The one thing that is still steel and rots out quickly are the running boards ! You might have to wait until spring but ... 1) Drill some drain holes in the running boards 2) Rinse the inside out with a pressure washer 3) Wait for a couple of warms days to let the inside dry then spay inside with Fluid Film until it drips out 4) While you have the Fluid Film out, spray the bolts holding the shocks, the tie rod adjuster, the parking brake adjuster, caliper and bracket bolts. Drop the spare tire and spray the entire mechanism and both sides of the spare tire wheel. Do this once a year, and you will be happy when you have to deal with them !!

Hi Matt! A piece of advice for you...get the biggest mud flaps you can find and put them on your front fenders (you already have good ones on the rear). Get the ones that are so wide they'll keep all the slop and salt from flinging up on your front fenders, doors and rocker panels. Hopefully that'll provide a bit more protection against our lovely rust belt. Also, in your copious amounts of spare time, design yourself two pressurized water spray bars that are capable of spraying the underside of the truck. It WILL pay off in the long run. Good luck!!

We live in the semi desert in Western Queensland (Australia) and have 4 Toyotas. One of them is 40 years old and has over 720,000 on the clock. Rust does not happen in the semi desert, but not having anything but gravel and dirt roads for 60 miles, we specialize in wrecking tyres and suspensions! We don't have your towing requirements and have stuck with Toyotas for reliability, and because we can usually fix them. With the nearest dealers 150 miles away, sophisticated electronics can be a pain as they are for you. Different environments different requirements, but we still learn a lot from you and guys like Wes from Fulton IL. Many thanks.

Scorpion design with the exhaust feeding into the V where the turbo sits. I prefer the I6, simple,less parts. The I6 has 40% less moving parts and alot better low end torque as well. But it comes down to what you prefer. Also Ford has two cooling systems. I'll bet Ford comes out with a new I6 in the future. The 300 was a workhorse. That is correct. 7.3 and 6.0 were HEUI which were a marvel in 1994 when first introduced. Cat/International developed them. 6.4 was the only International engine that Ford used that was common rail. After lawsuits against International for warranty claims Ford developed their own engine, the 6.7 Powerstroke and released it 2011, also common rail like Isuzu and Cummins. I will say, (and I can because I have owned six of these trucks and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them) it is wise to also use a quality fuel additive as the Bosch CP4 pumps need the extra lubricity that modern fuel lacks. Owner's manual? How about a spare tire? Not in most new vehicles... SMH
@uliwehner
@uliwehner Год назад
@@edpoints1127 that is because the first buyer doesn't want to pay for a tire they never use. All new cars come with road side assistance now. the next owner after say 4 years, he may want a spare tire, they can buy one. All my cars still have a wheel well for a full size tire, even if it is empty from the factory.
@edpoints1127
@edpoints1127 Год назад
@@uliwehner that's the point I was trying to make.... Spare tire extra? WTF? In my opinion, when did it become OK to NOT have a spare tire? Is the cardboard under frozen pizza going to be "extra" next? Is a cord on a TV going to be extra? Is sliced bread going to be extra? These foolish ways to make money... or supposedly save money are getting ridiculous. Never use? That's a ridiculous assumption. Do you wait until you get a cut to buy a box of bandaids? Do you wait to buy a can opener for your kitchen until you found a can that's not an easy pop top? Would you pay extra for shoelaces if they stopped including them with shoes, since a lot of people don't tie their shoes? Roadside assistance only works if you #1 have reception, and a cell phone... with a charged battery. #2 if the "service" isn't overflowing with calls during something such as a snowstorm. What would an 87 year old grandmother do if she was stuck in a snowstorm with a flat, some teenagers on snowmobiles come past and can't even change the tire since there isn't a spare tire?
@uliwehner
@uliwehner Год назад
@@edpoints1127 the reality is that the first owner does not want to fork over money for things they won't need. like back in the day stainless steel exhaust was thought about, but regular mild steel lasts 4-5 years anywhere, so original owner never needs to replace it. no incentive to pay an extra 50 or 100 bucks for stainless exhaust for the next owner. Same thing with spare tires. likelihood of you needing it during the first 4 years is super low, and you have free roadside assistance. no reason to buy a tire for the next owner. car bodies had a rust through warranty just long enough where the original owner never saw rust. No reason to pay more so the second owner does not see rust either. you could think of many more examples for this. most cars are sold before they are 4 years old.

