HUGE "Skate 4" Details REVEALED! (Free to Play, Mobile, ETC!) 

This is gonna be one of those games it’ll either be a game changer and played for years or it’ll be an insanely huge let down im so stressed

I still hope there will be a real story mode in skate... It's always a fun way to discover the map, learning the mechanics etc

I really hope this game doesn’t turn out to be a sandbox skate game. I really hope they haven’t forgotten about the story mode/ offline game that made skate what it is

I am enjoying how open and grounded the multiplayer feels. It's a nice direction. But I have 2 massive concerns that might ruin the whole game. 1) free unlockables, knowing that the game is free makes me concerned for how they get us to buy stuff. I want my skater to FEEL like my skater. 2) I have zero interest in the collabozones, it's an alright concept at best, but I want them to push the real map in a creative direction because there's a sense of accomplishment you get from skating an actual spot. I was playing it yesterday and the map feels careless, I want map variety, I want landmarks, I want hills, roofs, pools, bowls, sewers. Obviously the map needs to be huge after such a long hiatus, but I don't just want big maps, I want museums, asylums, docks, boardwalks, highways, graveyards, theme parks. The community expects an ambitious project and I fear collabozones are an easy out to shield criticism for an underwhelming map.

EA, free to play and live service are a combination that has never failed before...

Honestly would rather pay 60-70 bucks just so I know I’m getting a good single player experience. Kinda uneasy about it being free

God I hope we have a story mode and an offline mode, most people don’t have perfect internet so online mode just because annoying and laggy

Although I do enjoy multiplayer a lot when you live in a super rural area with not the greatest internet single player and story mode games thrive in our household. So I hope they put enough effort into free roam and story where I, and many others alike can still enjoy the offline experience.

I haven't seen anyone say this but I hope that the Skate soundtrack is just as good as the one for Skate 3

I know I’m really pessimistic here but this new information pretty much kills the hype for me. A Free to play game with a multiplayer focus sounds exactly like all the crap games that only aim to appeal to the casual user who wants to play like 1 hour a week. Maybe I had wrong expectations but I was looking forward to a new skate game with a huge new map, cool story challenges and this feeling of discovery when you find a cool spot and try new tricks. I hope I’m wrong but this feels like a really basic skateboard game for casual players that’s only called skate for marketing purposes.

Seriously, a free to play model from EA? Why don't you go ahead and trust your neighborhood drug addict to perform a triple bypass on you while you're at it?

The skate community is honestly insane . 've been around with you for a long time man and its been great getting to see more people find your content, you've done such a great job getting others to experience and have fun with the games like this. keep it up man

Honestly I think the free to play model is an interesting move, unless they manage to pull a fortnite somehow and can make absolute bank, it doesn't seem like the most sound idea for a game thats basically supposed to replicate skating. The microtransactions are just gonna be like baggy pants nd like cool clothes which I'm not against, but doesn't sound like a long term sustainable business model. I could be wrong and I hope I am, but honestly I wouldn't mind paying 60$ for a completed game., it really comes down to them wanting to turn this into a live service game.

How can you guys be hyped for a free to play EA game that is also going to be on phones? They also said the microtransactions will be for cosmetics which is fine i guess i still dont want to buy things like that and i would rather pay 60$ for the full game but the thing that really worried me (except that it is a EA free to play mobile game) is that you can pay for "convenience" and that tells me that they will make progress and other things slow or grindy for people not wanting to pay. Also remember that EA says that FIFA is not pay to win which it clearly is so dont belive anything until the game is out, i love skate so i hope this will be great but i would be lying if this did not kill all of my hype for the game...

I’m exited for everything, I just hope they don’t slack on the single player/story mode, I’m all for online gaming and multiplayer, but I still like playing single player from time to time

Discovering new spots is my favorite thing to do. And I do not mean finding an “own the spot” like skate 3 where there were about 20 actually good spots. What I want is a world that is dense. Lots of stairs, ramps, rails, and drops in every alleyway, every plaza, every concord, etc. I enjoyed skate 2 the most because when I could ply with my friends, we would just look around for a simple gap or rail set and just keep building longer and longer lines around that. Maybe go up the hill further and you could gap some grass and the slide further on that sweet hubba and line into that stair set more smoothly and get a great clip on the recording. Also y’all better have free cam, splines, and splits like all the other skate games. I want to make my own hi light reels and be able to share my footy.

