As soon as I saw this video I ordered a damper for my V1. It arrived here in Australia really quickly. I have now installed it on my pedals and wow, what a positive difference! I have backed off the centering spring tension, the pedals still self center but I can now hold any pedal position more easily while still retaining are smooth movement. I will continue to experiment with different damper settings. If anyone is waiting for the dampers to be back in stock, please be patient. They are a worthwhile and great value upgrade to your pedals. Thank you Milan for not only a fantastic product but also your continued support for all your existing customers. Cheers!
Hi Milan! I'm glad to be your customer again after so many years. I have a very early S/N model and when I saw this I knew I had to get it! Thanks very much for a great product that has given me a lot of enjoyment over many years.
Fantastic work Milan! Really appreciate the elegant solution for V1 and V2 configurations. Other companies just upgrade their latest flagship and ask customers to buy a new set of pedals - you look out for your fellow SIM fans and provide a retrofit kit. Looking forward to installing the damper on my v2 pedals!
Moment I saw the damper, I've ordered it right away...good thing it was in stock. Great support current customer no matter what version you've got. Thank you Milan!
I might be late to the damper game, but I will place an order as soon as the kit is back in stock. First I thought "nah, my Crosswind is perfect as is out of the box" but after reading the comments here and the reviews on the MFG website, it seems to me that Milan has made a fantastic piece of hardware even better.
The best pedals I've ever tried. However the dampener did not suit for me in my environment and I just disassembled mine after half a year of use. Still great stuff that you have options and very practical assembly for older kits also. Great work Milan, and thanks for the best single controller I have!
just got my pedals in the mail and oh my god they are good. thank you MFG for such an amazing product. my rudder pedal feel is EXACTLY like a real aircraft with this mod included.
Addendum: I have been dealing with some "center point notchiness" with the damper since I installed it. Today I decided to figure out why -- and discovered that the metal "tube" that fits into the rear vertical axis plate, acting as a standoff for the long screw that goes through that axis, was not a snug fit in the hole that is in that axis plate. So I wrapped that tube with some masking tape until it was snug, and voila! just so much better. I removed the spring entirely too, as I don't want the pedals to self-center (I fly mostly helicopters). I love these pedals even more now... I have a set from another premium flight controls manufacturer that shall remain nameless -- that set is not getting any use (esp. after the damper installation), so a friend of mine is getting a great deal on those as an xmas present to himself. He'll never know the difference since he's not a pilot IRL 😁
standoff is not a snug fit but screw should be tightened enough so standoff cannot move around ( only 0,2mmlarger diameter than screw itself)...but your solution is also okey
Just installed mine and it transforms the pedals' feel quite dramatically. Also seems to remove a bit of the "micro-wiggle" around center position I had with my very light set-up. (low spring tension, cam6, inner notch for the spring).
Very Good! I don't know which version of the Crosswind Rudder pedals I have. I'm sure if I make comparisons between mine and the pictures of versions 1, 2 & 3, I should be able to tell. I bought my Crosswind pedals in 2020 from a previous owner who hardly ever used them. However, there are no ID numbers or inscriptions on them except for "MFG Crosswind". Even though I don't know what version mine are, the Hydraulic Damper is designed to fit any of the three versions. So I guess I don't need to worry about it. The only concern is how long it'll take for the order to reach the US from Croatia. I guess there isn't a US Based Milan dealership, right? Anyway, thanks for the great detailed instructions! Rich
Hello Milan, thanks for the video. I ordered a retrofit kit today alongside the new combat pedals. What is the size of the wrench you used to unscrew the M8 screw - 13 or 15? Best regards
Hey Milan!!! Thank you for the amazing addition. This is fantastic! Could you please tell me what is the difference between V2 and V3. I own V2 and I was curious if I should upgrade to V3 or stick to my V2s. Also when are we supposed to get more dampeners in stock ? I want to place an order
Ordered my damper Friday for my V2 pedals...its sort of strange though when I ordered my pedals last year, the order form says V2..but on the rudders themselves it says V3, so I'm a bit confused
that video still exist for servicing purpose but I removed it from public as it is no longer supported procedure -> you gain very little but can damage brake shaft if you are not careful (more than few did exactly that)
Im sure this video isnt monitored these days but I just received my damper kit for my V2 pedals and while taking apart the pedals the bearings fell out and I have no idea what order to everything back in. Ive been at this for an hour now. The video does not appear to utilize V2 pedals as my bearing setup is different. Could someone please help
Weeks? I can see that you have the combat style pedals right there in the video! :) looks better than replica gear actually now I have to wait to place my order! :( shipping an all that
@@pythonBlender7 I think month or bit longer. You see early prototype in video. Right now I am also colaborating with Replica and if we found 3d printed one is rigid enough we might have two versions for sale, as 3d print should be cheaper and lighter for shipping so customer will have options
Ohhh very nice, sadly showing the V1 and V2 kits as out of stock. Any idea roughly it will take to get them back in stock, and I’ll get the order put in as soon as i can.
