I bought the LARGEST FUEL CELL for my 1500hp drag truck

the 535 cubic inch turbo big block is gonna be thirsty on Race Week, so we installed the largest and best rear mounted fuel cell we could find! Of course, its gonna take a little work to get it mounted into the frame, but if you you want factory style looks and functionality, you've gotta roll up your sleeves and make it happen! Also, I try out my new (to me) Millermatic 210 Mig welder, and plus give some updates on the new shop!
Check out the full video of the abandoned shop we purchased!

You just drilled two 3" holes right? Well why don't you use the two plate scraps that came from those holes to fill the old holes? Great job too by the way. 👍

LT, I’ve been meaning to congratulate you on the new shop! I’ve been watching, but just haven’t dropped a comment til now. As for 1 hour a day on the build…I think that’s a symptom of you having your priorities set straight…family, a cash flowing shop, and then a drag truck. You’ll get there and it’ll be awesome…just pace yourself. Also, I’ll be emailing you about a project soon.

Hi LT, like your channel and the work you do on the trucks. Idea that I have to clear the bed/fuel tank is to place a reinforced rubber between the aluminum tank and steel frame might give you the clearance you need and keep dissimilar metals from corroding. Just an idea. Good luck with the new business venture. Jim

Something that would be a good idea would be to add some sort of vibration isolation between the frame and the tank. You're likely to fatigue the welded area around the mounts on the tank if you don't.

First, good luck with getting the shop fully up and running. Secondly, the lighting is a HUGE upgrade from the home garage -- that alone has greatly improved the videos. Not to mention having all the space to really film the process in better detail (like refilling the welding wire halfway through welding. 😆 ). Looking forward to more sub-projects for the U.T.

looking good, l just found your channel, from the l bought an abandoned shop video. your fuel tank mounts, it'd be a lot stronger, if you have metal plates, under the tank also, between the same plates you welded the bolts to, the weight would be spread between the area of the plates, and not just the area of the washers you put under those nuts.

I haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do with the rear mount tank for my twin-turbo Dakota RT. But while mapping everything out I came to the conclusion that I'm going to be using straps. I thought about mounting it to the frame rails but I fear with fuel slosh and frame flex that overtime eventually the welds will fatigue and either crack or start ripping holes in the tank. Not telling you what to do just sharing my opinion of what I've also thought about doing. You do really great work man.

I've been watching LT for a long time and I think I can see from this video that he's got muscle memory from working in his last home shop. Rolled the frame in and got the lift set up but continued to bend, squat, and kneel while doing most of the work. Maybe there's a good reason that I missed in the video. What say you LT? Anyway, congratulations on your achievements and best wishes for what's in your future.
@LawrenceTolman
@LawrenceTolman Год назад
I had thought about pointing this out in the video, but I couldn't lift it up too high since the axle was disconnected, and the weight of the massive big block up front would not allow it to balance properly on the lift if the front tires were raised off the ground... but also force of habit lol

The stock fuel setup on many of these 8.1l's have two tanks and pumps, I know mine does. When I replaced the lines and pumps they called it an auxiliary tank. It mounts right where he just planted his, but also has the stock drivers side tank and pump. The whole system takes 38gal or so. Just for reference LT could just mount a stock fuel cell and probably end up well over 50gal of fuel. You know incase rum running is an idea, just look out for boss hog lol. Well that's also assuming RU-vid still is anywhere near the radar after a year of shop ownership. Best of luck LT. If I was local I would think about grease monkeying for you but Maine to Colorado is a huge jump. Find yourself a white board for the shop floor, it should help with foreword momentum and such. Maybe hire a secretary for the paperwork so your hands can machine the machines so to speak. Can't wait to see those solid shaft rocker spin past 7000rpm on an 8.1l. Literally no idea what to expect on the dyno from that, most people grenade them well before that yours however, I'm sure it will handle it with that stack of purpose built badass. I just hope it doesn't get back burnered.

I noticed you using some ear buds while grinding. I have tinnitus, and I am.sure using grinders and other tools with just earbuds contributed. I have sought out better ear protection, including more effective ear buds and full muffs. It has helped a lot. These days, I have Bluetooth versions of both, too. Do protect yourself.
