Yeah, not everybody wants emulation. Many people want authentic hardware. So, no. You didn't buy a portable gamecube, you just bought a PC powerful enough to pretend to be a Gamecube. There is a big difference. This was handmade by someone who actually has a passion for gaming. the hardware and the retro community. This is far cooler and more interesting than a person who buys something just so they can cringey youtube comments. But sure, act superior for owning a mass produced brick that's really good at playing make-believe. Even my phone can emulate GC, you don't see me bragging.
@@PloopChute that's exactly the point. This is a $500 waste of space. You can play gc on just about anything these days. To pay $500 for a chopped up wii board in a shitty 3d printed case is just ridiculous. I'm not bragging about my handheld I was pointing out the ridiculousness of this as a purchase. Also news flash my guy this thing is technically emulation as well LMAO.
My Samsung Galaxy S23 runs gamecube games in HD through emulation. All I need is a backbone and my phone is more portable than both the Steamdeck and the portable Gamecube.
Steam deck: Can play any game, up to the switch and almost any PC game Cut down GameCube motherboard in bad 3d printed shell: Can’t even use the GB player
This is a prebuilt Ashida portable GameCube which you can build yourself. So if your handy with building things, then it could be a fun project and probably cost you around £300
@@TKIvanovbecause it wasnt supposed to just be up for sale to buy, most people in the portable console modding community just want a project to work on
@@TKIvanov lol no, the benefit is that you get to make it yourself. like if all you care about is cost a niche custom built gamecube isn't for you anyway, just get a steamdeck and some emulators instead....
I fear TechTubers such as him when they touch on a very niche tech communities, such as portable home consoles makes them look bad. Ironically LTT's coverage on Noah's portable Wii (G-Boy) was much more respectable IMO.
It’s pretty ironic. I remember seeing these portable consoles as early as 2011-12 (back when NES & SNES portables were the easiest to make at the time, before portabilizing Wii’s got as easy as they did) but I was a kid so I could only dream of ever having one. Now that I’m an adult & I’m in a position where I could get one of these, albeit with months and months of saving up, there’s so many better options & honestly playing consoles on the go isn’t that much of a need let alone a want for me anymore.
More the point of just buy X, is that there are devices for cheaper, that run Game Cube better, with better ergonomics, whilst also doing 101 other things really well. . I like portable handhelds. This just isn’t even remotely close to good value
Around Christmas time, I actually don't make any of my purchases without knowing 100% that child labor was involved. Something about knowing there were tiny elf-like hands piecing together my electronics really brings in that Christmasy feeling.
@@Ceezy223.ps portal is lowkey pretty good. I just hope people don’t buy it thinking it’s something else. It’s just a nice portable screen to do some casual gaming in bed if someone else is using the tv or you don’t wanna go to your setup. Also as far as portable gaming things go, it has the best ergonomics out of everything I have ever tried. The switch sucks steam deck sucks they all suck because your hands can’t comfortably grip the things. It’s like those fins California makes people put on guns so they can’t wrap there thumb fully around the pistol grip. It definitely has its audience. Hell I just finished a run on Elden ring with my phone cause I didn’t wanna go sit in the living room at 3 am. Would’ve been nicer with the portal or a backbone instead of having my phone awkwardly placed on my dick
i remember my homemade portable gamecube! had the gamecube hooked up to a DVD player with AV inputs, was especially great for the car. miss those days!
my experiences with returns or refunds were pretty much perfect. granted I never bought a 500 dollar custom console on there but whenever I had any issues the sellers just replaced any products that were defective for free (didn't even have to return them) and if the item just didn't arrive or something than AliExpress just refunded me.
I remember back in like 08 you'd daydream about this kind of thing and look at bad renders online of a potential gaming future that we are now in and take completely for granted (At least I do Im still out here just playing runescape)
it is too expensive but alot of you are missing the point of it yeah you can buy a steam deck for cheaper and get more out of it but thats not original hardware and you dont get 100% compatibility in dolphin, this does plus you have the original ergonomics of the gamecube itself
I love the product and all, but one question. What about it being 3D printed makes it better? Everyone praises 3D printed things and im not sure why. 3D printing generally is pbvious by looking and a printer cant mass produce anything well enough to make a profit at a fair price. Not dissing anybody. I legitimately want to know what makes a 3D printed item great if it can be made otherwise. I understand there are some things that can only be done on a 3D printer, but this would look better if it was made in a silicone mold. The whole thing would be smoother and the seem would be much less noticeable. Not to mention it would take less time and you could reuse the mold to make more in even less time than that. 3D printing is great, but I personally dont see the point on most of it.
3d printing is a fad for people pretending to be creaters. the truth is 3d printed products look like absolute shit because most of the people making these products dont even know how to sand them and finish them or paint them properly
@@ebs777 not to sound cliche, bur I was really hoping I wasn't the only one who noticed some issues. I would like to have one. I just wouldn't use like everyone else does. Maybe to make replacement parts for things. Parts I can't buy without getting some kind of kit. Yet I'd still be trying other methods a lot of the time.
A friend and I are currently building one ourselves. The materials are pretty cheap, we spent somewhat between 120-150€ (3d printer not counted in since we already have one. We are 6h into the build and only about half way through. So yes, 500 bucks is absolutely fair.
These builds were cool around 4-5 years ago, but portable emulators have gotten so good (and so cheap), that these are essentially obsolete now. Especially for the price.
If My Faction had a story instead of just matches and allowed CAWs to be featured and for you to freely customize your Faction's Logos, Backgrounds, etc (outside of what they give you to put together, i.e. Custom Logos), then I think it might attract more people to the mode. I think WWE 2K Players basically see it as a Card Collecting Mode with just playing Exhibition Matches. We have WWE SuperCard for card collecting. Also, with how it cuts to matches and doesn't have entrances at all is a little bit of a drag. I'd rather have the option to watch or skip at my convenience. As of now, i tend to only login to the mode when there's a code that needs to be entered or if I'm wasting some time.
The 3D printed shell leaves a bit to be desired. I’d see if you can figure out a way to get the specs for printing a new one and maybe hire someone that’s actually good at 3D printing to make you a new one (don’t ask me how). Just a thought though. Besides that, and if you can look past it, it looks cool.
I wonder if you can pop it open and solder in the port for the motion sensor bar. I guess it would depend how much room is inside it. Then you could just play Wii games on it. The 2.4ghz receiver is central on the board I think, so unless they did some really weird hacking and slashing of the board, you can just load in wii games. Bam. Portable wii.
Idk man i get a lot of people like the "retro" feel of these novelty devices, but being that we now have entered into the era of full on mobile gaming with power only before seen on PCs, you have to ask the question, is it even worth it anymore? Like this is just like taking a step backward in evolution.
I will only buy it if they 1) fix the screen, 2) allow me, the consumer, to open it and replace the yellow C-stick with the gray GameCube joystick, and 3) reduce the price from $500 to $200!
For that price it better use authentic Nintendo parts. With so many other cheap ways to emulate gc,(which is what this thing is doing as well) this seems the most expensive… The only perks I see this for ME are its portability and gc style button layout. GC are kinda niche, so idk if that’d work for me for 500-900 bucks
Ngl If we were going for emulation then this could’ve been way way cheaper cuz $500 for a GC handheld emulator is craaaazy. Should’ve forgotten about using an actual GC motherboard and then just done something custom for emulation
