I loved working with the “old” techs early in my career. One time we had an efficiency team come in and interview every employee and they suggest changes. I got all worked up about it, but Jim the old tech said man, don’t worry about all that crap. He said to play the long game. It ended up that all we could tell is we got a smaller dumpster. Haha, Jim was right. The old guys didn’t get excited about anything. He had been down that road too many times before! Much respect to the “old” guys.

lol, that is so true. Efficiency teams and business advisors are good at one thing and one thing only. Taking money the employees should be getting paid and running a business into the ground with corporate nonsense. It's why so many big repair chains always go bankrupt. They put money first and think short term.

That's an easy one Jimmy. The rear brake pads on that Cadillac went in easier because you cleaned off all the rust & dirt with the wire brush & file. I personally don't grease the top side of the hardware is because it becomes a brake & road dust collector. I will grease under the hardware to help prevent rust from forming & pushing up on the pads. I also file the ears of the brake pads flat because there is often a ridge on them.

What is it in FL with used engines having oil leaks this week. Rainman Ray's drop a video today "Junkyard Engine Leak Warranty? Chrysler Dodge 3.6" He charged for repair and talks about it at 40ish minutes in.
@JimmyMakingitwork
@JimmyMakingitwork 11 дней назад
Yeah, it’s fairly Common with a used engine. We usually advise People to do things like valve cover, rear main seal or anything easier while it’s apart, but it adds to an already expensive repair. But then when it has an oil leak, everyone is sad. Almost like we should decline to do repairs as cheaply as possible.
@mph5896
@mph5896 11 дней назад
Salvage yard does not warranty against oil leaks. Breaking it down to a long block and resealing a used engine is an option. But people would rather cross their finger and play the blame game when problems pop up later on.

Would a few oil flushes work on that Infiniti? I've seen some guys on RU-vid use like diesel fuel or that miracle oil on really old junkyard cars and then it frees it up. But this isn't as bad as those. Maybe do like 5 oil changes every 1000 miles?

Morning sir! Glad it’s Friday. As always the commentary is great. We have a 22 CRV purchased 11/22 currently has 13,200 miles on it. 6/17 it had its third oil change! I do them every 6 months. Most everyone says do it yearly. I look at it in this light. It’s turbocharged, it runs very short distances. Like 10 to 14 miles, very little highway miles. We are 69 and 70 and do not plan on buying another car. So I would rather go a little over board to cut down on oil contaminants. Have a great weekend.

I wonder if using vavoline restore after an oil flush would help the Infiniti. How would the VW problem go in court
@JimmyMakingitwork
@JimmyMakingitwork 12 дней назад
It might, not sure. Certainly worth a try. This customer attempted to defraud the insurance company by waiting a year after buying the vehicle to make an engine claim, but the company realized the mileage hadn't changed. Then he signed a contract that gave him 30 days warranty on the engine with no warranty against oil leaks, or other external engine parts, like water pumps or hoses. If he opted for the reman or crate engine he would have had 3 years 36,000 miles warranty.

I'll bet at the end of the day everyone in the shop celebrated the firing of the VW customer with adult beverages. 🎉🍻 When you go to any major retailer it is difficult to find products that are made in the USA. Consumers want reasonable prices and corporations want maximum profit. China is all too happy to oblige. I actually get excited when I see a product made elsewhere other than China. As far as engines are concerned, many of today's engine designs are ticking time bombs. The timer starts the moment you drive the new vehicle off the lot. In many cases installing a used engine amounts to installing nothing more than a hand grenade. The manufacturers expect that once you pay the loan off, you return to the dealer to purchase another disposable vehicle.
