As the owner of the same car as well as a Tesla Model S, I would like to mention a few points that others might have mentioned: 1- There is a mechanical door handle near the door pocket. 2- There is an Auto hold button next to Park button which prevents the car from rolling back or forward but it should be switched off when you are trying to move the car slowly for example in a parking spot otherwise it keeps stopping the car. It would have been much better to use the same technology that Tesla or Mercedes use by pushing the brake pedal harder to hold the car at traffic light for example. 3- You did not mention about Augmented reality which is a very cool option (I saw you were using it). This feature shows the front camera of the car on your either screens and with arraows on it, directs you when you are navigating to a place. The headup dissplay is also improved significantly and desreved more but I think this is the same for all BMWs with IDrive 8 tech. 4- The car also has a feature called My Mode (which might be common on all models) but a cool feature to mention. 5- The tow bar (optional) is cleverly hidden under the car and operates with touch of a button to come out. 6- The car really looks big however it is not bigger than X5 but interanlly looks really spacious. 7- Being able to operate from Keyfob, Key card and smartphone app is really great. 7- I also have a Tesla Model S and this car by far has more technologies in action and far more luxurious (not sure if I can call Tesla a luxury car!) than a Tesla. Cheers
Thank you for all those points. That is good info! I’m not sure I agree on your last point, but that likely depends on the spec of the individual iX. The one I drove did not feel luxurious or upscale at all. In fact, I felt it seemed downright cheap in some areas (especially, considering it being a BMW and the price point they sell at). A nice leather interior may help that to some degree, but I’m a fan of Tesla’s minimalistic interior. BMW has gone a little too much “video game” in their tech for my taste - but I’m likely also older than their target demographic 😊
There are interior door handles. they are lower in the door. Also the grille is not useless. It has a lot of technology in it, is heated and is "self healing"
Wait, you were not in B for one pedal driving. That is what I heard you need to be in, which is another button to press, I will stick with T, but this one will have to be considered.... good review!
It’s definitely controversial. I see it more as a giant design “feature” at this point. Especially because other car makers now have grills that make this look puny 😄. But I understand your point of view. I had the same thoughts before, but I’ve kind of gotten used to it now.
The front is big. With a smaller grill it might have looked too small. And they succeeded in having everyone talk about it because of the grill. Otherwise few might have cared about it given its high price (50/M60).
Car is definitely not photogenic. Saw pictures online and thought - man, that things is ugly. But saw it in person and thought it actually looked pretty good. I don't spent my time walking around and looking at the exterior of the car though, so the interior is what's important and it's amazing in this vehicle.
I agree - it does look much better in person! And as with many great designs (and many great BMW designs), the style is ahead of its time, but seems to grow into being beautiful and just right over time. The iX looks a lot less “extreme” now compared to when it was first introduced. The interior can be nice - as long as it’s configured correctly. If they would only get rid of that plastic center speaker - and make the screens look less plasticy - then it would be truly special!
The i3 don’t count! Absolutely loved this video! The content is engaging and well-presented. Kudos to the creator for the insightful information shared. Looking forward to more fantastic content like this! Makes me want a BMW!
Considering that the i3 originated in 2014, you can appreciate that this rear-wheel-drive car has a cabin entirely made of carbon fiber, and the remaining parts are made from renewable materials. There was a specific focus on reducing weight to increase efficiency. The iX, on the other hand, is certainly not BMW's first electric car. This model can rather be seen as an electrified version of the conventional X3 or X5, adapting the existing structure and design for electrification. This illustrates BMW's approach to transforming traditional vehicle platforms into electric variants, a development I personally find regrettable. Therefore, I hold great hopes for the future with the "BMW Vision Neue Klasse," which promises to mark a new era for BMW's electric vehicles, just as they did ten years ago with the introduction of the innovative i3 and i8.
People already commented that there is a manual door release, but i'd also mention that for stronger regen and 1-pedel you pull the Drive lever twice to get into 'B' mode. That's 1-pedal. In your video at 16:04 I can see that you are in standard 'D' mode. I did enjoy the review - thanks
Thank you very much! I did all of my charging on Level 2 chargers, so I didn't have a chance to test Fast Charging. However, I did find this: With a DC fast charging station, the BMW iX xDrive40 supports a maximum power of 148 kW, meaning it would take around 27 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.
Iow to 80% take about 30 minutes if the battery is at temperature. The lastest software update now has manual battery preconditioning and the route planning has gotten much better at pre conditioning the battery when a charging station is set as a destination.
B is for one pedal driving. D doesn't stop even in adaptive mode. And the doors, they have a mechanical lever further down. 40 is in its cheapest variant not well equipped.
Kindness does make the world better. Next tax deductable trip to Cali to make some videos I might hit you up if you want to collab on anything or just meet up for some pizza.
I would love that! I’m always interested in chatting with other creators. It’s such a lonely “business”! Definitely hit me up if you make it out here (or even if you don’t 😊).
Car makers are going to need to invest much more heavily and make much lower profits for such cars to sell in the quantities needed to cause transition away from fossil cars.
This car isn’t new - it has the pre ‘23 seats and is also limited to running iDrive 8. New cars can upgrade to iDrive 8.5 which has a much better climate control interface. Locked in rear of the car - you did the thing which many people do in any car, get into the back with the child locks set to on, so you can’t open the door 🤣 [nothing to do with the door opening button] Upgrade to the iX50 to get the air suspension 😊
I think he must have made this review a while ago, separate radiant heat controls went in one of the first software updates. It’s now merged with the heated seats.
