Mike people will troll the car but at the end of the day this car is nearly 30 years old and it is a Toyota Corolla with a GM badge. This issue is a minor issue with the leak, you just need an old school mechanic to work on it, don't take it to a dealer. Like you said the vehicle starts and runs like a clock, how many 30 year old Mercedes or Bmw or any high end car can say this after 30 years? Their is a reason why everywhere in the world especially 3rd world countries use Toyotas, because they NEVER die. I live in Toronto Canada and I have a 2003 Pontiac Vibe which is really a Toyota Matrix, I fix all the issues myself with the help of RU-vid videos, I am a DIY kind guy, every part I remove always says TOYOTA DENSO and NOT AC DELCO which is Gm and thats why my vibe won't die. BTW i bought my Vibe brand new and today is has 500 000km not sure what that is in Miles but its a lot. How many cars today can reach that mileage with the original Engine and Transmission? Your car may not be pretty but it won't die, it was built to get you from A TO B forever!

This car gives me childhood vibes, back in the 90s my neighbor had a geo metro and we would go on long road trips up the coast (we lived in SoCal). The sound is exactly the same and gave me flashbacks to when she would accelerate up to 80 on the interstate. So I guess it’s not complete junk as it brought back some very very happy times in my life...

Old school Toyota gear head here. Yes, the Geo/GM Prizm is in fact a Corolla. Upgrades for these pretty include most items from the 1st generation MR2. You can carry over the 4-AGE engine from the MR2 and suspension (springs, shocks and struts). With that engine you could install headers, cam and exhaust for not that much money. After that I think you should take it auto X.

Mike. I worked in a Chevy garage for 35 years. That car, other than some trim items is a toyota corolla. it is a very good car. They went to GEO later. But Prizm is a toyota. Chevy also had Spectrum which was an Isuzu, and the Chevy sprint , which later became the Geo metro was made by Suzuki. Theres your lesson for today

The Lightning I bought is right there with your POS. Had it about a week and a half, already replaced the whole dash, working on rewiring it now. All the lights are melted and need replacing. Bumper isn’t on right, all the plastics on the front end are missing. Engine won’t rev past 4K rpms and won’t make more than 4psi of boost, plus it’s running rough. I noticed some rust spots and cracked paint. And I’m sure there’s more. Bought it cheap, so I had a couple grand to put into it, but I’ve spent that twice over and I’m just getting started. Wish I never even started this flip.

My first new car was a 1999 Chevy Prizm. I bought it back in October of 99'. That car was a cockroach. Even after I had an accident that totaled it out that car still ran and drove. 200,000+ miles with no issues. Everything was factory. Fuel pump, water pump, power steering, AC, etc...

Dude, that car is a perfectly usable winter beater. My BIL has had a '89 Geo Prizm since college. He drove it forever, then each of his kids drove it. It's still going. If I had your vehicles and they were currently clean, I'd drive this in the aftermath of any winter storm.

I know how you feel, a few years ago I bought a $500 car, thinking I could fix it up and stuff but it didn't work out. First the gas line came lose and flooded the back seat, it had a door under the back seat so you can get to the fuel pump so you didn't have to take the gas tank down to change it. Oh it was a 1992 Escort but it had over 230,000 miles so it was mostly wore out when I got it. But after fixing the gas problem the trans tore up so got rid of it. So the only thing about buy an older car is what's wrong with it and what goes wrong with it and how much it costs to fix. Its fun to fix up older cars as long as not much goes wrong with it, if you're always fixing it then its not much fun.

I had that same turn signal issue in my 98 Corolla, if you smack the turn signal it won't turn on but if you lightly turn it on it should work.

Hi Mike, I had the exact same car, even the same color. Look at your high pressure PS hose for a leak, mine needed replacing. Also that particular engine is notorious for burning oil once the oil control ring drain back holes get plugged. I did a top end rebuild on mine, but yours will just need topping off every few days.

The "Bucket" is still very unsafe to drive no matter why you bought it! I would not have bought it for any reason, let alone actually drive it! If you bought it as a joke and to destroy it, then you don't have far to go because it's already so "To Up" that it won't take much time or effort to finish it off. lol

Fix it! Had one I bought for $300, drove for three years, and then scrapped it with 289k when the clutch started slipping. Still got to 120mph on its death run to the crusher.

Well… no $#¡t Sherlock! And FYI! The GEO Prizm is a Toyota Corolla we had a 1996. And the late 80s into very early 90s the Chevy Nova was a Toyota Corolla, the GEO Storm was an Isuzu Stylus. And in the late 90s the Isuzu P’up became the Hombre and it was a Chevy S10 truck.

I have a 2000 toyota 4runner. The wheel fell off one time and once I came to a stop I put it in park. But the drive shaft was still spinning because it is a open diff. So I know exactly what happens when you put it in park while it’s still moving. It makes a awful noise and smells bad.

Sounds like the turn signal cam in the steering column is bad and that's why no left signal. Right signal blinking fast or different speed could be a burned out bulb outside, but you probably also have a burned out bulb in the IP cluster which is why no arrow.

This is the stuff I like to watch, real world cars that I can afford. LOL. Good job Mike with the Prizm.

The car does get the shakes around 70mph lol. I have a 1998 Prizm with the 3-speed auto and like clockwork, it'll shake a bit at 70mph, but it goes away when you go 5mph higher or lower.

I owned two of these Prisms over the years both had the 22r Toyota motor. I got over 350,00 miles out of both these cars and they still ran like a top when I sold them.

Put powder Tide laundry detergent on that oil spot, and use a push broom to scrub it. That will remove the oil spot. That’s how we cleaned the islands at the truck stop.
