Hyundai Ioniq Bluelink app. Should I install it?

In this video, I run through the features of the Hyundai Bluelink app with a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV 38kWh. When buying an Hyundai Ioniq, it isn't clear what the app actually does, so this video is to help you decide if you need to bother. We run two Ioniqs and we've not bothered to use the app. I'm only using the app on one, to see if it is causing 12V battery drains (a common issue on the Ioniq EV), but so far after a few months, I've not seeing any evidence of this.

Personally, I find the app incredibly useful. Top two features are preconditioning, so the car is defrosted and warmed (or cooled) ready to go as soon as you need it (I know you can schedule this but only useful if you keep a regular schedule, I don't) and the map. It's much easier to set a destination in the app map from the sofa, especially if based on a postcode or zeroing in on a specific location. Once found, send it to the car ready for the off.

I have Bluelink for my Ioniq, and while it's useful for vehicle status, I only used it the week I had the car, now I don't really bother.

I use my app every day to preheat the car. Being able to get into the car with 21° C instead of freezing temperatures is just indescribably nice.

I must admit, I miss having the flexibility of the app since moving jobs and parting company with my Mach e. For me the best advantage was defrosting from my bed on a frosty morning.

I have a Kia Soul EV. It has the same app as in this video. Like others have said, I love it for the remote heating but also for the notifications. One other thing that is useful is valet mode. It stops anyone who services the car etc from seeing personal info in the infotainment system.

I can see why most of the app functions would be less interesting after a few weeks but for me surely in colder weather the ability to preheat the car before you get in it from the comfort of your home is a brilliant feature? I can see myself preheating my car on a day like today January, 5c, ten minutes before I leave so the car is warm and I don't need my gloves for the freezing cold steering wheel!

Really?? I love the app and use it regularly to either precondition, send satnav destination from the app to the car. Check lock, range etc etc. I like to switch on the defrost settings on finishing work so the car is all defrosted and warm for me arriving at it. Great app!

My App keeps displaying the range in Kilometres, even though I've changed the settings in the app. Does anyone know what i might need to do to get the app to display the range in miles?

I've used the nissan leaf app since 2017 and the kona app, the only thing I use it for is warming it up in the winter

We use both the Hyundai app and the Kia equivalent all the time, in fact we used the remote function this morning to defrost the car. The notifications are useful for keeping track of charging, so I’ve used it when I’m on a public charger to go move the car off the charger when it’s finished rather than block the charger unnecessarily.

Having an app was one of the main factors when I was choosing an EV. It was one of the reasons I wanted an EV! No more scraping ice off the windows or getting into a boiling hot car.

This helped me make up my mind between the 2019 and 2020 models. The app was the biggest reason I was leaning towards the 2020 but it does not seem worth it. 2019 all the way!

Wouldn't want to be without the app for pre-heating and pre-cooling not to mention I can see when my wife's coming home! I'd literally just come out of the app when your video popped up! It had notified me "car unlocked" which meant she'd just arrived at her mum's or is just leaving. Not sure which until I go into the "maps" facility which will tell me where the car is. Never get tired of it...but I am a new ev owner! Also have dreadful memory and never know if I've locked it or not .

I find the app for my BMW i3 useful for defrosting the car before leaving for work in the morning. Great video as always!

Matt, I seem to recall you had an inactive charger after a software update last year? If I had plugged in my car and not noticed a charger malfunction I would be screwed for work next morning; the ability to check my car's battery status, from my bed, before I go to sleep is therefore priceless. I'm new to the EV owners club an look for any way to limit range/charge anxiety at the moment.

It's very handy in the winter to pre heat car before I drive it, no waiting to defrost.

I found the App useful for the items you talked about and I also found the trip information for keeping track of business and private mileage. And another good one is teh ability to send destinations to teh sat nav ready for teh net day or trip. And I beleive the app operates free for 5 years. Also when my son was driving the car the low jack was handy, I could tell if he was speeding or not🤣🤣

I mainly use it for the sat nav, I like entering a destination into the sat nav from the comfort of my living room the night before. And checking SOC.