Great video Matt you are correct the 6.7 powerstroke and the other modern trucks use common rail injection, but when you were explaining how it works, you confused it for the HEUI (hydraulic electronic unit injectors) system found in the 6.0l and 7.3l powerstrokes. Common rail uses a high-pressure fuel pump to create constant pressure in the fuel rails, and the injectors are controlled electronically. Similar to modern direct injection gasoline engines but the diesels operate at a much higher pressure. Keep up the good work, really liking the videos recently excited to you fully moved into the new shop.
@m35a2ww
@m35a2ww Год назад
Yup. Cat was the HEUI people, Navistar used it.....maybe that's why they aren't making on road stuff any more? Cummins used something similar with the STC engine, 88NT 365 + hp and N14P. Oil was used in the top half of the injector to advance injection timing at no/low load and at around 50 ish lbs of rail pressure, the oil was shut off and the engine went into nominal timing. Kind of a PITA but being in Ca. We had MVT so STC was easy!

They have a kit with a Stanadyne DCR high pressure pump now to replace the junk CP4. There's no way to make a CP4 last that I have found. My mom has a VW TDI that had one. Caught it right before it was going to send metal through the fuel system and destroy the injectors. Replaced with a CP3 conversion kit. That would be my recommendation, do the DCR pump conversion before the CP4 grenades the entire fuel system.

Congrats! You deserve that truck! As a former owner of 2 2005 6.0L, I know exactly where you are coming from. I now own a 2011 XL F350, crew cab, long bed - no options (no power locks or windows, manual transfer case shifter), I love it! and the power of the 6.7L is unbelievable (and the tow capacity)... I hope you get many years of good service out of it!

That's a nice ride and I have no doubt it's going to be a great upgrade. Does it have airbags in the seats? If so, be sure your seat covers have matching blow-out panels or they will interfere, possibly blocking entirely, with their deployment in an accident.

I have a 2015 Ram with the gray interior, and I put the Carhartt covers on the front seats the week I bought it, about 2 years ago and they are holding up amazingly. I've washed them once haha, they match the seat color perfect and people don't realize they're even covers. They think that's just the normal seats. Awesome truck and everything else you have going on. I just recently started my channel and we will see where it goes!

Hey Matt! Dont forget both fuel filters need to be changed at nearly the same interval as the oil! Save yourself some headache and get actual motorcraft ones, the aftermarket filters have not impressed me as far as a quality matchup. thats a sweet truck. i also run an 03 6.0. once i fixed all the things ford did wrong it turned into a great truck. you mentioned undercoating your new truck. personaly i would stay away from it. in my experience undercoating always causes more rust problems then it solves. go with the fluid film coating every fall and youll keep the rust off longer. make sure to get in all the doors and crevices. always enjoy your content. keep the old iron running.

Matt if you get a service bed. Use one the the boxes to put in about 4 high cranking amp batteries and some welding posts that you can plug in some major jumper cables for starting stuff. You can then wire in a hard wire plug so that you can charge batteries and stuff. You can also add a solar panel to your roof and a PWM charge controller to add extra power in while your rig is parked or when you are charging other things. The main power can come from your alternator. Someone I know had this installed in their service bed. The amount of extra power and lenght of those cables made for jumping damn near anything super easy.

Those trucks do have a common rail fuel system, however the system you described is a HEUI system that the 7.3 and 6.0 trucks used. On a common rail the fuel is brought to high pressure via a pump and all injectors have a supply of high pressure fuel at all times. Injectors are then fired electronically when the ECM commands them. On a HEUI the fuel is brought to high pressure in the injector itself. The systems are kind of similar but no high pressure oil is used in a modern common rail system.

As many 6.0 in a junk yard with bad motors and what not I bet you could find one out west that you can rob a frame from or swap you motor and trans into and keep it around as a winter truck to keep the f450 from rotting out. Just get a 5 gallon pale of fluid film and the sprayer and undercoat every fall and you won’t have as bad of a rust problem.

Beautiful truck, Matt! I’ve got an ‘11 F450 with the 6.7 and it is a brute. Will tow anything you ever ask of it. If you’re still kicking around about a flatbed, look into a skirted flatbed. Tons of lower storage. I’m pretty sure there is a place in PA that not only installs them, but can also color match

Great choice. Taylor Ray went up to a newer model for the same reasons, much more power and comfort, completely stock. His old Cummins swapped F-350 was good, but even tuned and modded only had 70% the power(and was older with fewer creature comforts). He travels a lot pulling a 5th wheel.)

I'm with you Matt, heated seats are a must, I have a damaged back and it's so good especially in winter or when it's wet. My last car you couldn't get to change the front side lights and indicators unless that is you took the front of the car off! Fortunately my new one is much easier. With regards to oil changes on my diesel it's religiously every 10,000 miles. It just means that the engines don't start chucking out black smoke. That's a nice truck, hope it gives you many years of use. Happy Christmas to you and Eva, hope you have a lovely time.

I even use it in warm weather if my hands are feeling stiff… it’s amazing.
