I recently bought a 2022 #Tesla Model Y and coming from an ICE car, I gotten used to looking at the driver instrument cluster right in front of the steering wheel to get basic info such as current speed and speed limit. Since the Tesla Model 3/Y has this information on its main display, I feel I am taking my eyes off the road a split second longer than I should. Hence, I searched around and found these two mini driver instrument clusters (aka #HUD) that slots in the aircon vent right in front if the steering wheel.
This video is my attempt to compare these two products side by side to help people make a more informed an decision when choosing one over the other.

✅ COMPARISON OF THE TWO MINI INSTRUMENT CLUSTER:
TOMAKER (Pros)
- Better display visibility day/night
- Narrower design (because less info on display) which means less airflow being blocked
- More accurate speed read-out than YONZEE
- Slim and can fit aircon vent gap compared to YONZEE
- Can display Speed OR Battery state of charge
- Unaffected by the latest Tesla Software 2022.28.2
TOMAKER (Cons)
- The wire coming out of the instrument cluster either comes out to the Left or Right. No option to make it come out to the back which means you will see the wire after the install
YONZEE (Pros)
- More information available than TOMAKER (All gears, turn indicator, Headlights, Brake hold, Door Open)
- Wire coming out of the instrument cluster fully hidden after install
YONZEE (Cons)
- Too thick - hard to fit in the aircon vent
- Too wide - it blocks more airflow coming out of the aircon vent
- Display either too bright at night or too dim during daylight. It seems they’ve mixed up the ambient light settings the other way around
- High-beam and Turn indicators are broken with Tesla Software 2022.28.2

Turn signals no longer display after Tesla update 2022.28.1, i am afraid the future update could brick it.
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Oh no that is not good 😢. The YONZEE is definitely broken but the unit from TOMAKER has what seems to be a mini-USB port on the inside so there might be a way for it to be flashed with an updated firmware if it breaks by a Tesla update. I can reach out to the seller if they are aware of this issue with the Tesla firmware and if they have a patch for it.

@Snow Rabbit Yeah, I went from 2022.24.8 to 2022.28.2 and I can confirm the turn signal on the TOMAKER is still working but the YONZEE didn’t handle the new Tesla software 2022.28.2 very well 🥲

Great comparison. The problem is Tesla SW updates impact functionality. I had another (similar) display and the seat belt indicator stayed on permanently after a SW update and a few updates later it thought high beams were always on. Eventually I trashed it as it more misleading than helpful.
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Thanks Mike. I think it boils down to the quality of the firmware on each of those products and how many indicators are available. I guess the less the better. But so far, the unit from Tomaker isn’t affected by the latest Tesla software update. I hope it stays this way with future updates 🤞

The automaker is the one to have. Typical example of “less is more”. I like the dynamic showing of information. SOC% and gear indicator at stand still and speed and turn signal when on the go. Great thinking.

@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Hi A K I agree with your assessment. However, I wouldn’t ignore Yonzee just yet especially after the release of their “minimalist” series - roughly 10% smaller in dimension than (AU)TOMAKER but the numbers are larger at half the price! I’ve now replaced my (AU)TOMAKER with this new YONZEE. Affiliate Product Link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dkh4iwn

I will only replace my current one when either come up with a mini LCD/OLED display, rather than this simple digital display. For now the Automaker is nicely minimalist only showing this I need whilst driving.

Great video mate! Just got my MYLR two days ago and yesterday I installed the Yonzee, it does not display the turn indicators of course which is disappointing (mainly because I didn't know the software update would cause this issue) 🙄
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Hi murri1035, I didn’t know they are still selling the Yonzee 1.0. I thought they stop selling this and the only Yonzee you can buy is the Yonzee 2.0 Minimalist series. If you just purchase this recently, you can ask the seller to replace it with the newer version. Where did you buy your Yonzee from?

@@AutosNGizmos Hi, just got the Tomaker product, installed while removing the Yonzee one, and the Tomaker works great. I actually like it better than the Yonzee for the reasons you state. It's much smaller and I like more of a simple display. Don't need too much info just speed and turn signals really. Thanks again for doing your comparison video, it helped me purchase the Tomaker item. I understand your update states that Yonzee is selling a replacement product for much less, however I would not want to spend again for something that might again hiccup in the future. They lost my trust.
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
@@EVRevolution Yeah I also feel the TOMAKER is a better product all together - given they weren’t impacted by the software update. I ended up getting the “refreshed” YONZEE only because I only had to pay $6 to get it given I previously paid for the “broken” version. So I thought, why not. Waiting for the package to arrive.

Hi Doop, I uploaded a RU-vid short video a few days ago that demonstrated this. Based on my testing, Tesla software update 2022.28.2 definitely broke the Yonzee while the Tomaker is ok. Check out that video in this link 👉ru-vid.com4vpwrZJIQWw

Actually there is a newer product called the V2. It doesnt sit inside the vent but just in front of it and also has the biggest display and most number of indicators. @AutosNGizmos Год назад
Hi 3Tails, yeah sorry about that. This video is not meant to be a “How to Install” video, just a comparison between two products. There is a way to keep the wire tidy by either (a) pushing excess wire to the back of the vent or (b) removing the dashboard and taping it inside. I will do (b) and post a video. Hopefully by the time you get the product, the install video is already live 😊

Not a fair comparison. You didn't even remove the screen protector of the square unit
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Hi Phoenix, at around timecode 13:03 you will see me remove both screen protectors. But I must admit, it was unfortunate the Yonzee (square unit) was under more direct sunlight and I did not immediately notice that while filming. But overall, the smaller unit really has better daytime/nighttime visibility based on my view. Also please note I am not being paid by any of the manufacturer/seller of any of the products I review in my channel so my comments are all unbiased.
@FITBOYGAMING
@FITBOYGAMING Год назад
A comparison video and u don’t compare the number 1 thing people ask. The price? You drive at night with them beside each other with is a direct comparison but during the day you move them. Clearly showing showing favoritism. The smaller one clearly has a bug in the code that shuts off the D and back on. Would assume it’s cheaper in price as they didn’t spend the money for better coding development when the other unit displayed the D the whole time just like the factory unit.
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Год назад
Hi s4garo thanks for your feedback. Good point about the price. When I was comparing them it didn’t occur to me that I need to show the price of each because they are both around $80 so not a differentiating factor. But fair point because people watching the video don’t know the price of each to begin with. With regards to the “D” indicator, at 18:31 you will see I explained it’s actually part of the programming. iIt hides as you accelerate past 20kph and shows up when you decelerate below 10 kph helping you focus on the speed without getting distracted from other indicators. When I was filming with it during the day and the sun was in full force, it was hard to tell right then and there the Yonzee was positioned badly. But in the end as I explained in the video, I removed the Yonzee because there is no way I would slot that in the vent for a long period of time because it could potentially damage the plastic on the dash given the Yonzee was made of metal. And lastly, I bought both products using my own money and if there is bias towards one product, that’s purely based on my personal judgement. Note that shortly after filming this video, one of the Tesla software updates broke this Yonzee and as a result, it was discontinued and replaced with the Yonzee 2.0 minimalist series which I ended up using for several months. A few months later, I found another new product to replace it. This product niche is very fluid at the moment it’s crazy! Cheers!
