I so love your videos, as a retired 71 year old telecoms engineer, it’s so inspiring to see such down to earth practical skills you demonstrate and hopefully encouraging the next generation, we need more of this in the UK so we don’t lose our engineering heritage. Keep up the good work.

Great design - who would have thought that aluminium boxes would be the ideal solution. You may want to consider a weatherproof ( rain proof ) cover for your boxes & trailer as your beloved boxes have so many holes to let rain and road spray into them. A tarpaulin cover should work

An extra detail that's really smart in this stage of the project is that the handles for the drawers are spring-loaded so they won't be flopping around and rattling when the cart is in transit. Sure, everything *else* inside might be noisy and jostling around, but the handles will always lay flush and stay put. It's just one nice extra touch.

I love your ingenuity when you have a problem. Your ideas and workarounds are top notch! Can't wait to see this get finished. Also, please, please, please wear eye protection and a dust mask when using your grinder even with aluminium. Those little particles can do BIG damage.

I'm newer to the channel, so I'm probably late to notice things. Having the sizes and shapes (Philips' head vs. flathead) engraved or painted on the handles so they are easy to see is just absolutely genius!

I love the build! I would strongly consider putting some friction or locking fids on the drawers if they don't have an integrated positive lock. Sailboats have this problem where they will lean over in the wind and drawers will fly open, so they all have a locking fid (usually just a tab of wood or metal) that turns to lock a drawer in, and pivots up to allow the drawer to open.

@MrWorth66

if you want to make the workshop part removable, the only way i can think of right now is to make fold down out riggers that pick it up of the cart. I'm assuming you can engineer a system that folds down the 4 legs separately but then screw or hydraulically lifts all 4 corners at the same time. Excited to see what you come up with.

Some of my favorite builds are the ones that have those details that you mentioned in the outro. The gaps in the wood supports to pass a strap through; the nylon loops at the bottom to be able to anchor down the top modules; the black worktop with the holes to be able to use the clamps. Every single detail was thought about and it all feels very *Intentional*. That's what makes this build one of my favorites! I look forward to every video you release!

You should try sourcing like a gurney for the mobile part of the workbench, easy to take on and off the trailer. Or maybe look at how the wheels and undercarriage fold out and retract and try building one from scratch :)
@Mueller3D
@Mueller3D Год назад
I thought of that too. She just needs wheel brackets that flip open with springs. When on the trailer, they hinge toward the center against spring pressure. When pulled out, the springs flip the brackets down and toward the end, going over center a bit in order to firmly sit and not be likely to fall back down if you hit a bump while pushing it. If designed right, the wheels can also protrude a bit when folded in order to allow rolling on and off of the trailer. You could also have the rear bracket sit on a swiveling "truck" to allow steering it (like a toy wagon).

Wow! Laura you did such an amazing job! I was noticing something. What if u put like just some rods, across the aluminium box or something, so that the top plastic box can sit on top of, to be pulled individually a little easier. Because it seams the holes, on the aluminium box, line up perfect for that.
@ffmftw

Hi Laura, great project! Please do not forget to secure the drawers. When loaded, they could open in corners. Perhaps pull locks would be a good idea. Have a look at Southco for that. There are also versions that can be locked against thefts. You might consider that since they are fixed at the trailer which will be used and sometimes parked public. Herzliche Grüße nach Köln!