Doors do not close with quality sound for sure. Every day annoyance. Cupholders are a disaster. So German. Interior has some great materials and some terrible. Air Suspension is essential. Not standard on 50 in USA. It leases well in USA. Excellent review. One of the best I have seen. Tons of detailed comments. Thank you!
@@ian.M440Thank you again for your kind words. I really appreciate it! Taking the leap to full EV is definitely a big step and an M440 is a pretty awesome machine! All I can say is that once I switched to full electric, I never looked back. My ICE cars are sitting around without being driven - so much so that I’m working on selling them off. I did recently have the opportunity to drive an i4, and that was a very impressive car as well. I drove it back to back to an M340, and the i4 felt similar, except it just had more of everything. More power, more braking, more handling. You can’t go wrong with the M440 though. I previously had an X4M40 and I loved that car!
Mine is the m60. And my range is usually over 320. And I don’t drive slow. I wonder why your range was so bad. The cup holders are dumb. And the interior storage isn’t amazing. But Tesla couldn’t touch the IX. Especially towing or in the cold. This is far to do a review with such limited information. Especially the range accuracy being way off. I get a ton of people commenting on how nice my car looks. The black does look more like a mini van though. IMO. And the fact that Tesla stilllll doesn’t have Apple car play or android car play is wild.
Thank you for your comment! I found the seats to be very comfortable during my 2 weeks with the car, but comfort is also a very individual preference - and can also depend on how you’re built. At 6’4” and a 36” inseam, the front seat was perfect for me (which isn’t always the case with BMW seats), but the rear did feel a bit awkward, as I mentioned. Is it the little seat extender thing, that some BMW seats have, that you’re missing? My legs never actually touches that piece in my other BMWs, but if that piece normally provides you support, I can see how not having it would be a problem!
"BMW Has finally released their first "True" Electric Vehicle - the BMW iX" Well back in 2013 they build the i3... And this wasn't even their first EV. Also may be you should visit the Netherlands if you want to get some insight of push bikes etc
I enjoyed your review, I have a 2021 Tesla Model S but I want to really check out other options at the end of the year when I plan on getting a new car. This is one of the cars I will be looking at. I am also looking at a Polestar especially intrigued by the upcoming Polestar 4. I would be interested if you did a review on that.
Thank you. I had a chance to spend a couple of weeks in a Polestar 2 and I liked it a lot. Not as much as my Model S, but a lot. It did absolutely everything well. But it didn’t do anything incredibly well. I really liked the iX, but my next car will likely be a newer S (I have a 2013 P85). Another car that really surprised me was the Lucid Air. I’m not a huge fan of the way it looks, but once you are inside of it, it’s incredible. It’s more along the lines of a high end Mercedes or BMW - before those turned all blingy and video game like. If luxury, serenity, and quality is what you’re after, I’d definitely check one of those out!
I’m sorry you feel that way - and I’m not sure why? I’m definitely not paid by Tesla (I wish), but I do enjoy my old Tesla Model S. On the other hand, I also own 5 BMWs… The review was my honest opinion. I think the iX is a great car, but it does have some things I’m less fond of. But then again, so do all cars.
The only issues I have with this car! The driver and passenger seats are horrible. I’m always sliding forward. There is no lumbar support. They need an arm rest instead of using middle console.
tezla, scammers, give me back my money for not delivering the vehicle to me and for scamming me out of the costs of accessories for this scrap metal, I will advertise for you until I get my money back and by the way, this happened in February 2022
when placing the order, I had to pay money and I was supposed to pick up the car in July-August 2022. After trying to contact seller several times, I found out that they didn't know when they would have the car and told me to wait or I would lose my money, and I was prepared to pick it up in these months, and in May I bought accessories for the Y model such as a charger, a key, a cover, a tarpaulin for the car, cosmetics, a cable for public chargers, a jack and small items, all about USD 1,200. I waited and in December I received an e-mail that there was a chance, but they were not sure if it would be 100%. I wrote that it would be better if If anything, it's March in the spring, because in the winter I don't know how the batteries work and I'm far from home. And they said they would set it for the 2nd quarter of 2023, I replied that so be it. At the beginning of March, I received a text message asking if I wanted to pick up the car in March. I was surprised and replied that YES. After about a week, I entered my account and saw that my order was not there. I thought it was normal. I'm about to pick it up. I found out from my friend who picked up the car that his car was still on the website even after he picked it up. Miraculously, I managed to contact the seller by phone and after giving the order number, he said that the order had been canceled, I said by whom and he said he doesn't know and tells me to place a new order and pay because the money is gone and wait again. I've had enough after almost 14 months
Worst part of IX: seat comfort is bad, frameless doors are stupid, air recirculation opens up after 1minute which lets lot of smog inside, glove compartment ultra small, trunk smallish, 22inch wheels are only properly working with the air suspension add-on, no reserve tyre, no frunk, seat cooling not standard, only 2 customizable gesture control options provided which is not enough, headrest fixed - for short people a no-go.
I'd buy this to replace my X5 phev but it truly is hideous and ugly. I've tried to reconcile with the current arse faced and beaver fake grille on the iX and i4 but ugly is ugly so hard pass.
