Dave, thank you so much for bringing JM to the spotlight!! JM, you have been an inspiration for me for years. At first, I admired you as an athlete...but then, you were my gateway to mindfulness and spirituality. First, it started as focus for competition...focus and mindfulness over getting amped and putting on the theatrics. Then, it spilled over into the rest of my life. This mental strength has allowed me to overcome terrible events in my life, events that I truly believe would have killed me otherwise. Thank you so much for making yourself available for both podcasts, and now even training and bio videos!
tGreat shit to see JM on the team. Makes me love EliteFTS even more. The podcasts are such an invaluable resource, especially the ones with JM. I try to buy through as much as i can through EliteFTS, even chalk and ammonia, just for the resources you guys provide.
the mental game is most important to me. its why i like to lift. its why i like to test my endurance. its why i like to spend time in nature. and its why i listen to all these talks from people who are way beyond my level.
The old school guys just never seem to steer you wrong. That's why I keep coming back to videos with JM, Dave Tate and Scott Mendelson. No bullshit whatsoever, just what you need to know.
There’s no such thing as mr miyagi. Every “guru” is fallible. No matter how good they are they have things that need to be challenged. And almost everyone is too afraid to do that.
Yes and no. He was a "black sheep" because he trained in other gyms and Louie accepted him in there just because his bench was so strong. This pissed off the other members. You were either with Westside or you weren't. On another note, Louie actually liked JM and is the guy who first started calling JM's press "The JM Press".
At my gym last night, I saw an older trainer teaching a young trainee the JM Press. 💪🏾 I have not seen anyone do that press, in a commercial gym, in 6 months. I may need to change gyms. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
@@phantomcreamer Yeah Man, it was the Trainer. He is older like myself. So I knew what he had the client doing as soon as I saw it. Others had no idea what h was showing the client.🤷🏾♂️ Lol 💪🏾
JM question, because you spoke about the mind and it’s importance. Do you think mental preparedness like (general physical preparedness), could be mentally going through the workout in your mind, or maybe it’s some I am affirmations?
He wouldn't say he's disappointed. He'd say "now what happened there, and how do we fix it?" in his soft cadence and you'd feel both comforted and motivated
Great video, but am I the only one who felt that the music doesn't fit a JM Blakley video? I get content editors feel we need background noise because most speakers are boring, but when it comes to JM, he could read the back of a shampoo bottle and be riveting
Can you even say that? If he would never squat, or deadlift, is he a powerlifter? It’s not like he was a specialist who excelled at one, and spent time doing one lift meets.
He said he cant do lower body because he had back injury, so maybe this is why he didnt advocate leg drive in the bench press. Just get tight & rigid on the lower body while bench pressing
I see you’ve never been to Westside Barbell 😂 a lot of those guys are thugs, or were back in the day. Powerlifting is everything to them & they’ll fight you if you don’t ‘fit in’ with their plans of success. They basically fight each other every day in the gym anyway.
The guy that ALOT of the guys hate because, he doesnt go out or drink, or smoke, or party. The guy that every talks shit about. But can walk up to a bench and won't get up until hes finished after hes put on 5 or more plates. Jm. I guess I'm the black version of JM. I remember someone randomly talking shit to me and my mom, my mom; we were doing standing overhead press. He had some random woman with him. He stopped at 275 on bench. My mom did 130 lb standing overhead press. I did 305 on standing overhead press. My mom was nodding at me to check out the woman watching doing my set. The guy, he got pissed off started screaming at the woman that was with him to go somewhere else. We spent most of the workout in the squat rack. Did some accessories with dragging the girl around to watch us workout. The woman came over and apologized for her asshole friend. Gave props to my mom and said shes impressed with both of us. She also said her boyfriend was jealous, of both of us.