When a game is free to play, somehow it makes me feel like I don't truly own the game. And that lets down my gaming experience for sure.

When I heard free to play, I was happy and scared. But once I watched your video I was less concerned about it being free to play. I’m super excited for Skate. !!! Can’t wait for some epic challenges and content from you on it!

The status of gaming is at the point where free to play is an automatic red flag

A few thoughts I have for this game: Free-to-play makes me nervous, especially with microtransactions, but I'm slightly more at ease knowing they don't plan on there being loot boxes, paywalls, or paid advantages. Mechanics are THE MOST IMPORTANT part! Though I definitely hope the game LOOKS good too. I also REALLY hope they keep "flumping" in the final product, and I hope it's fun and especially satisfying. There aren't too many games with good parkour mechanics. I hope the multiplayer isn't TOO much of a focus. They say "that's why we're building much more than a linear single-player experience" (6:26). So it sounds like there ARE plans for a single-player mode, I could be misinterpreting it, but if there is one; it has to be good. I can't think of many ways for them to mess it up, but it IS possible. Using the term "massive-multiplayer" also makes me a little nervous for the game, but not as nervous as the free-to-play thing and microtransactions do. They better hold themselves to the "when it's ready" part. We should try to as well. (I don't know how well that would work, but...) I would rather wait 5 more years than get an early 2023 release with bugs and optimization issues.

It amazes me to see someone who actually starts to get excited about EA announcing an FTP game. Skate was such a great single-player experience and I feel this game is gonna be a multiplayer skeleton, where it will highly depend on whether the community adds content on their own or not. I have this bad feeling that it's gonna be like a Mario Maker in the Skate universe.

honestly the main thing im hoping for are iconic locations that stand up to SUMP quarry the shark the dam etc

haven’t heard anybody say this but there needs to be the glitches there were in skate 3, the speed glitches and launch glitches were so much fun to mess around with. taking all that time to learn them is honestly what got me so incredibly hooked on the game

I’m really happy that they are turbo focused on multiplayer and good mechanics because I’d love to play with friends and have a great time. But I wish they broke the mold a bit more because I feel like I already what to expect. Redundant daily challenges, virtually no free cosmetics, and garbage updates that add very little to the game. I’m still excited, but skeptical to say the least.

Honestly I hope they still add a single player mode or some kind of story. Skating may be fun with friends, but its also fun doing missions and stuff. Not saying they won't have any. But sometimes I like to just chill and play games on my own without being inside of a giant world with other people. It seems like a cool idea, but I'm not too sure about it yet. I'm also hoping that now its free its not gonna have a ton of pay stuff. Like I don't mind buying stuff every so often for a game. But I really hope its not heavy micro transaction based like other online games. I'm still excited none the less. I'll probably still play it too. But I'm just gonna wait until its out to give my full 2 cents on it.

i know how we all feel about microtransactions, but given the devs actions so far on community involvement and how they’ve listened to feedback, im not worried. i think that the game being free is amazing because we’ll be able to play with friends and not have to worry about that price barrier, people saying “i’ll wait for it to go on sale” etc. it’ll be so much fun

This has given me some confidence, they seem to have the right ideas in play testing and really focusing on mechanics. Hoping they can deliver as i feel everyones expectations are so high for this now

Hopefully you can build parks on your own in a single player mode not with other people. Yeah the colabo zones sound fun, but I fear that there are going to be a lot of trolls just ruining the fun for everyone.

The look has a big influence on the feel. If they can offer multiple animation options for varying styles, this would be incredible, and something I’ve never seen in a skateboarding game. Edit: by animation I mean the animation when landing a big drop, popping an ollie, pushing and leaning just to name a few. Even just giving us those would be huge, imagine getting like 5 different options for each one of those.

