You know, in spite the fact that this is 2 years old now, and while none of it changes the fact that Equius exists to be absorbed into Lil Cal and become a part of Lord English, it's kinda cool to think that there might exist a timeline somewhere where Equius didn't choke but instead stood up to Gamzee to protect his friends and maybe even won? I mean it'd be doomed but sometimes those are the coolest timelines to see.

You are saying very interesting things, but i think your assumptions are a little wrong. First, Heart is not directly linked to the narrative. All aspects are linked to equally. Both Dirk and Calliope control the narrative, they just do it in different ways. Calliope changes the things around the people, the setting (Space), while Dirk controls what people feel through their inner monologue, "overrides the super-ego" (Heart). Second, both Heart and Mind are equally inner and outer, maybe even Heart being more inner. The difference is the basic self vs the changing\conscious self. Heart is what i want, Mind is how i try to get this. Heart is what i feel, Mind is what I do with these feelings. Heart is who i already am, Mind is who i choose to be. Heart is the things that is the same to all versions of one person, Mind is the experiences, choices and circumstances that make them different.

I've always assumed that "Heart" meant the core of somebody and "Mind" simply meant their conscious choices. How can "Heart" be someone's core if it's outside their person? Those are two mutually exclusive ideas.

Anxious Selkie the discrepancies would come from their classes, not their aspect. Equius is an Heir, which means that he is quite literally void itself (use his empty robots, robotic limbs, and his literal irrelevance in the story as an example of that,) while Roxy is a Rogue, a glorified thief for others. Think of Rogues as the Robin Hood’s of their aspect. Roxy without knowing it can steal her irrelevance and others actions overshadowing her’s through being a Rogue (look at her actions before Game Over, her recreation of the Matriorb, and her killing HIC as examples.)

Although Hope is also connected to possibilities, far more than Void or Mind.

Not really. Or at least, it is, but not for this reason. This video by OD is just a speculation, a possible way to look at the aspects, not an objective statement of "this is how things are!". That's really interesting actually, that the Heart and Void players are all drawn to each other so strongly. To me that makes me think of the idea of a "hole in your heart/soul" that can be filled, yet with nepeta she's fulfilling a role for Equius mainly while Roxy is fulfilling a role for Dirk mainly, like Nepeta and Roxy both bring their counterparts up

Not only are they Void/Heart duos, in both duos the girl is associated with cats and the boy with horses, although the aspects are swapped.

Comparing Rose and Terezi is tricky, though, since both are Seers. So we don't know if their similiraties are because of this aspect symmetry or because of they being the same class.

@@mateusmundstock8225 Their similarities are because they are seers, their differences are because of the aspects. We can't conclude from this how much the aspects are different, but we will know HOW they are different.

