. Don't believe me? There's a 991.1 car I know of that set a 8.90@157mph 1/4 mile with 145k miles on the drivetrain, engine never opened. Full weight, with drag radials. Same car hit about 190mph in the 1/2 mile. Did I mention that it has over 145k miles on it?
Its a bit more than that, and probably not quite 1k awhp without popping the motor (definitely manifolds and such by then). Dealing with that much boost lag (VG turbos are gone by this point) tends to require a bit more displacement both in terms of delivering NA torque and helping the turbos spool-up; so a factory 3.8 with only 20k of mods running 1k hp is probably not very safe.
@@turboslipnot Safer at 860whp for sure, but it's not a 20K build ... needs exhaust, plenum, piping, intercoolers, and a very expensive transmission clutch upgrade to hold that level of power. I personally wouldn't do it on a stock motor but that's not the point: it's been done.
I drove both back to back at Milbrook. No competition on a dry road. The 911 4WD makes you feel safer in wet and slippery conditions, but if it were so I would be driving below 90% anyway. McLaren all the way, esp at these secondhand prices. Don't diss until you try one.
This was my decision very recently and went with the GT and managed to get a deal under 90k, yes a few more miles but relatively speaking it’s a bargain.
Out of curiosity how you getting on? I’m in the middle of either r8, 911 turbo s or 570s the McLaren has my heart but the reliability and build quality is a scary thought? Any issues with yours?
Had both so from experience you’re right on about the tts but I do much prefer my 570. Looks Feel Handling and traction amazing just not as predictable as 911 Depreciation is a big factor though mostly in 570
Good premise of a video! I have no idea which I'd choose without driving them but my assumption is the 911 fits the tallest driver so it may be the default choice
A 997.2 GT3 I think, maybe an E46 CSL, a 550 Maranello, an early R8 V8 manual, a Cayman R or a later GT4? Ok...I don’t know😂! If I had to use it every day, the Turbo S...if not the McLaren is slightly more special and a challenge out of the two...that said, both are easy to drive in the way modern cars are.
I own a Mclaren 570GT.....i cant see anyone choosing a 911 over a Mclaren. The 911 looks like ...every other run of the mill 911. A mclaren is a special car, drives and sounds like one, goes like stink and definitely turns more heads. No brainer for me
The McLaren is great but depreciation, reliability costs are a rabbit hole imo. i think an r8 v10 plus is definately in the mix. 991 gt3? Just wish the 991.2 gt3's werent holding their value so well (comparitively) because that's my goal
No brainer - boring sports car v amazing SUPERcar. McLaren for the drive, exclusivity and special experience, but Porsche if financial safety really matters. Mclaren with your heart, Porsche with your head
I owned 7 Porsches in my lifetime - also a Ferrari 458 went back to Porsche 911 now I consider to test drive a McLaren 470 can somebody tell me the difference between the S model and the GT ? Thanks 🙏 love the comments!
Coincidentally looking at a McLaren 570GT at the moment to buy and under 100k, seen a few with less than 5k on the clock. The big question is will these still depreciate at the rate they have over the first couple of years? Porsche for reliability McLaren for looks.
Surely they can’t dip much lower than £100k? At Matt says they’re a serious supercar bargain at the moment with such a high volume of 570’s on the market however this won’t last. Prices will stabilise
You know what? I think that one of the worst thing when owning a car is having that feeling that you can have issues, lefted stranded, or have to spend time bringing it to a dealer to be fixed...so owning a Mclaren would definitely have that feeling hence why I would NEVER consider one (nor I like the design but it's down to personal preferences). With Porsche you just know what you buy..and it's a great buy.
@@scd Also been looking at Honda NSX...with so few on the market you would think they would hold their value but they're falling through the roof - now sub 90k for a 2/3 year old car with no mileage!...must be the badge effect, sad really as they look pretty nice and have what the McLaren's by and large suffer from - reliability. At this rate a Honda NSX could be picked up for 80k by the spring if not less (seen a 2017 model depreciate by 10k in 3 months).
100% the McLaren 570GT. Lightweight carbon fibre mid-engined low slung Supercar with all the McLaren tech & trickery. When u see one in the flesh, its utterly fantastic to behold & VERY special. Oh yeah, reliable too. And, keeping the annual McLaren warranty going, gives all the peace of mind u'll ever need. Sooooo sorry Porsche. NM
Turbo s all day everyday you wouldn't regret it. Plus a couple of £££ spent at ESMotor you can have 850HP built by the best Porsche guys in the world. That's the way i would go.
the porsche is hands down the best car, well built, useable power and great resell value...but...i would take the mc laren for looks and excitement value
911 is an everyday car. 570 is a proper carbon tub, super fast, light , connected, fun super car. 911 better on daily, reliability, cost but 570 wins everywhere else.
Let’s face it, if you are the kind of person who goes to gym a lot and is attracted to ladies based on the darkness of their fake tan then you will probably choose the McLaren and wing it because at this price point , you probably won’t pay the extra £3.5 to £5k a year for the warranty and at least that again for servicing, in which case good luck. However, if you are the kinda person who loves cars and doesn’t want to be continually hounded by people with camera phones and police officers then you will take the Porsche and you can sit back and enjoy your brilliant car worry free!
Actually considered buying a 570S almost the same as this one 8 months ago and they were trading around £120k. Their depreciation will have to bottom out soon, because they can’t keep going to say £60k... maybe wait until they hit £80-£85k and pull the trigger. I know the S and GT aren’t the same but close enough. Side note: 720S now trading at £150k 👀
The C8 Corvette might have both these cars beat. Its looking like its more refined than either of these cars and cost less. It also comes in RHD, At 47,000 GBP then you can forget both of these cars.
It does not compare to them in straight line performances or track performances. It is on the level of a 991.2 Carrera GTS/992 Carrera S. But it's not in the Turbo S league. It's still a better bargain than both the Turbo S and the Mclaren 570gt though
@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 I'll watch it and I know that the value per money is off the charts!!! I am just saying that based on the tests that have been made (Motortrend, Road and Track and Car and Driver) the car seems to be in the league of the 992 Carrera S/991.2 Carrera GTS, not in the league of Porsche 991.2 Turbo S or Mclaren 570 GT. On a track it could be a relatively close match, but on a straight line there is too much power gap (after the 0-60 the Turbo S and the Mclaren would win, no doubt)
Mclaren looks good and Is fast but it’s a total piece of junk otherwise . The Porsche represents the finest in German engineering and the Mclaren the worst in automotive quality, craftsmanship, reliability, customer care and depreciation..
i would have to go for an Audi r8 v10 rws, coz as much as i love mclaren's, i know how unreliable they can be so i would rather get the r8 and have a boisterous rwd v10 super sports car
911 is almost too common. I'd feel so shortchanged spending c100k on it, even though its very capable. If you're after everyday savage performance then you cannot beat a GTR and you'd be WAY under 100k
Audi drop top is the way to go. Reliability naturally aspirated V10 with exotic looks and great sound. Porsche is good but boring and McLaren is just a computer on wheels.
@Don DoDat nah. The Porsche would probably win around some tracks. But 9/10 the McLaren would win. Especially in a straight line. Plus alot more character to the McLaren. The turbo s is quick buy lifeless
@Don DoDat yeah I get that. They definitely aren't know to be reliable. But if I was buying one it wouldn't be my only car. It would be a weekend car. Porsche would be a great daily for sure. But not much character to it
911 is ugly. 570 rear is ugly. However overall the McLaren looks more supercar. 911 is a M4/C63/RS level looking car. It has supercar performance but ordinary saloon looks.
