Right because you should not expect to replace a petrol engine in a car in until it is over 300k miles these days. Youd replace the batteries in an electric 1.5 to 3 times in the same distance traveled. And batteries are getting more expensive not less as time goes on.

@@metroid74what are you on about, there’s old Model S cars out there at 500k miles and still on original batteries. Estimations for Model 3 and Y batteries are between 300k and 500k miles before a replacement is likely needed.

@@metroid74your claim is factually incorrect. 300-500k miles is the standard. Anything less is an anomaly. Teslas are much cheaper to own than an equivalent ICE vehicle.

Not too mention you can replace the ICE engine 3 times for cost of one Tesla battery replacement.

Where’s your source? Battery places range from all sorts of places nobody really knows the real price don’t be just throwing around high numbers.

The insurance isn’t more expensive we added a Tesla to our insurance and it went down. Guessing it depends on the carrier.

I'm going to use some GENERAL numbers to paint a better picture of how much gas cost for 100k miles. 100,000 miles / 400 miles per tank = 260 fill ups. 260 fill ups x $80(avg price of fill up of 16 gallon tank varies by location/cost) Estimated cost is $20,800 in the span of 100,000 miles of pumping for gas.

​​@@garretreed9709I've read that before too. So a typical Tesla only has 60% usage of it's total published battery specs. That means a Model Y LR (long range) can only go 198 miles if staying inside the 20-80 percentage.

Not many people need to replace a battery every 100k miles. It is warrantied for 500k miles. If he paid for it, he broke it.

By percentage, replacing a battery is less likely to happen compared to an ice requiring a motor replacement. Which is a rare occurrence in itself.

Except gas engines don’t last forever either. I just spent 2k just to replace my water pump and timing belt. I still have a transmission and other engine accessories that could fail

I’m pretty sure cost of fuel was factored into the cost. Watch the video again you’ll see that fuel was factored in for the Lexus. No way a Lexus RX 350 costs 27 grand in only maintenance to 100k miles, that’s $2700 every 10k miles, Lexus is a Toyota no way that it would be that expensive, even with going to the dealership for everything

Cannot imagine the time used to charge 300k miles of range. Cali doesn’t even like a/c blasting in summer but lets all charge our cars the equivalent of 1 month straight.

Yeh horrible ride … rattling and road noise on every imperfections on the road. Door is super thin and rattles when opening and closing door… makes it feel super cheap … I like the graphics on the tablet though

Although $7500 is tax credit, it will still be added in the total price plus the interest rate over how many years an individuals loan term is(if you’re getting a loan). Still more attractive compared to these dealers charging 6k over msrp! Crazy market these days

All battery systems in electric cars are reused. It's basically to keep from having to dispose batteries which are dangerous

Refurbished means new with some modifications that got fix. It does not mean use. However I understand that you want a complete new one

also, no cobalt or nickel. no thermal runaway. I support this recommendation. also, 99% of the time you own a car you are not likely traveling over 150 miles a day. so a car with say 220-280 mile range with lfp would be pretty optimal.

Less than any gas car. Much less. My car charges fully in my garage overnight. I wake up every morning with the equivalent of a full tank of gas. Yes, a bit more time on a long trip, but for everyday life it takes much less time than all your gas station stops.

not everybody got a garage most less a safe place to charge overnight it's never going to work people will be easy targets for people charging their car.

Look, you can drive whatever you want, but the truth is you do have $50k to "splurge" on a car. By your own admission, 245000 miles driven means around 10000 gallons of gas, which is right about $45k (maybe less, depending on your local price), plus I'm adding 50 oil changes at $50, that's about $2500, and also some transmission work done, around $4000. Now, I realize that driving an EV means you need to still spend some money on electricity, but the cost will be significantly less than what you pay for gas + oil changes. As a comparison, at the current rate of electricity that I'm paying, 245k miles would cost me around $4k. Plus no oil changes or transmission replacement. Now, the battery change is not a normal or frequent occurence, as is the case for the engine rebuilt on a petrol car, it must be a factor on the style of driving, but if you think about it, changing the battery vs replacing the engine is still a better deal on an EV, because a new battery adds 8 yr warranty to your car, as opposed to maybe 3 yrs on an ICE.

These types of videos dont apply to us peasants who cant afford 50K on a car 😅. I mean if you can afford a $50K car why even make any comparisons? Obviously you can afford whatever it will cost to maintain and fix the car

this will change over time though. my wife has a hybrid. i got an EV. by the time she replaces her car, we're confident we'll be able to get another EV, and become a two EV household. day to day, after we're done with work, we haul our kid around in my Polestar instead of her volvo because we want to avoid wear and tear on her car. not to mention the cost of gas. Hell, some mornings she just takes my car in the morning cause she doesn't have time to fill up her volvo at the gas station. It's just way more convenient and less of a headache in regards to maintenance having to go get gas somewhere. next year supercharges will be available to damn near everyone. essentially eliminating the range anxiety. so yeah, our confidence in EVs is quite high.
