Any new fascinating hobby gets me hyperfocused, and time just stops existing. And I forgot so many things because of this, even appointments, a few times... That's why I always set an alarm when I have to do something I don't want to forget... But I love hyperfocus, I can learn so much when it happens ! Thank you Jenny ! This video was perfect ! Right now, I'm just focusing on surviving a heatwave... Have a lovely day !

I tend to get hyperfocused on a few things. I just get so frustrated with myself because I get in phases where I virtually dont take care of the house or anything when totally in this mode. I wish I could be better about managing my time an dhouse life.

After burnout I experienced problems getting intense hyperfocus. I tend to lose my concentration and get distracted and anxious. Anyone else experiencing this ? Hyperfocus is one of the superpowers in autism.

I work as a project manager. I enjoy when I am able to hyperfocus on tasks related to the projects I am involved with. However, unnecessary interruptions can cause me to tailspin to the point I zone out and do nothing while I try to transition back to what I was doing. I've tried over and over to tell people asking me a simple question while I am working on something can cause a delay of 15 to 30 minutes. I might try a new tactic of just getting up and going to our cafeteria after they ask me their question and I answer it.

I can imagine. If you can find a quiet place to go. Tell them when you are in "hyperfocus mode" greatness is happening....they will have to wait!😀

Hi Jenny. My wife has the almost daily challenge of trying to break into my little world when she tries to tell me something while I'm in the middle of reading something or watching a youtube video. I almost always have to ask her to start over again from the very beginning even though she may be 10 words into her story as nothing is registering in my mind until I am able to change my focus from what I am doing to what she wants to tell me. She is pretty good about it and we can joke about my autistic traits such as this.

😂that just happened to me 30 minutes ago with my son. It's nice when the people in our lives can be understanding about it. :)

Oh yes, poor cat often gets frustrated when I ignore her staring on my laptop screen😅 Like watching this video. But I just let her try my vegan Magnum ice cream (just the vanilla without the chocolate and almonds of cause) and it was very funny as she obviously liked it but had to pause with a face like "whoo, that is...COLD"🤣 To live alone makes it much easier to stay in the hyperfocus-mode. But yeah, unfortunatly nobody reminds You of eating something or go to bed before morning. Just to fill their food bowl, clean up their toilet several times a day or meow-screaming paws on keyboard "CUDDLES! IMMEDEATLY, HUMAN😾! It´s good to have a cat-reminder.

My immersion story - I am at a music store with my friend who drove us there. I start playing an instrument and am so immersed into the practice that the next thing I know, my buddy is tapping me on my shoulder with anger. He thought I was disrespectful of his time. About 45 minutes have elapsed, but to me it feels like five. I don't know how to explain myself; I am just as surprised as he is. I apologize, and life continues...

I get it....for sure. Does he know you are autistic? People just don't seem to understand it. The way he viewed your actions and what they actually were....were two different things. Do you have any autistic friends?

Hi, Jenny. Well, I didn't know I was autistic yet. I was still running on shame when forgetting all about the time. Not now. Thanks to channels about autism, like yours, I have less fear of being ashamed by that. I share my autism journey with everyone I know in hopes that some of them will get diagnosed for themselves, among other reasons. No friends with autism that I know of. Digital friendship, definitely.❤️ How about you? Did you have any autistic friends before your diagnosis?

It's a wonder I get anything done. I can spend days catching up on the stuff I avoided or forgot about because I was engrossed in a task I wanted to get done. The struggle is very real. I have started to aim to get one thing done a day as well as the usual things I only seem to be able to complete in the very early morning when I know there will be no interruptions and I can 100% on the jobs that need to be done before the kids get up and need to get to school. I've given up trying to remember taking my meds because what's the point, I give up. I seem unable to complete further house tasks once I've done the morning stuff which is sort of a routine that I need, but struggle to stick to. I've been gardening more lately and trying to get through emails. But I still struggle to get it all done. I can't motivate myself to pack Max's things for his school trip away next week, perhaps I will do that tomorrow while it's still too hot to be outside during the day. Great video. 😊

Isn't it that much harder when we are a parent too? NT have no idea. We have to find what works for us. Thanks for the comment....and I'm glad you enjoyed. 💕

I used to be able to focus on my poetry, but now all i can seem to focus on is england sliding in to the abyss. I dont mean rural well off places in england, i mean the cities ravaged with crime and poverty. Rubbish and uncut grass everywhere. Homeless people in city centre doorways hooked on drugs, gangs of balaclava masked youths not in education or employment ? Their parents should be ashamed. Local authorities running out of money and wasting what money they do get!! Our great national health service crumbling 😢. Vast numbers of people hooked on highly processed foods which puts more burden on the nhs. All this drains my energy . I can feel the weight of decline all around me everytime i leave my bunker🙋‍♂️

I hyper focus with my art, often, but for this video I am going to share something else. I really like to rearrange the furniture, and pictures on the wall, but most of all, I like to set up "scenes" with all of my knick knacks. I will set them up, back off to look, go back to move something, just a little bit, and so on. At Christmas, a few years ago, I spent hours and hours decorating just the mantle. Recently I have realized that what I am doing is a lot like play as a child. I had little coloured horses I would set up and move around and play with for hours. I ended up studying set design because of this "talent". I wonder if Hyper Focus is also stimming for the mind.😊❤️🙏
