Most of the time it will happen when you start the truck when it’s on an incline. On the Tundra forum guys have figured out a sequence of button pushes while turning truck on/off works pretty good for reset.

Haha, no, my lease was up on the Tacoma and they had better deals on the Tundra right now. Man it's a nice truck. More options than my Tacoma had but not over the top like the Platinum or Capstone.

The bump stop looking things in the wheel wells up front are crash protectors to keep or help keep the tires/wheels from coming in the passenger compartment.

I think that nub in the wheelwell is to prevent the tire from going into the cab in the overlap crash test. I could be wrong, though. That's just what I've heard on the internet. Great truck! Congrats! :)

the weird bump in the frame is likely an intrusion support to keep the wheel from pushing through the firewall in the event it takes a hard suspension impact.

I got a 2023 and have the predator steps too. I got the Smoked Mesquite color but my Nephew has the red. Very nice truck. Did they give you the TRD skid plate with that one? The latest recall is very controversial and it's easy to get sucked into the hype. I think leasing it was a good move but still the recall may be a bit overblown with only actually 850 or so units actually failing. I've had zero problems with mine so far and it is not part of the recall.

Very nice! I do not have the skid plate, might add it though just for the looks. No hardcore off-roading planned. Yeah, the internet is filled with people who drive their mom’s mini van spewing stuff they know nothing about. I have leased a few Toyota Trucks now, they always gain value and it has worked out well. I will see at the end of the lease based on what’s available at that time and also Any issues if they do happen. Don’t think they will. :)

This is my third one now. The equity they gain really makes it easy to decide for me. Each time I’ve had over $4,000 toward the next truck. Basically the down payment. I really enjoy the technology with each trade in. Some don’t and that’s fine. But I like it. Lane guidance and smart cruise, back up detection, start stop and the 17.5 mpg in town also. See what it does on the high way over the holiday. :)

Also, those bump outs on the frame. If you can believe an engineer friend of mine (sober at the time), believes those are designed to keep the wheels from getting into the occupant area of the truck. In a head on collision, they'll push the wheels outside the truck, instead of them folding up under the truck, possibly jamming the doors and making exiting worse.

For my own peace of mind , if I were you, I would remove the oil filter and cut it open and look for any metal in the filter pleats, if none, you're good to go, if there are some, then you have reason to be concerned about bearing damage.

The only issue would be that the oil passes thru the filter before it goes to the mains and rods. But I do plan on having a look between 500 and 1,000 miles for the first service.

Yeah, it could be. I know they are coated inside and out and hopefully it won't be an issue. I know they are the only brand to stand behind rusty frames even though they rust from every single brand. I've replaced a couple and have seen a hundred that should be replaced or scrapped and being in Florida I can't imagine what they are doing in NY nowadays. Thanks

Be ready. Use your odometer for fuel. Your fuel gauge will malfunction a default to full or 3/4 and be stuck. Good luck.

I was concerned when the EcoBoost came out, but after seeing so many with 250,000 and even 275,000 miles. I’m much less concerned nowadays. Maintenance is the key, 5,000 mile Oil changes for one.

My trd off road has some sort of plastic skid plate up front that doesn’t even cover the front diff. I have a 22 Tacoma trd off road and it still has the steel skids up front (2 of them). I believe the 4th Gen Tacoma still has steel skids as well.

The lease deals can vary, but you basically pay the depreciation and if you decide to keep it you have first option to buy it for the remaining value. All in the contract when you first lease it. So it costs no extra and the only downside is stretching out the payments over a longer period. But if you have problems and something you prefer comes out three years down the road you can trade in and get equity credit if there is any at that time. But the value won't go below the contracts stated buy out. Hope that makes sense. I think it's great for someone who usually gets a new vehicle often, doesn't drive lots of miles each year, but not the way to go for someone who keeps a vehicle 10-15 years.

I have heard and looked into it. They had 824 issues out of 400,000 trucks. It is a problem, but not nearly what the internet makes it to be. They always stand behind their product in my experience.

Yes Tom, I got about $5500 off. But my son in law is the sales director at the dealership, so not sure how all that changes outside the family, haha. I know they do have some discounts popping up with all sales slowing nationwide a little for every brand and model.

My 2024 Tundra Platinum fuel gauge errors. Still not fixed. Was same in my 2022. Toyota says no fix yet. 3 years now. Run out of gas on the highway and see how safe you think you can steer a stalled 65 mph truck to the shoulder. Good luck. Accident waiting to happen. My truck yesterday showed 3/4 tank when I actually have 1/4 tank.

Just a sincere question... Why would you drive so long if you know it has a bad fuel gauge? A simple thing would be to count milage instead of relying on a faulty fuel gauge. That's the pilot in me though. Never go by the gauge, go by distance (hours if flying) if it's not reading correctly. It's not the trucks fault if it runs outta gas 😅

@@GWN_GarageI agree with you. I do use my odometer since 2022 when I determined the gauges were faulty. But the point is I have worked with Toyota for 3 years and 2 trucks and the engineers still can’t fix this simple system on a $70k truck. Another thing as you know is the lack of communications with HQ Toyota not telling all these owners to go by your suggestion until a fix is in place-why no communications? Just like the failing engines, a stalked vehicle can cause a crash.

Sorry you’re having trouble with that. I have not heard of this issue in the shop yet. Possibly software? Manage has been very accurate so far on my last three Toyota pickups. Hope they get it sorted for you. I’d use Trip A for the time being.

The Tundra only has a turbo V6 available, with Hybrid as an option. I believe the base models have a slightly lower power version of the same engine.

Haha I understand that. It’s how I feel about Blue. The payload is 1670 and towing is 12,000 lbs. I’d feel comfortable up to about 8,000 myself.

Yeah, we will see. The failures are at 824 right now of 400,000 sold since 2022. So I have good odds at least, also a lifetime drivetrain warranty.

I drove junkers most of my career, as I've aged I done well and prefer not to work on my own transportation on weekends. So the past 6 years or so I've driven new trucks...But I did wait 36 years in the profession to start doing that. ;)
