Build a Cabin from Second Hand Insulated Panels and salvaged windows. You Save thousands $$$$$$$$
SIPs - Structural Insulated Panel system. normally used for food factories and coolstores. Ive been building with this for years. No frame required. No timber and no nails. Fabulous insulation. - resists and shields EMF frequencies . Built in 5 days by one person. (except for Baz helping me lift up the roof panels!)
If you find my videos useful, perhaps you might consider chipping in for some gas money? Im too unwell to work now but I really want to keep bringing you these useful videos www.buymeacoffee.com/tinyhous...

Newsflash! - Ive just had my first ever condensation issue on one of my builds. lady owner is obsessed with houseplants- turns on heater at 4 pm each afternoon, waters her 30 plants, cooks dinner, has a long shower and goes to bed at 10pm. By the early hours of the morning the windows are running with condensation. I wonder why? 🙄🤐🤐🤭🤭

Thanks so much loving your vids mate! Im thinking of using 100mm eps for an A-Frame build (8m equilateral triangle) and was wondering if you think its possible to stack them horizontally for the walls fixing them to the internal A-Frame truss? Also was wondering how you would go about flushing the internal joints so you can paint to give it a normal plaster board look? Cheers Paul
@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. 4 месяца назад
I do my trailer builds horisontally because far less joins. On a triangle it wouldnt make any difference in number of joins except the joins down low would have more compression from the weight. Prepare for every joiner base channel and corner lashing to be custom made though. I roller paint the inside of mine with flat interior housepaint and it looks just like painted drywall I just ignore the joins- you dont see them unless you are really looking

For the steel base, what would you use for a 6 x 2.5m cabin that is mostly static but also able to be mounted to a trailer and moved whenever needed? The trailer is very solid but narrower than the cabin at about 1.8m wide. The land I'm on is not my own, so everything I build needs to be moveable. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me what surfaces you glue and what areas you use sealant on please? Thanks
@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. Год назад
everything gets glued except for the between panel joins in static builds. On trailers and truck bodies I use builders foam on all the intermediate panel joins. That makes the entire build incredibly rigid but you only have 15 mins to get it right, On a long traler with 5 or six vertical joins you can be 10 mm over as the joints swell at the end. I seal when its finished all the exterior joins. I leave drain holes in the bottom channel. 6mm - every metre.

@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. Год назад
Hi Aaron, I use neoprene washered galvanised roofing screws 25 mm longer than the roof thickness at 400mm ctrs The roof is bonded onto the top plate with adhesive too. I hide wall join rivets wherever I can - under window surrounds and door frames. On a small cabin I don't bother but with Tiny homes on trailers I make every effort I can to get as many in as I can without them showing. I do them inside up to bench top level and often outside on the back wall where they wont be noticed. Ive built about 30 now and never had a issue with leaks or cracks.

Does that support the entire structural weight of the 2.50 cm of the panels and the entire roof? There is no support such as a wooden or steel structure? Thank you very much and best regards. Xavier
@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. 10 месяцев назад
absolutely correct. although, with transport trailers and caravan type trailer builds I close the rivit gap to 100mm and use 4.8mm rivets. sometimes, on a 7m+ enclosed trailer, Ill include a steel hoop frame around the rear door hole. Wherever I have a window hole or door i double rivet inside and out where panel joins intersect window holes. It's hidden by window trims. Oh- and two people can hang out on the roof with sunloungers and pina coladas anywhere. no stepping from nail line to nail line.

I run my power under the floor and just bring it up through 200mm of wall to the power points in a short conduit. You can bring power up through cabinets and lights and switches can be done through hollow interior walls. some folk do it all outside on the back wall in a conduit at and feed it through where needed. Yes, you can drill through the foam core using a plastic conduit with a serrated end turned in a drill -but it wanders inside the wall on long runs.

"these' being cabins or second hand Insulated panels? Cabins come from cabin manufacturers, Used panels are found by searching for them in On-line trading sites. I used TradeMe here in NZ. you might use Craigslist perhaps? I dont know what country you are in or what it is you actually want.

Great video. What dimensions was the cabin? Did you use a laser level when doing the floor frame? Did u end up just leaving cabin on the concrete blocks or did you change the foundations somewhat?

Just string lines as you saw. I had no intention of doing proper piles because that makes it fall under council regulation. Its a temporary structure as it sits on blocks and they cant do diddly squat! Oh its 3m x 7.2 and now has a 3m x 6m sitting adjacent to it on a chassis and wheels so that is a trailer and not a building . They do not touch so they are separate.

@t.h.o.r. Thanks for that update. I will take the same approach. Going to start my build soon. Inspired by your channel. I'm about to purchase gas less mig welder. Tossing up between a 100a or paying more for a 140amp. Is your one, the Weldtech from Mitre 10? Thoughts?
@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. 5 месяцев назад
Mine is a weldtech 200 - It was about $1100 from Machinery House in East Tamaki. Honestly - get the biggest you can afford- small welders have rubbish hand pieces short cables and bad wire feed systems . they are rubbish to use and will just piss you off. Mine has done 7 years of hard use and no issues. get your .8mm flux cored wire here- Its so much cheaper. www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/business-farming-industry/industrial/manufacturing-metalwork/welders/listing/4539990204 @@graemea6710

It was a second hand lot of panels for $1500 so I had to just go through them all and see how many of each length I had then find jobs for them all. I tried to cut out damaged bits and use the short bits for under and over the windows. there was just enough for the walls and floor for two large cabins. then I spent $3000 on enough new stuff to do the roofs. all up about $5500 for two cabins cos all the windows were from the dump. Its just coming up two years in them now - Life changing @@graemea6710

Ok Stu, I'm building a trailerable houseboat cabin with these panels, just a ? What would u use to hold shelves to the walls so they hold some weight please, I was thinking about using a nut riviter what do u think? Also polyurethane glue works to restick the panel back to foam.

No- you were shocked- you cant be offended because it was not directed at you. He was actually looking straight past the camera at me. I was over in the yard - thats why he raised his voice when he realised that I was 30 feet away.

Ive seen this used on coastal buildings. the bottom seal into the channel is vital as salty water dribbles down the wall and is constantly trying to get in to the bottom channel. aside from that you should find it amazing. Im in my cabin on day 3 and we have an ex tropical cyclone lashing rain and wind from all quarters- Its warm and toasty in here.

Ahh yes - thankyou- the roof panels had a mossy black growth on them- I scrubbed the entire build with sugar soap and then it was sanded and spot primed and painted. most of it was clean as it used to be a honey processing room. I use Chlorine Dioxide to treat my water and often use it in spring cleaning and clothes washing blankets and things showing black mould like life jackets or damp tents
