I am sharing in a better quality due to recent events.
Věra Čáslavská support of the Czechoslovak democratization movement and her opposition to the 1968 Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia. At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, she took this protest to the world stage by quietly looking down and away while the Soviet national anthem was played during the medal ceremonies for the balance beam and floor exercise event finals. While Čáslavská's actions were applauded by her compatriots, they resulted in her becoming a persona non grata in the new regime. She was forced into retirement and for many years was denied the right to travel, work and attend sporting events.

She was hiding in the woods before the Olympics, practicing on trees. Preparing for the Olympics in a forest.

You are so right. They have an odd obsession with occupying and destroying nations.

Are you the gymnast Inha Shkarupa? If so, I greatly admired your gymnastics back when you competed. Your amazing contributions to the sport are fondly remembered by many.

Very unfair to subject her to stand next to her invader as a result of cheating.

I was just a kid when I saw the '68 Olympics on TV but when she turned her head like she did on the podium she became a heroine to me. That took guts.

To me the obvious difference between then and now is that she’s a grown assed woman of 26, whereas now is pre-teens who get the medals

actually, the average age of competing elite-level gymnasts now is higher than ever since 1964. at the Tokyo Olympics, it was 21 years, 11 months- you might be confusing "now" for the 1976-2000 eras, where teenagers dominated the sport. and the best gymnast in the world rn is 26 years old

Simone Biles, Rebeca Andrade, Viktoria Listunova, Angelina Melnikova, Jade Barbosa, Melanie de Jesus, Kaylia Nemour, Shilese Jones, ALL PRE-TEENS 😂

@@marwahussein666 That's my point. Looking at pictures and moving images from the Olden Days, it seems Really Weird that female Olympic gymnasts are (just about) old enough to be the mums of the pre-teenage girls who win today's competitions. The Marg Simpson/librarian hair do is just a bonus
@marwahussein666
@marwahussein666 9 месяцев назад
@@Mute_Nostril_Agony Do you understand that I am satirizing your comment? The current minimum age for senior competition is 16, pre-teen is 10-14 INCOMPLETE! Not even at the time when 14 was an adult level, pre-teens competed (unless they falsified their age)