Hi, do you have any idea what weight of oil is used in this damper? I just received mine, and it has a lot of air bubbles, you can hear them make a crackling noise when the damper is moved back and forth. It still works OK in the lowest settings, but anything over the 12th click to the heavier settings is not usable, it has a "dead" zone with no resistance due to the air. I have seen videos of how to fill it, looks like that is the only way to get rid of the air bubbles. So far it is not leaking any oil.
re-filling oil on a damper is definitevly not easy consumer DIY thing. If air bubbles are trapped inside you can live with it...but if some rubber gasket is not sealed well it will develop worse problem. Contact me by mail if it leaks
I have the v3 and the damper, i took apart the rear with the bearing but wasnt paying attention, mine I think is different than in the video, the bearing is under the first plate? Is that correct, i mean otherwise i dont see how to put the nut back on and hold those two areas together before adding back the two base plates, just seeking a sanity check here since mine seem to differ from the video, that is, the bearing isnt in the rear plate cylinder but under.
I was following your instructions, but at the end when you screwed in the "Composite damper holder" I didn't see that you used a spacer. So when I screwed in aI could hear weird noises, I couldn't tell what it was. After a few minutes the dampener holder came apart and the nut came loose. Is there any way I can just order the "Composite damper holder"? Thanks.
Just visual thing, no difference at all. Maybe on some Crosswinds damper can rub against vertical side and therefore it is better to install over the center
Howdy, I have just finished fitting my MFG damper kit (arrived in 4 days good work Milan). Mount it in the center .... why? because if it is mounted on the left side it will get in the way of the mounting hole on the left front side (this only applies if you are mounting the MFG pedals to a base, for me my pedals are mounted on 4040 extrude)
I just put my damper on and it's really cool! However I'm wondering if it's supposed to make a clicking noise when it moves sometimes? It's not super loud but loud enough to be a distraction. Without it, or with one end disconnected so the damper does not move the pedals are close to silent. Not the end of the world if that's normal but if it's not then I'll probably look into getting it replaced.
@@MFGCrosswind I re-checked every screw in the assembly and made sure they were all nice and tight but it didn't make much of a difference. I've decided that the sound isn't really a big deal with my headphones on (much less with aircraft noise playing through them) so I'm not too worried about it.
It's the bottom, longer bolt (nearest to your seat) that goes through the axis that has some play in it. I can move it with my hand and recreate the creeking, and not sure how to fix as we can't tighten so much in case of crushing the bearings... Maybe I'll try a rubber washer where the bolt meets the top of the dampener. Edit: so I put some plumbing tape around the tube like washer so it was flush in the hole and also added a rubber was on top between the bolt head and the dampener. Seems to have sorted it!
@@BRING_GUNS still squeaks, sorry! If that tube washer sat flush in the hole, or was wider at one end it would be perfect! Just too much play in the bolt no matter what :(
Damper "over the center" has forces left/right in equilibrium due to force vector and some people feel the difference between left and right when damper is mounted on a side
No :-)) That is not a defect but the fact that damper stroke cannot be perfect left and right on parallelogram principle unless one hooking point is on center of rotation. Since difference is unnoticable in most cases and it is more easy to install v3 I just gave customers a choice
What hydraulic damper does is add smooth fluid friction to rudder axis motion, and that friction can be finely adjusted by 23 increments on the damper, therefore customer has a choice of using no friction at all - and up to very hard friction. You may ask why anyone want such friction. Well, by using damper pedals start to feel "heavy" as in real aircraft, fast changes in direction are harder to do - as in real aircraft and therefore it is harder to "overshoot the enemy" in a dogfight. Helicopter anti torque pedals are A LOT BETTER SIMULATED with damper and centering spring detatched on pedals, Airliner simulator also benefit of hydraulic feel as in real aircraft. So this lead me to conclusion... if you can afford it - use damper on your pedals
Already replied to THOR : just visual thing, no difference at all. Maybe on some Crosswinds damper can rub against vertical side and therefore it is better to install over the center
@@MFGCrosswind thank you for the reply! sorry didn't see that question from thor. recently bought the damper and love it! sorry if you mentioned it, but any change we may be seeing damper kit for the toe brakes?
@@Eddy3443 I tested dampers for toe brakes and effect is very small, therefore we won't sell those dampers for brakes as I see no real benefit of using it
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D4rmZleN050.html The screw wobbles a little when everything is assembled, does that mean that I have not tightened enough?
I thought I was the only one... Drow me nuts, as it made helicopter flying quite a pain due to some strange stickiness. I've tried to reassemble, change clamp position ect but nothing works except for 23 settings.
In contrary to what is said on MFG website the Retrokit is not compatible with V3. It is missing one screw (Din912 M8x40) that is needed for installation. When I asked for the missing screw I was told to go and buy it myself.
It IS compatible !!! You just need to install it as if your pedals are V1 or V2. If you want to install it like on V3 pedals THEN 1X M8X40 screw need to be purchased....but you should check engraving on your pedals before purchase to determine if your pedals are V3 or not - or if your pedals have those two holes with nut inside for damper installation. Retrofit Kit is correctly named as V1/2 but in description it also state that you can install it on V3 pedals WHICH IS TRUE
You can also just add in the description that the V1/V2 kit is not compatible without additional, non included hardware, with the V3 pedals. That’ll save you having to include an extra bolt on the off chance someone mistakenly orders the V1/V2 instead of the V3 kit. Thanks for thinking of us early customers. I bought serial#12, last one of the first production batch on July 29 2013. Still going strong!
