Thank you, that is very kind of you to say so. It is our pleasure to bring you information on all these lovely plants. Have you subscribed to our channel? Oh my goodness, i could listen and watch you all day. I love your voice and i love how you give all the good information about the plants you are showing us. I absolutely love this hydrangea, how i wish i could get one for my flower garden im redoing. I pulled everything i had in it out this fall, except my Autumn Joy Sedum and my old fashion lilac bush that i got a start of from my grandma many years ago. I was wanting to plant a hydrangea and a hibiscus for sure. Thank you for always sharing all of your information and your love for plants❤

@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 10 месяцев назад
That is great to hear, sturdiness is one of the the things we look for in our trials, and in all our trial sites, we have never seen her flop, so it will be interesting to hear how you get on with her. Don't forget to keep us posted on your progress. She is also really beautiful, and so tough and hardy and easy to grow and look after too. Just remember with your other plants not to over fertilize (bear in mind leakage from lawn fertilizing too), and maybe see of you can grow them a little "harder" with less watering (once your plants get established) and maybe that will help keep them more upright. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, take a look at another of David's videos ("Complete Guide To Enjoying Panicle Hydrangeas"), at the 10.57 minute mark he explains about a second trim: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLqmDOMPQJs.htmlsi=7WijokzfSWQXAico this is way to make them bushier, it will set the flowering date back, but your plants will be shorter and less likely to flop. Meanwhile, do you know that our plants are available at hundreds of partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ and if you happen to live outside our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, check with your local garden center anyway, because they may be able to get the plants in for you. @OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question. As you may have noticed from nursery shots of our plants in the video, they are all standing up sturdily and proud, and not flopping over, even though they are watered by overhead irrigation (simulated rain) every day. That's the beauty of those thick stems! And also please note that the plants featured in our garden trials area were subjected to several heavy, summer storms (with turbulent wind and rain) prior to the filming, and as you probably noticed they are not drooping over either! That's partly why we do the "real garden" extensive testing of new selections, planted out next to other new prospects and a lot of existing varieties. We are able to compare and evaluate them and that's why we are so confident in the sturdy performance of this exciting one. We hope this answers your question. Have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. @OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 10 месяцев назад
These types of Hydrangeas (paniculata) are very hardy and overwinter well in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region. The mophead types (macrophylla) are generally OK too, especially if they are "remontant" ones (flower on current year's growth). If you would like to learn more about these, can we suggest that you take a look at some of the other videos we have posted here on this channel. In particular we would direct you to the one entitled "Why Isn't My Hydrangea Blooming": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V5Ez7_9ztT4.htmlsi=Kf_YWOPdUmEC9b33 In this video David explains about the various types, why this happens, and what you can do about it. Also, have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. I wonder how this paniculata will perform in TX zone 8b.?
@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 10 месяцев назад
If you are able to grow other paniculatas then this one should be OK too. You probably won't get the intensity of coloring that others are getting in cooler, more northerly climes but you should be able to experience the stocky, sturdy growth. If you do decide to try it, we would suggest that you look for a spot with a little overhead shade, partial or dappled shade would help to protect the big, beautiful flowers. Be sure to keep us all posted, there's probably lots of other viewers that would be interested in your experiences with it. Have you subscribed to our channel? I would love to know if the flowers will actually turn pink and retain the color instead of turning brown in areas where we have hot and humid summer.nights?
@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 10 месяцев назад
If it helps, our nursery is located in Southern New Jersey (USDA Hardiness maps Zone 7) and we get humid, sticky, summer nights, but thankfully cooler night temperatures in late summer and Autumn which as you've seen in the video allows us to get good color with some in our trials. That said, it varies from year to year and the best color is definitely achieved further North and Northwest where there's cool night temperatures (under 70 degrees). It seems the best color is achieved with these cool nights and it looks like in areas with hot, humid weather, they just will not reliably turn to these shades. We don't know if it will help, but you might be interested to know about a technique we use to get our panicle hydrangeas to flower later (when our night temperatures are cooler). David explains more about this in his video "Complete Guide To Enjoying Panicle Hydrangeas" : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLqmDOMPQJs.htmlsi=jqOEhutsKxNBUo_H , and if you tune in at the 11 minute mark, you will hear him explain how we give our plants a second trim and this consistently allows us to get good pink and red color. r than some of the others to set flower buds. Hope this helps. Have you subscribed to our channel? @OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries Месяц назад
Congratulations on selecting one of our best panicle hydrangea varieties. Thanks for watching and asking your question. We are pleased to tell you that pruning your Hydrangea Love a Lot Pink will help to make it bushier, stronger and produce bigger, fuller flowers! It, and most of the other panicle Hydrangeas (except Early Evolution) flower on the current year's growth, so pruning it in late autumn or early spring will stimulate new growth, that will then sprout out to carry these beautiful, big flowers in the summer. You don't mention whether your plant is a shrub form or tree form - Love a Lot Pink comes in both. Fortunately, David has posted two separate videos (also here on this channel) showing how to prune both types... Here's a link to that will show you how to prune the shrub form: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z6STEztMaAQ.htmlsi=61aWoZnvpi3SMQ1v And also, here's a link that will show you how to prune the tree form (if you need that too): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t9zYyaUDmNE.html in these videos, David is working on other selections, but the principle is the same for Love a Lot Pink. We don't want to overload you with information, but if it helps here's another link to a video entitled "Complete Guide To Enjoying Panicle Hydrangeas": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLqmDOMPQJs.html , where David provides more tips and insights on how to grow and enjoy them. And, now that we are in the midst of the main planting season (spring through late Fall) we try to encourage everyone to visit our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/. It is probably only a matter of time! A plant this good, often gets quickly distributed amongst the worldwide trade. So, ask at your local garden centers and see if they can help you find it. Tip, the key will be to look out for the botanical name (Hydrangea Bokopiav)..... It is likely to have another trade marked name with you in Germany. We hope this helps. We suggest you ask at your local garden centers. David tells us that in a recent conversation with one of the growers at Sheridan Nurseries, they are intending to put it into production. That's not the plan, but yes, if they are browsed (or pruned) in winter or early spring, they will grow out and flower on the current year's growth. Near the end of this video, David mentions "P. Love a lot will be a bit bigger growing (5' or so) and have bigger (almost gigantic) flowers, Ruby Snow will be more compact, and have slightly smaller flowers but more of them, and it will be bushier and more wider and rounded in habit too.
