Fwiw I'm super glad you aren't a news channel but that said major B&R reactions are super helpful.

I feel like losing the this right before MH3 might end up being comparable to Twin getting banned right before the Eldrazi winter. As a lands player, I'm a little happier that there are less blood mooners. I like the content format too. Getting an in depth video on bans and speculating the future opens a lot of topics that others may not have thought about before.

Should mind goblin ever have been legal? No Is banning it going to cause problems? Absolutely. One thing Im worried about is initiative coming back to fill the goblin stompy shoes again, where rescaminator reanimating their opponents stuff is strong, whilst reanimating a muxus is kind of bad. The timing on the ban is also awkward because I think that we will barely stabilize by the time MH3 shakes the foundations.

As someone who hasn't played legacy, the banning feels a lot like the shaharazad ban. Just too annoying to play with.

Stickers were a horrible experience in paper, absolutely horrible. Happy they are gone! I also hope this ban is going to be a lesson for how future “fun experiments” can impact eternal formats.

Big fan of the announcement. I was never a fan of the unfinity set being legal for competitive play

Notably, while stickers and attractions are gone, I do think that there's something with doing sets with similar flavor to unfinity in black border (namely, goofy flavor or mechanics that work in the ruleset but don't quite work with the flavor. Think Comet, Starlight Spectacular, Magar of the magic strings, captain rex nebula, so on and so forth)

Upset about the ban as a goblin enjoyer, big fan of the video format. Keep it up.

As purely a viewer of Legacy content rather than a player, Sticker Goblin, Orcish Bowmasters and Grief are cards I'm really starting to get tired of seeing. It has nothing to do with balance or anything and I fully recognize it will likely be quickly replaced by another set of cards soon enough after (possible) bans. Personally I don't really mind seeing less Goblins for similar reason... Although I actually feel that the random nature of Sticker goblin was a not-insignificant reason I didn't like seeing it.

Battle Cry Goblin was from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, the D&D set that was legal in Standard and also notably gave us Den of the Bugbear.

I again comment because i could listen to this all the time. I think dismember also cleanly answers troll and fury gets reanimated, which is another point on the cases you opened on them

I never thought of how name sticker Goblin made other aggro decks much worse due to being faster than them and even on how this very agressive build could affect even control decks. Even with this being said, it is strange this happening before MH3 since the edition is shaking up legacy. Very interesting video. Congratulations!

I think there is design space for a MTG card that "cycles" or is just discarded with a rider effect that counters an effect that would allow the opponent to look at your hand. Don't know how this would be structured or worded. But could hem in turbo hand disruption a bit.

If the banning is resonant enough like this one to need additional context I appreciate the full video. If its like "This thing was singularly broken and was only played seriously in one top deck/list" then it can just be a reel but id appreciate something either way.

It's sort of dumb that they're still legal in commander. Like, a bad idea is a bad idea. Just because it is more casual doesn't mean it isn't a negative

I was kinda surprised that "Name Sticker" Goblin was banned on MTGO, maybe for clarity, but the card is much less obnoxious than the paper version I thought this was just something wrecking paper formats because you had to bring so much more clutter with you even if you didn't play with unfinity cards, stuff that isn't even in your deck, just in case something crazy happens, or even just to bluff. You know, if they printed something that is "Name Sticker" Goblin but with cleaned up text in paper and on magic online, that'd be a pretty neat idea.

Loved the idea of a metagame projection after a major banning like this. It's kind of wild that Scam has 15% of the meta and that's just considered okay.

WoTC should implement a rule where some cards' legality is restricted to commander in the first time (especially cards designed for multiplayer/fun)

I came back to MTG for the first time in almost a decade JUST before this ban and started to play Legacy with some friends over Tabletop Simulator. When I saw "Name Sticker" Goblin my first reaction was "what the fuck is this nonsense?". As soon as I saw it I thought of Storm, but apparently just killing your opponent with a wall of hasted goblins is better, who would have guessed? Lol

First of all this did not come across as a news video to me. Having said that I really enjoyed this video format, I liked the mh3 spoilers video as well. I seems like you are only going to make a video like this if you have something to say about it. A lot of people hate on click bate style thumbnails but I feel like we live in the time where everyone has to steal a loaf of bread to feed their family, anyway sticker goblin will still be fun in cube.

