I would've liked to have seen what Ridley Scott and Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1997 I AM LEGEND would be like if it hadn't been cancelled due to the budget costs.

Love the book and my favorite adaptation is the first one because it follows it more closely. It is the one that should be called “I am Legend”. The title makes no sense in the 2007 film.

i guess he is a legend because he managed to make a cure to safe the people, but yeah it's still not a great adaptation
@zennyspent

2007? The title absolutely applies. He's still a lethal nightmare for the infected. Their diminished mental faculties don't prevent them from knowing who is trapping, kidnapping, or outright killing their people. To the other point, the title can definitely be a double meaning, as he will certainly be regarded as a legend by humanity for finding the cure. I'm curious to know the reasons behind thinking that the title doesn't fit.

The ending of the story is just iconic. It is sad they did not carry that over to this film. The first half of the film is excellent, but IMO, it falls apart after the dog dies.

They should have named the movie something else since it has absolutely no likeness to the original story other than the names. I agree the ending to the story is iconic. It's thought provoking and ironic. The ending to this movie is incredibly dumbed down. They could've named ANYTHING else and it would have been a just ok movie, inspired by I Am Legend.

I feel about this the way I feel about The Poseidon Adventure VS Poseidon (Kurt Russell). They are the same subject but a different adaptation. Though Poseidon could never touch the original, It was a great altered adaptation and I love it too. Same with I am Legend. there is just nothing that can touch Charlton Heston's version. It is just a piece of cinema history untouchable, as most are from that era. BUT that doesn't mean I cannot love the "newer different take" on the same basic story that is I am Legend. Just like the 2 Poseidon adaptations mentioned, I like the earlier ones more but also love the newer ones. The Omega Man just can't be touched.

I had to pretend the Movie wasn't trying to claim being connected to the novel, much as I did with I, Robot, before I could enjoy it for what it was. Hollywood schlock, but entertaining. The Novel is a masterpiece, and I would kill to have a modernized Film or Miniseries that was faithful to the core and spirit, even if not a 1 for 1 adaptation.

The mannequin scene is one of my favorite scenes of any movie. It’s a horrifying scene that has much meaning. Will Smiths acting is fucking amazing. His train of thought immediately goes to “did it movie by it self” then to “it’s a setup”. Very scary stuff.

Love all 3 Films but as you mentioned, my first introduction to R. Nevel was also the Omega Man, I remember seeing it in grade school while decorating Easter egg's. But currently I watch Last Man on Earth the Cinema Insomnia Valentines EP each year & in short order Omega Man & I am Legend & Soylent Green just can't get enough of Mr. Heston...m.❤🎉

@glennwelsh9784 Год назад
As far as the adaptations go, I prefer The Last Man On Earth for its faithfulness to the original story. The Omega Man felt "too 70's" for my taste, and I wasn't a fan of how much the Will Smith movie alters the story's ending and its meaning. Plus, it seemed way too super-convenient how Will Smith's Robert Neville was a military virologist who also just happened to be immune to the virus.

Ever since I was a kid, I've had the "last man on Earth" fantasy. I'm anti-social. So having free reign of the planet is like a dream come true. In reality though, I'd spend all my time maintaining quality of life, with no time to enjoy it. Need some helper bots first. Safety anxeities aside, I would make a great space explorer.

Here's an idea for a future WTF Happened to This Adaptation? Wolfgang Petersen's *"POSEIDON 2006"* Originally - much like the *"CARRIE"* 2013 remake - the initial cut of the second remake of *"THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE"* was 25 minutes longer than its final cut, at a length of 123 minutes. 20 minutes of said deleted footage involved character scenes at the beginning before the rogue wave struck the ship on New Year's Day. Sadly, no Extended Cut of the film has ever been released as Wolfgang Petersen saw the 98 minute Theatrical Cut as his preferred Director's Cut.

The book is definitely one of the most haunting sci-fi horror stories ever written. Although “Hell House” is scarier IMO, I’d never not recommend the vampire classic Matheson penned. On the movie front, the Omega Man is a fun time capsule of the ‘70s and its changes aren’t bad, just kinda goofy. The ‘07 version I’ve never really liked, but I don’t hate it. I’m kinda biased on the ‘64 film since I’m a huge Vincent Price fan (thanks Mom 😂)

What's ironic is that Will Smith turned down the opportunity to play Superman, saying that he learned from the failure of The Wild Wild West that "you don't mess with white people's heroes", yet he goes and plays a white character named Robert Neville In I Am Legend.
