Husband Plays Tomb Raider 3 - Lud's Gate 

Continuously impressed by Alfredo’s ability to map out a room and not get lost. My brain is just not wired that way!

Honestly how Alfredo hasn’t rage quit the London levels yet amazes me! Especially after having to play Aldwych twice

Of all the years I've played Tomb Raider I can't say I've ever beaten Lud's Gate without a guide XD. That underwater section is just too much for me :P. Thank you Stella!

This level took me 3 hours when I last played it, and Alfredo made it look like a damn breeze. Nice work homie!

The big stealth room can be seen from the start if you take the left door in the Damned lair: secret 1 is found nearby and the stealth section is done to get the last secret. It’s possible to get down here by jumping over the barbed wire just right but you’ll be stuck as the guard with the boiler room key hasn’t spawned yet so the diver won’t be triggered and you can’t beat the level because no key. The frogman/diver acts like a spiked wall if you touch him while standing on land, which is weird. I can’t remember if it’s because he shares the spiked wall’s slot in the WAD. You_can_ still beat the level if you do the flying UPV trick Chris did before but couldn’t manage in the video, then fly to the shaft in the far right corner when facing the water from the main “shore” with the crates. Above is the pit below where you got the embalming fluid and if you fly below in the shortcut from said shaft then follow the diamond sewage pipe and disable the glitch, you’ll be in the main path from before the big room and the guard will spawn. Joke’s on them if you got the secret and every thing in it UPV included if they close the door after that. I wonder what this room even is, as well as the buried ruins in the lever maze? Some kind of modern sewer cistern or a city vault the sewer canal happens to run through? The damned lair above seems to be right next door to the museum basement as you leave via the Sphinx room and it also appears to lead most of the way up Sophia’s skyscraper? You end up in the boiler room of the latter via a sewer drain as well as a septic tank on the other side of the ventilation shaft before ending up in Sophia’s office right away.

Nice work! I'm glad Alfredo doesn't consider Lud's Gate frustrating, I also think it's really not that bad. The worst part is the underwater section and he dealt with it the absolutely best way: Explore all entrances first so you know what's where, and then do all the switches without the UPV. It's pretty straightforward. And the previous room, the one with one guard and one diver is actually super easy when you don't want the secret (which means lots of sneaking) so, yeah :) Like, honestly, this whole level looks fairly simple if you don't care for secrets, it's nice.

Alfredo's control of lara has blips here and there but he is also quite nimble with the tank controls now. It's amazing to see the progression ^_^

Hoo boy, this is the one, my vote for TR3's hardest level. It's certainly a daunting ride, but I do love it nonetheless. I love how it's basically two levels in one, the museum and the underwater section. Both are equally intimidating, but very rewarding. This level has imo the best secret in TR3, which requires you to use your head to get, and the end cutscene is too funny. Tough level, but still great.

1:00:25 Anyone else think Sophia Leigh looks a hell of a lot like Jaqueline Natla, specifically her FMV model? When I first saw footage of this level in the Tomb Raider movie DVD’s special feature Are You Game?, I thought she _was_ Natla for the longest time. I didn’t know she was someone else until I played these levels myself around 2004 or so. As we find out, the Natla counterpart in this game is actually Willard.

I wonder what the TR logic behind having an Egyptian puzzle room with pressure plates and switches is in the middle of a museum? Children's extremely dangerous play area perhaps?

I'm starting to get the impression that Tomb Raider III might be Alfredo's favorite Tomb Raider game so far? Once again, fantastic video. I love how Alfredo seems to have a genuinely good time with these oft-maligned London levels.

Alfredo coped brilliantly with what is a very difficult level. Did so well with the water section as well. On PS1 it was a nightmare because of the lighting. And now Sophia Lee awaits. Can't wait to see how Alfredo handles that.

I've softened my attitude towards Lud's Gate, but it's still such a fucking long level. 😂

8:30 Core confirmed in one stream with Ash that it is indeed supposed to be the British Museum but it is called natural history in the script (one version of it anyway) which was likely a typo, which is accurate as the same script calls Sophia Leigh her beta name of Rachel Ula only to use her final one by the section describing Lud’s Gate Part 2 and City, which were more complex but I’ll get to that in another comment. Likely due to this typo, the recorded dialog ended up using the wrong name so they had to roll with it. Hell, I visited the Natural History Museum my first time in London precisely because of Tomb Raider 3 as back in 2014/2015 I didn’t yet know it was the wrong one.