Ah darn I was hoping to play with some of those cards on arena. They'd probably be legal in timeless, them being banned cuts the chances of them getting added ever.

My problem with this is the MTR already addressed what to do if you need to put a sticker on something but dont have the sheets. So the metamorph problem doesn't exist. This seems to be a lifeline thrown to mtgo since they were probably not going to implement attractions.

I just built my first legacy deck a month ago and it was goblins. I feel like I wasted my money now that mind goblin is banned. Don’t know if I’ll ever build another legacy deck again

Damn sucks that we'll probably never get attractions or stickers properly in mtgo, but like I get the logistical issue. Shame that they overshot the goblin :( But hey at least I can still jam attractions in commander, that's cool.

and what will WOTC do about blue xerox shells making up like 34-50% of the meta since 2011? I think it's silly they always ban hammer out any green, black, white and red deck that approaches anywhere near 10% of a meta share for being "unfun" but will never touch these daze/wasteland/brainstorm shells that make people cringe when it's just another delver matchup People don't even play B/R or B/G reanimator anymore because it's just easier to slot grief and animate dead into some xerox shell, and yet that is never the problem.

I don't think that the departure of the name sticker Goblin will kill the entire Goblin Decktype. I think the deck is still viable, the question is, how will the deck be build instead?

Please WotC print a Seething Goblin (or just call it Mind Goblin), it was genuinely good for the format and the MTGO is actually slightly weaker than the paper version on average (by like 1%), so it's still a nerf.

Aside of meta game changes it may occur, this sound a very reasonable decision, UN-sets always should stay out of tournament play, it makes no sense that some cards of the sets are allowed while others no. The only reason I see here is to sell more boosters of these sets, again a decision to favore corporation gains against the game health (something that unfortunately we are seeing a lot recently tbh).

Phil what do you think about a paper version of MTGO's Name Sticker Goblin? Make a paper goblin that has the die roll effect and call it something different. Do you think that would be good for the format?

Sucks the last 2 bannings have just been taking a T1.5 aggro decks and murdering them. Not going to be a conspiracy theorist, but man it sucks every time they need to do a ban it's just taking out non-T0 metagame shakers while leaving the problem cards with 40-60% metagame share untouched. Hope they reprint "Name Sticker" goblin in another manner without the sticker mechanic, in a commander product. They murdered elves out of the format, would like to have some other fast creature based strategy that isn't FoW based. I know some people didn't like it because the deck felt like it was gambling a lot but that's in general true with basically all stompy decks. Dump your hand with threats earlier than they should be hopefully your opponent dies, your opponent is locked out of the game, or the card you put down builds back it's advantage so you can do it again. MH3 seems to be having some interesting aggro cards that also generate value so it seems Wizards might be taking the idea to heart. Goblins seems like a happy accident, and hope Wizards pushes for aggro to be a bigger part of the eternal metagames since it clearly can exist if they are willing to give it the support.

Was going to happen sooner or later lol. Unfinity is one of the worst sets ever. Not even funny commanders. Literally just comet stellar pup, basics, and duals. Everything else was complete garbage in that entire set.

They knew exactly what they were doing. They did this to sell a dud product. Players were saying this shouldn't be in the format before the set even dropped. This is nothing more than a corporate bait n switch.

It was not necessary to ban Attractions

Every legacy and vintage ban triggers me because commander banlist hasn't been touched for almost 3 years. Even with the new leyline there is no way coalition victory is more banworthy than thassas oracle

While i understand the issues with stickers i am extremly bummed out by the removal of attractions. They were super cool.

I really do hope there's more swords to plowshares + wasteland decks. 10 islands, 8 fetches, 0 creatures, I hope they're happy with 8 dead cards :)

The fact that Muxus was a playable card in legacy, much less a legit threat, should have been a giant red flag that Name Sticker Goblin needed to go.
