So you have a Yaqi TFC adjustable razor and want to disassemble it for cleaning, lubrication, etc. This video shows you how to tear it down and put it back together.

Finally one video about razors which reviews the actual tool in dept, in close up, rather than showing the guy shaving his face for 20 minutes.

Great video, I have the silver one. Same issue with the slightly wobbly spring, i have a few other adjustables (the parker variant and a merkur futur clone) and as far as i can see they all seem to have this issue. Its the spring in the centre, its always going to be prone to leaving the sides with a bit of play. I find adjustables in general much more agressive than fixed level razors. By far and away my favourite of the adjustables (even though its technically not an adjustable) is the rockwell 6s and this is probably because it doesnt have the spring issue. Although after watching this im going to use the yaqi final cut again. BTW, have you tried colouring in the numbers with some black nail varnish, Friendship Shaving has a video showing how to do it (he uses paint), but some commenter suggested using a few coats of black nail varnish and wiping off the excess with some newspaper dampened with nail varnish remover, it worked a treat for me. May you always have close shaves ! (But not too close)

Thanks David! Yup, I see this issue on my other inexpensive adjustable. Maybe you have that same one too... the Futur clone? Mine came from QShave, but the same basic razor's available under half a dozen different names. I think Van Der Hagen is even selling it now. Anyway, mine has the central spring issue as well as a little bit of slop in the top cap. I only tried using it a couple times and it was too much hassle. I don't think I've ever shown it on the channel. The only adjustable I have with none of these issues is my 1969 Gillette Super Adjustable. It has no head-related issues at all. It's only problem is that the twist-to-open knob drops a little when you loosen it. Otherwise, it's in great working condition and shaves wonderfully. It's not continuously adjustable, but I don't really mind. Positions 1 through 4 are perfect for me. I'll use 5 on occasion. I haven't tried 6 through 9, but I hear it can get really aggressive. I haven't coloured in the numbers yet, but I have seen Friendship Shaving's video. I like the nail varnish idea though... it sounds way simpler. I'm going to try that for both the Yaqi and the Gillette. Thanks for watching and commenting, and enjoy your shaves!

Same here. Wish Gillette would start making their adjustables again. They're still "the best a man can get" far as I'm concerned!

I’m still kind of resistant to spending a whole lot on razors. I mean, I visit the Tatara website sometimes just to look at the Muramasa adjustable… but that thing is like $400 Canadian. 😬 Maybe one day when the big RU-vid bucks are rolling in and I’ve got my plot of forest on a prime bass/pike/Muskie lake right next to a huge tract of Crown Land! 🙏🤣

I think I somehow broke my Yaqi and landed here. I’ll try fixing it again tomorrow but here’s my issue. The bottom part of the razor handle doesn’t unscrew at all. It kept toughening up over weeks and now it doesn’t open, it’s like fully stuck. Only the top pieces unscrew and come totally apart. Not sure if the razor is still fixable or it’s gone totally kaput.

It happened to me also. That's why I saw this video. Disassemble the razor as much as you can and use some lubricant on the bottom (e.g., WD-40). I was able to unscrew the bottom this way. Cheers.

@@barrigas2011 no luck. Mine seems fused shut. I’ve tried using wrenches, pliers and what not. I reported this to Yaqi with a video and they sent me a new razor as a replacement. Totally free of charge!

Hi, great video, finally i understand how to assembly correctly. How did you knew the base cap was in the wrong direction (min 4:00)??
@LateGroomer
@LateGroomer 2 года назад
Hi readi, I knew only because I very carefully kept every part in proper orientation while setting them down. 😁 I actually got it wrong during my first recording attempt.

Hi, do make a similar disassembly video for Parker Variant and Pearl Flexi as well. Thanks

Excellent breakdown video, how do you know what the proper orientation of the base plate is? Are there any markings? Or is it trail and error? Thanks
@LateGroomer
@LateGroomer Год назад
Hi RK, the bottom piece has "DLC-YAQI" at one end. The upper piece doesn't seem to be marked, but I just looked at it closely and it seems that the thread (on the central tube) ends on that side too. Maybe that's the best way to tell? Otherwise, yeah, trial and error!

Are extra springs available?
@LateGroomer
@LateGroomer 2 года назад
Hey Finn, it didn’t come with extra springs and I don’t recall seeing any on the Yaqi store. I suspect they would have used a commodity part though. (Could be totally wrong about that, of course.)