I like both of these pairs so much so I apologize, but now it's time for me to vent. Oh god I have so many feelings about these guys. Both Dirk/Roxy and Equius/Nepeta are pairs where the guy is broody, self-loathing, overly serious and sad, meanwhile the girl is perky, loves all their friends, fun to be around and generally happy, even if they have their own problems. Dirk and Equius are both plagued by their own aspect. In Equius' case it's irrelevancy. If he would've survived the meteor and potentially went godtier even, or done anything heroic before the point in time he's supposed to, it would've doomed the timeline because he's honestly very skilled and it would've affected events he's not supposed to. In Dirk's case it's ego. He's aware that he's manipulative and no-fun (as a Prince of Heart (soul) he essentially destroys 'personality', and is generally a handful to deal with, yet he can't be any other way. He said this himself. His desires had affected his relationships with the other alpha kids and almost doomed them too. On the flipside, both Nepeta and Roxy have classpect combinations that are basically made to combat these sad bastards. (Like they were made for each other. Like a red string of fate..) Equius' existence is permeated by the Void, which is a sort of barrier that makes it difficult for everyone else to see the good in him (his adherence to the hemospectrum, his musclebeast fetishism, being overly serious). Nepeta as the Rogue of Heart 'steals' (or rather draws out) personality (Heart) out of Equius. Because beyond this wall of Void lies someone who's actually nice, polite and willing to do silly things for fun. Nepeta mentions in Seek the Highblood that everyone has an important role to play, which in her case means pacifying Equius so he doesn't mess up the timeline. To see and draw out the good in something that is so obviously bad on the surface. That is Nepeta's role. (which is how Hussie planned Equius' arc, i.e. introduce a completely irredeemable character and make the readers love him by the end) Meanwhile Dirk is very controlling, trying to teach lessons to his friends that they don't need, playing oddly sinister games and manipulating their relationships so that he gets what he wants. He destroys their personalities (or Hearts) by trying to be in complete control. Which is even more apparent in the Epilogues. He's aware of these traits, but since he can't change them, he just ends up harboring a lot of self-hate and guilt. He really is a handful and almost too much to bear for anyone. Except Roxy. Roxy as a Rogue steals or draws out their aspect for the benefit of their friends. Hope (Jake), Life (Jane) and the combination of Heart (Dirk) with the Prince class makes all of her friends into players who have a LOT of raw power, to the point where it overwhelms them (for example Jake's Hopesplosion). Roxy acts as a sort of anti-power, someone who can dim these overwhelming forces of her friends, by being silly (and drunk), not taking everything so seriously and just being a distraction. Dirk has many complicated feelings about his friends, himself and just in general; it's like a rats nest of thoughts. Roxy dims these wild thoughts with tomfoolery. She also acts as a sort of beacon for Dirk, since he always has to look out for her (like when she wanders around as her dreamself), Dirk has something to keep himself busy with, away from his overcomplicated feelings. Protecting Roxy is simple and sweet and she really appreciates it. In addition to all this, both relationships are somewhat like human siblings. Neither of them are based on just sexual attraction and urges but rather genuinely wanting the best for another soul. Wanting the other person to succeed and be cherished. To be free of negative thoughts and to just simply enjoy themselves. To free themselves from their crippling cosmically unchangable personalities. And to just. Give a hug to a sad horse dude. Both these pairs love each other so much, beyond physicalities, beyond incomprehensible cosmic bullshit, beyond all their shortcomings. Just genuine pure love for another being in a world that's so messed up. That is 100% my shit, and I love them both so much for it. *Sighn* Okay. Venting done.

This means that there's actually a sequence of events where Vriska can win against Terezi when the chips are down. Of course, Terezi has a large advantage given that Vriska's power-set eliminates the randomness that defines the limits of Terezi's knowledge, but if Vriska starts using her abilities willy-nilly by making improbable events happen around her without forethought or further strategy, the sheer chaos of the unfolding circumstances could be enough to paralyze her opponent with new information and take the edge. Of course, that would require Vriska to start embracing her opposing alignment of Void (what with the randomness and all), so the odds would still be in Terezi's favor. Still, if her character had somehow progressed to a point where she would be okay with those kind of tactics, she could at least stand a chance.

Can relate. I noticed that they're in simmetrical points of the Aspect Wheel last video, which made me reconsider if I'm not mindbound, but after re-reading the Aspect descriptions yeah I'm definitely lightbound.

it's a little different than that, from what i can tell from the story. terezi's ability is, as described, being able to glean literal infinity and make the best choice based on the breadth of information processed. rose's ability is similar but different in one key point where instead of looking through infinite possibility, she already has a fixed goal in mind, and draws focused information on how best to achieve that goal terezi starts with a problem (vriska about to get everyone killed), and uses infinite possibility to find the best solution (e.g. she didn't actually want to kill vriska, that was just the best option) while rose starts with a solution (arriving at the alpha universe) and uses focused possibility to find exactly how best to achieve that specific goal

@@frmCast Not exactly. Terezi starts with a situation (vriska about to get everyone killed), takes the choices she already knows she can do (kill Vriska or not kill Vriska), and then uses her power to see what would happen if she made those choices. Or someone else's choices, that works to.

@@lordbuss the point i was focusing on is that terezi starts with a situation, which theoretically has infinite possibility for response (even though in the example the options are limited, it's not really much of an intuitive leap to say there are more options than what was presented), and uses her power to narrow down the options to the best one, while rose typically starts with a singular outcome and uses her power to draw the most fortunate line to that outcome. it is also worth noting that at the time terezi was not a fully-realised seer of mind, and would obviously not be able to perceive literal infinity. that's actually the whole point of her binary coin-flipping bit is that it helps her narrow infinite possibility down to a do or don't choice, much easier for a person to comprehend. her main frustration with the coin-flipping later in the story is that she starts to feel like there's more options than what she's giving herself, and is frustrated with how limiting/restrictive the coin flip actually is

And have a clear distinction of "this is the question, here are three different plausible answers (like the passivity\activity of Pages), and a link to another place, with the explanation why some other answers are not plausible (for example, Page being the counterpart of the Maid)".
