Before anyone points this out, yes. I just did the calculations, and that 21,300 dollar base model Tacoma becomes 28,100 dollars in 2023. The 2024 base price is 31,600. That’s not the biggest issue. Keep an eye on your paint, especially on the roof and the bottoms of your doors. my 2023 Frontier S has over 4 grand in paint chip damage along the both sides, front to back, because there is something wrong with the clear coat and the bottom of my drivers door has a rust because the paint did not adhere to door and it bubbled away exposing the metal. The bottom rear quarter panels are also sand blasted down to the bare metal and are rusting as well. Both nissan and the dealer told me to basically go f myself because its a lease, just make sure I fix it before I bring it back.

It's to reduce drag if you do highway driving. You won't lose much, especially if you don't do a lot of highway driving but they do make them ugly for a reason, aerodynamics make a difference. Maybe in a decade when they can affordably cover the underneath of the trucks with panels and make it smooth, until then its cheaper to just block the air from getting under the ugly way.

I own a 2022 extra cab SR. I love the Tacoma but they should not have gone away from the suicide doors on the extra cab. The doors allow for great access to behind the seat. They also eliminated the rear jump seats, which I have frequently used. You really didn’t mention this. I also have the 4 cylinder which has decades of proven reliability. That motor in your truck has a turbo which will likely not be as reliable. Not sure why they did that as it still gets the exact same gas mileage and the low 3500 tow rating. I feel that my 2022 is better than that SR.

I agree with you on the loss of the suicide doors. I'd almost consider trading for a TRD PreRunner. This past spring I had a deposit on a 2023 SR5 Access Cab 4x4 with that bulletproof I4, but it kept getting delayed, after about a month and a half of waiting I ended up getting a TRD Sport DCSB that was on the lot. It was about 5 grand more but overall I'm happy with it. I don't particularly care for the transmission that much but after 6 months I don't bitch as much about it's odd shifting behaviour. I wanted the Access Cab because I don't use my back seat ever, but I guess I have it "just in case" lol

The MPG is interesting. Base 2wd is 20/26. That is identical to my old 2006 Tacoma base 2wd with the 2.7 and 4 speed automatic. This new base 4 cyliner turbo makes more hp and tq than the old 3.4 V6 which was rated at 17/19 in my old 2002 TRD Prerunner. That thing would barely get 16 or 17 on the highway. I suppose we've made some progress, but the increased size and weight of vehicles has held back mpg gains despite advancements in powertrain efficiency. We'll see what the hybrid does, but it may not be much as with the Tundra.

Great intro of base/ fleet truck. Is there still a double cab 6 foot cab option? How much longer is it? Rear disc brakes and rear coil springs on most models are a plus but I'd like to see the old 4.0 V6 from the 4Runner as an option. Never liked the 3.5 and turbo 4 is too complicated. It is the future and even Land Cruiser 70 has a turbo 4 diesel and auto trans option.

Great truck for what it is. Love that storage in this extended cab. Wish there was a door there, but of course, it would cost more. All the manufacturers should have a rear seat delete option in their larger truck extended cab versions configured with some type of lockable storage like shown here. Another one of my pet peeves with all manufacturers is that all options aren't available in anything other that the higher trim and/or 4 door models. For example, can't get the hybrid engine here. I know why they do that, but it annoys me. Reply

Great video, I really appreciate seeing a review of the normal base model. I really like the extra cab configuration. I am so tired of nearly every new truck being a giant four door crew cab and trying to imitate being an SUV. That being said, I wish that Toyota offered an even more basic truck. I don't need all these driver assist features. I don't care about Android Auto, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, etc. Just give me a basic affordable truck that you can actually treat like a truck. My biggest complaint is that I can't stand the infotainment and gauge cluster on this truck. I hate touch screens in vehicles, especially trucks, with a passion especially when they have barely any physical controls. Like the newer Chevy Silverado I've driven at work, Toyota has gone and pulled out all of the physical controls except for the volume knob which drives me crazy. My work truck is a 2018 F-150 and not being able to operate the touchscreen with winter gloves on is really frustrating. At least on that truck I have physical buttons for switching radio presets. I still prefer my personal 2010 F-150 with standard buttons for controlling everything over any new truck I've driven though

I used to think it was dumb that Tacoma didn't chase the big towing numbers, but not anymore. If you need to tow more than 6500 lbs you are going to hate doing it with a midsized. My GX470 tows 6500 and I use it to get a 6500 lb boat from the storage to the lake, but its a few miles in town. I tried to tow it on the freeway once and while it was rated to do it, the truck and I did not like it. Same reason you don't buy an F150 to tow 12k regularly, you step up to a f250. Occasionally? Go for it. Regularly? you wont like it.

That’s why I tell people all the time the 2.7l engine is really all you need. Once you get over what the engine can handle the frame and suspension are pretty much over weight and things start getting pretty dicey when it’s something you’re trying to tow every day. If your just making random videos towing 6000lbs over a hill once or twice like these guys it can do it sure but even me the guy that comes into the junkyard with 1800 lbs of scrap on the Tacoma rated for 1100lbs would not want to be towing heavy in this all the time. 3500lbs is more than enough for me. Heck I got a welding trailer that’s around there in weight and I will say the 2.7l pulls it fine but you feel it a lot in the frame and suspension and they don’t change when you get the v6.

Also, 3,500lbs towing is not going to cut it for a lot of people, even if it is a lifestyle truck. I will get another one when the time comes. I’m not a fan of turbocharged engines, especially in trucks.