Yes the pure satisfaction of getting the water vehicle to fly makes this level more bearable 😂 you have to get positioned into a corner upside down and switch between getting on and off the vehicle until Lara holds onto it , its a little difficult to explain 😅

I tried seeing this level with a new perspective today as Alfredo played it (which he did very well!). And even though this level has everything a Tomb Raider level needs, it's still the blandest of them all. Like food without salt. Like spring without birds. Like... You get it. It's probably the atmosphere, but I can't put a finger on it... Well, anyways, congratulations on making it through and still liking it! xD - Looking forward to the finale!

I tend to be fairly good at not getting lost in Classic Tomb Raider, but this level pushed me to my limit when I was younger. I've only ever played through it once but, like you Chris, I didn't enjoy it very much. On the other hand, Alfredo looked like a pro doing it! Well done!

oh man...I did forget to send my comment yesterday and of course everything is now deleted x'D I was really impressed by this part :) first of all I must say I had this level way worse in memory...but not sure how I would handle the later labyrinth underwater - alfredo was truly a tomb raider, incredible how he memorized and navigate through this level =) a big respect for this, I really did enjoy the commentary but also a lot the gameplay for this video! :) what I do like of the level is the museum part with the egypt temple...it might not be really realistic, but I guess it works for the semi-real tomb raider world and it was a nice homage to tomb raider 1, but with a really different atmosphere, a more sneaky, urban feeling^^ I felt the war flashbacks around 32:38 and later when you did see this room with the diver chris xD also woop woop we got all the weapons or better to say you two got all the weapons =D I'm really happy that alfredo had a good time with this level and that he felt better after the level than with some underwater levels from tr2, his adventure spirit is rising and the gameplay skills, too :D great video!

Like Thames Wharf, this level makes no sense architecture wise as said in the last comment and both the boiler room & the sewage tank are yet more reasons why. Besides the pistons in the hallway, why are the boiler burners _above_ the water tank? I don’t know what those swinging sextant things above the shit pool are either. The original plans for London were more complex: Thames Wharf actually started in Canary Wharf or somewhere similar on the Thames and involved crossing the water before taking to the roofs in order to reach the Cathedral after a fair bit. The bell could be reached in gameplay but would not be ringing and blocked the way into All Hallows (it leads to Aldwych in the final game) so Lara would need to turn it on before the cutscene would trigger. The Damned would be fought in All Hallows and the floor would collapse under Lara, dumping her in the Damned’s Lair where Bob would tell her his stuff. Then she’d meet friendly Damned in Aldwych, using the tunnels to get to the British Museum and upon entering would meet the angry Egyptian ghost or zombified mummy Bob warned her about as the reason he didn’t get the fluid himself. (She was cut completely so she never appears in the final museum) Lara would use the sewers to return to Bob instead of using them to reach Sophia. Bob would lead Lara into the basement of Sophia’s HQ and the resulting climb to the top involved elevators, hallways and stairs and vents as the building was under reconstruction, playing as the script description implies, like a cross between VCI and the Aesir Corp building in Max Payne. Even City was longer then the final game, with Lara chasing Sophia through booby trapped hallways and such on her way to the roof before the boss fight we got.

5:18 I don’t think those are real guards: I bet they’re Sophia’s mercs posing as guards so they can get at Lara. Same with the armed guards in the water tank place too. (Still no idea what it is. Some say the Thames Barrier but we were nowhere near the river) For those in America or other places who might not know, it’s illegal to arm public guards in the UK. While they are reusing the MP (military police) guard model from Nevada with a palette swap/skin texture change, the idea they are illegally carrying pistols to work gives that idea some weight. Speaking of this room, why is that photocopier on display?

I somehow managed to skip the whole part with the embalming fluid by missing that jump that leads to it. Leads you to a later part of the level and you never need to give the fluid to the Damned. A bit mean, but I didn't do it on purpose.

Argh! Here it is! This game's "THAT level" (every game I know have a level like that). If you survive Lud's Gate, you can survive anything!

I do not like this level. The one word to describe it is convoluted. The museum portion redeems it somewhat. Thames Warf is just a bit worse in my opinion.
