I couldn't believe this famous diner was so bad. Nathan's in Coney Island. A place I have always wanted to visit, yet this famous diner let it down for me. So bad I couldn't believe it. I'm not sure why anyone would go to Nathan's and eat a burger. It's known for its hot dogs and the hot dog eating contest on July 4th. You don't go to Coney Island for gourmet food. New Yorkers go there for the beach and a day out away from the concrete and heat of an oppressive New York summer. It's basically a seaside resort like Margate or Weston Super Mare or Blackpool for New Yorkers who don't have much money.

As other people have commented Nathan's is world famous for it's annual hot dog eating competition which is televised live on a major channel over there. It attracts the top eaters such as multi winner Joey Chestnut and Matt Stoney as well as our very own Adam "Beard" Moran.

Even the hot dogs are made with the worst possible ingredients. If you think sausages are made from crap - lips, eye lids, anal rings. connective tissue etc - the Americans can make things even worse!

I’m surprised you’ve never heard of Nathan’s, being a food blogger. Their hot dog challenge is legendary. It really is a hot dog place, although these days it has become a tourist trap. Would have been useful if you had told us the cost. Review loses a lot if the cost isn’t mentioned.

Basically Nathan's is a tourist trap. They really don't have good food other than the hot dogs (which I admit are very salty). People wait in line for hours to get food. I don't get it. Not OTC but maybe a 2. Go to Paul's Da Burger Joint on 2nd ave at St Marks in the East village.

Nathan's is famous all over the world, as they do the 4th of July hot dog eating competition. Beard meets Food has participated several times. But that doesn't mean that the food is good, their famous hot dogs are sheit, their burgers average at best but they are good at marketing, that's all from my point of view.

Agree wholeheartedly about Coney Island, was there some years ago and it was a kind of post apocalyptic setting. Couldn’t find food or decent beer, ended up in some wonky freak show and then rode the cyclone and went back to my hotel. It felt like a broken trashy place and not in a good way. Good luck finding a mega burger in NYC mate.

To be honest I think your honest opinion is the best way to go. Such a shame as it’s built up so much in your head, then to be let down. Plus I bet it wasn’t cheap? See if you can find a D.Q. Darren if they have them down there. I had a Dairy Queen burger with Poutine last night and it was delicious. Just a thought. 😊

Good Evening DJ. From what i could see of the Establishment, I thought it looked very Inviting. To say We are World Famous was just a Lie. No Love or Care was given to your meal DJ. Well over cooked Crinkled Chips and just a small portion, Your Burger was way to small. Sorry DJ you were dissapointed. Your Milkshake needed to be in a proper Glass with a Long spoon to eat your Ice-Cream with DJ. It looks like this Industry is all Shrinknation now. It has gotten smaller but they have Increased the pricing at these places. What has happened now DJ in the World. I really liked the footage of Coney Island at the end. We were out in NYC and DC last Summer, Our verdict was that Shake Shack is good but expensive, we found Wendy's pretty decent, but varies a bit according to branch, but Daves Hot Chicken on 8th Ave, was a pretty outdstanding chicken burger experience , fabulous dry rub flavouring on the chicken various levels of heat with generous portion size.

I said I struggled to find them. I was in Naples and expected to be falling over great restaurants. On the whole, I was disappointed with the quality despite paying good money. Found great pizza though. Then moved up to Sorrento and had more luck.

Darren, Sorry, u had a bad experience I grew up in Coney from age 10 to 18 Married and moved out Those were wonderful years for a child Rides all year long With fun food and beautiful beach winter and summer Nathan’s is not the same I grew up with It has changed Became commercial The old timers knew how to cook those dogs just right Last time years ago I asked for well done dog What I received was half heated up dog Fries terrible as well Years ago fries were big chunky and soft. Delicious!!! Not today The shake was lousy as well Years ago, my husband would take me late at night on a weekend night near 11pm and off to Nathan’s we would go! I always got the dog and fries which were fantastic My husband got a sandwich called “chow mein” sandwich Yes…in a sandwich roll! Then they had the sandwich a “Special “. Some sort of pork sandwich Husband was crazy for them! I myself never ate them. He also ate the clams on half shell Ugh…i couldn’t eat them One block over across the street is sort of diner called IHOP U could have eaten there One block in the other direction was a very old Italian restaurant for generations called “Gargiulo’s well known in NYC You could have eaten there as well. I was there myself 1.5 months ago with family See…you should have mentioned u we’re going to Coney I could have shown u where to eat etc. Oh well, damage was done. Enjoy the rest of your NYC trip!

Nathan's is famous for a hotdog eating contest and being a tourist trap.A local bar and grill might have better burgers cheaper.If it says 100% Angus Beef should have some flavor if they are honest.A guide says Peter Luger Steakhouse.Never been to New York but I have heard of it.Long Island Bar is supposed to have great smashburgers.A place claiming to have Angus beef is Burger Joint.Hopefully someone can help you.

Next time you want a Foodie vacation I would suggest New Orleans.Other places would be San Antonio,Philadelphia or even Chicago.these are the big cities I can think you could easily get connections to.Good luck on your travels.

Hmmm , ive never been to America but I always thought the portions were supposed to be huge , im also suprised at how expensive the food is , maybe ask a local New yorker where to get a really good burger 🍔 , there must be somewhere surely 🤔

All you need to do is google best burgers in NY,and the list comes up,with the best in all 5 boughs.Very simple,very quick.

The place looks sad 😢…. Probably was amazing back ‘ in the day’ but looks like it would suck your soul out!…. Anyway… You’ve scratched that Coney Island itch and can move on to better 👍🏼.. Good video though
