The setup instructions say to place the lighthouses high and aim them down, but you put them a little low and aimed them up. That might explain your tracking issues that nobody else seems to be having...

"Fits of unreliability" Pff. Maybe if you set up the base stations correctly and at the recommended height, you wouldn't have tracking problems.

The issues he talks about sounds like what happens when you place the motion trackers in a bad spot. I hadn't heard of any other reviewer mentioning that as a problem.

7.8 Too much reality.

If you put your light boxes in the recommended area (At least 6 feet up and pointing down) you wouldn't have your tracking issues... not at waist height!

you must've setup the lighthouses wrong... this is why you are having tracking issues. Nobody is having this, you can look on reddit, everything works perfectly

I would recommend setting up the sensors correctly before complaining about inconsistency.

they didnt even set up the tracking stations right and then say it has poor tracking, umm it had poor tracking bc you didnt set it up right.

tracking issues comes from your faulty setup. lighthouses should be mounted at ceiling or high at the wall so while they are working they should see each other. your body block the sight line between them in your setup so that causes the tracking problems. edit: by the way if you mount them at the ceiling there shouldn't be ceiling fan or chandelier between lighthouses either, and shooting movie projector at the headsets sensor while using it may not be the best idea.

I am assuming that you have not watched any other reviews on this product on RU-vid. No one has complained of the quality problems you have raised and made to sound like fundamental issues of the Vive hardware. I would guess that you did not follow the instructions correctly when you positioned the light house units. Why don't you read the instructions again, have another go and then, if the problem still happens let us know what the Vive support team said after you have talked to them.

"tracking issues" I have the vive. no tracking issues... if you have issues plug the two lighthouses together AND have them in appropriate spots/height.

You should place the lighthouses higher above the play area tilted downwards to help with tracking/obstruction.

Do you read instructions? Recommendation for lighthouse is at around 6 feet up or so, pointing down. you placed them at waist height, pointing up.

Looks good. I'd be interested to see what improvements can be made in the second generation of the Vive, it just seems a bit finicky to me.

Wait so it's not possible to just use it like an oculus rift? with out the motion controls? Is it not compatible with those games?

With "text clear enough to read" do you mean actual games like elite dangerous, or just the prechewed VR specific guff valve gives you with the headset? All text in games made for VR seems inflated and huge.

I'm kinda torn now because it was reviewed quite differently on Gamespot but one con in both reviews was lack of full games but I think I would still love lots of different experimental demos sorta like nintendoland for wiiu but even more demos and applications besides the first review for a vr game was Lucky's Tale and it did not review well in the categories I deem necessary.

Is it possible to control the size of the tracking space? Say if you just want a 6x6ft area instead of the entire 15x15 or whatever it is default. Just curious

I think what we're all forgetting here is that the mighty Google Cardboard is far superior to the vive, making this video moot.

I'm torn between the two, oculus seems more of a gaming device at the moment where it seems the vive is kind of more an experience and a mini game machine, although the both look awesome

I think for most people it'd be better to wait for a while until more full games are made for it and also maybe a wireless version with built on headphones. I would love to see games like Battlefield, Battlefront, UFC, and some other games I can't think of at the moment.

I buy version 4 of the VIVE. This looks still like a prototype to me.

Willing to re arrange furniture? Not to mention you would also have to sell the furniture, along with an arm and a leg... The vive itself is $850-$1000+, that's not even mentioning if you don't already have pretty powerful gaming pc you're going to have to shell out anywhere from from $500-$1000+. I mean it looks really cool but i don't think i would be willing to spend $1,350-$2,000+. I just personally don't think it's worth that much. Maybe since VR gaming is still a pretty new thing that the price to game in full VR will lower in years to come...

Looks amazing just the start of VR done the right way. This is only the start hopefully in 3 years or so the price will be lower and no cables.

Oculus rift may have a slightly better headset, but the vive gives you full immersion and that's what you want in VR! the set up is no big deal for the VR experience the vive gives you..

I'll buy one as soon as they make a game worth buying. I'd like to play Skyrim on it or something, you could wave your hands some way to cast a spell or something

Can't wait till this tech gets more advanced and some big companies will throw some big money into games for this. Imagen a game like Black & White in VR, that would be amazingly fun! :D

I don't understand why people are saying VR will end up like Kinect and other motion controls. It definitely has A LOT more potential and isn't just a "gimmick". At least with VR, it uses peripherals that make sense as it simulates natural body movement and gives feedback as well. Whereas with Kinect, you had to pretend to make contact with what happens on the screen. If a peripheral can immerse you in a world, I don't think that's a gimmick at all.

I think price should be one of the cons. Not that I'm saying that means it's bad cuz it cost too much, just that price should be taken into account when comparing these vr headsets

I tried HTC vive yesterday and I tried the oculus rift and... the vive is better

VR will be limited by space. With us Brits space is at a premium unless you're loaded most bedrooms are gonna be too small here. Hopefully they'll find a way round it but until then it will be the preserve of the rich.

So the way I see it is the psvr is for casual players wanting to get into VR, the oculus is for the ones who don't want to fully commit to VR, but still provides a great experience, and the Vive is for the tech junkies with enough money and time to commit.

I see vive getting major lawsuits as soon as someone dies from tripping over a cable cord and falling down a flight of steps. It is so easy to get into a dangerous situation when standing. Which is the oculus ppl didn't do it.

I want it. But cause of pricing and price exchange it costs about $3360.