I know it’s pre-alpha, but I hope it doesn’t just focus on an online game, like the other free to play games we have. This series is big in story mode and free roam and I really hope they don’t take that away, and I really hope they bring the easy, normal and hardcore mode for the “realistic players and for the players that like to skate in easy mode” Still a really long way to the full game so anything can change but the game MUST HAVE STORY MODE AND FREE ROAM NOT JUST ONLINE.

Just signed up for testing, actually I just recently heard about skate , believe it or not from Sam Tabor and then found you hah, but it's a really cool game, I hope I'll have this opportunity to test at least Skate 4 , the only skating game I have played when I was ..little ,was Shaun White skateboard :) well...pretty excited for skate 4

To most people, the term free to play is great, but when EA is involved, it’s bad news.

This is one of the first games I've filled since it was announced, since day one. I am very excited for it!!!

I have never played Skate, I was more of a TonyHawk pro skater + underground player. Im excited they are taking such care in the mechanics. This game has plenty of potential. What about the music ? One of the main reasons Tony Hawks games were so nostalgic for me was the great music. Hope it meets everyone's expectations. Much love ZexyZak and community.

Kind of sceptical about free to play to be honest. But as long as singleplayer and a story mode are still there and are actually good i don't mind.

Seeing the confidence and respect that they are working with the game, feels so chill. It's like the game it's in good hands and they won't rush the game to make more money or launch it unfinished. I'm so happy and HYPED!!!

I wonder if Skate on mobile will have the same or similar gameplay mechanic as Skate IT on the ds. I used to love that game, and since all tricks was made by dragging your finger on the screen in different “shapes”, it was super easy to do the tricks you wanted to do

If you saw in the trailer, one of the comments said it be cool if you can go around the map and buy different things at different locations. Which most likely hints thats how they are adding in game pay

personally, id like to see a item shop for clothing with "skate points" you can earn them from scores or buy them.

Free to play is giving me the feeling that the game will be very limited in terms of spots for free to play players and character customization, knowing how ea is, I much rather purchase a 60$ game that is complete and can get on sale for half price after a year than to have to buy add ons that probably will surpass the 60$ mark

The option to have a second or even third control scheme similar to skater xl or session would be an awesome option for people who want it

Was kinda hoping the next Skate would be a free to play, crossplay MMO, I can't lie. Kinda like Rider's Republic (but much better). Not only does this mean everyone can play it, but there'll also be constant updates/new things to do. I'm absolutely fine with paying for clothing, emotes and boards, which is the most likely for MTX I think?

No matter what EA say, good or bad, don't trust it. They have a history or promising things and then going back. They have killed so many franchises, some game work with F2P and some don't. Skate 1, 2 and 3 all survived without being a live service game, this new one should not be either. One thing said in the video is that they likes, in other games, micro-transactions for cosmetics AND CONVINIENCE, this is the most important thing. They say they wont lock people off from certain things via a paywall, but your gonna have to climb a paymegaramp to be able to get everything. If they are making money via convenience, then they have a MASSIVE incentive to make it difficult to play for free.

I really think that the base skate 3 game had some great mechanics and is definitely my personal favorite skateboarding game I hope to see them keep with these same mechanics with obvious updates

Hear me out. Idk what the map is gonna be like but I think there should be a massive map like in Fortnite. They should add some of the most iconic skate 1,2, and 3 areas as POIs and build a generic city or neighborhood in between the POIs. That would be nutty alongside this new engine.

I’m really waiting on a regular port carverton story mode like before and a second story mode where you get to go to iconic skate spots to skate & recreate some bangers like Hollywood High 16, China Banks, LA Courthouse etc. Think that’d be real cool 🔥

I’m all about the free to play. They seem to cover everything but Nintendo Switch. I think that should be included as well. I would also like to the ability to drive cars/bikes and pull friends behind them. Even though it’s a skate game, I would like to see surfing too. Paddle out and catch some waves. Just free thinking here but maybe an infected mode and there people like 80+ people skating/chasing after you. Paintball guns would be a cool idea too. Just my $.02

in skate 2 it was cool how you had to call people to denob a rail, empty a pool, and call big black to block security. As well as buying clothes with money you make in the game
