@@larsmiles7231 Kiwi here, I always make my toasties (I think y'all call them grilled cheese?) with vegemite. Literally the best addition. A lot of people get it wrong by slathering it over plain bread or eating it on its own. I assume with vegemite its similar to marmite in that you are supposed to spread a good amount of butter on the bread first, then add the mite. It dilutes the flavor and makes it taste a little sweeter. Love it, would be interested in seeing what happens if you were to Sous Vide it with a good amount of butter.

Hi Guga, I’ve used vegemite as a marinade on kangaroo steaks and it works really well. It seems to tone down and meld with the gamey taste of the roo meat to make it more pleasant. Just a whisper thin coating all over and you don’t need to add any extra salt because the vegemite is salty enough. Kudos to you for trying this though as it was very entertaining. 😊👍

Love the video, oddly been something I was also curious about for some time. I use Vegemite in a few Asian dishes where Soy Sauce is normally present to give it an extra kick. The flavour profile of Vegemite lends itself to Asian food pretty nicely. I'm also one of those nut jobs that doesn't mind eating it by the spoon, so maybe I'm just weird. lol

First of all I just wanted to say thank you for introducing Picana to me as if it wasn't for this channel and your other great channel I would never had tried that delicious cut the other day!!! Soo good. Keep up the great work and keep on experimenting. My request is to try dry age with a mushroom paste of your choice and dry age with a chimichurri sauce.

Try dry ageing in spent trub of a heavy ale. When brewing at home yeast will go dormant and settle to the bottom of a 5 gallon batch which you then siphoned beer off of. You can use the trub to ferment more beer. But instead I think you should dry age a steak in it. Since different beer yeast will create different esters (flavor notes) you could actually experiment. Normal ale yeast, belgian ale yeast, brettenomycie yeast. But do it after brewing beer so some of the esters will already be present.

When I saw that meat coming out of the fridge, my first thought was "this doesn't look good. This looks exactly like the Nutella experiment." So, no surprise it didn't work. Any time the coating cracks, the meat spoils. Maybe putting it into one of those dry-aging bags after coating would help?

I've been subbed for a while but just started binging this channel a lot in the past month. As an Australian viewer, I feel honoured and proud. I think this will be very interesting! I expect good results but Vegemite isn't everyone's favourite so we'll see what happens! Aw, I just finished the taste test and what a shame! I'm such a big Vegemite fan I'll literally eat it straight from the jar or I guess now they sell it in tubes too. I think it kept too much moisture in and didn't let it breathe properly :// I'd like to suggest an amended experiment in light of this. Why not use the Vegemite as a salty seasoning? Try seasoning with garlic and pepper then smear it with Vegemite before grilling..? You could also mix it with butter so you don't have to add butter on the grill. I normally eat toast with butter and Vegemite; it is a holy combination!

Try out this traditional Aussie brekkie. 4 minute eggs with vegemite soldiers. Method - put your eggs (extra large 70g of course) into boiling water and simmer for 4 minutes. In the meantime get your toast ready and BUTTER it. Spread vegemite THINLY onto the toast and then cut into strips (soldiers) - say approx 4 or 5 strips per slice of toast. After 4 mins put egg in eggcup, knock off the top with a tea spoon and start dunking your soldiers. YUM. NB: I like the egg pretty runny and it needs to be runny to be dunkable (if that's a word).

There are two competing Australian made savoury spreads: Vegemite and Promite. Both resemble each other, but Promite is softer and glossier. Vegemite is a yeast extract spread, whereas Promite is a vegetable protein extract spread. They are both extremely salty. Vegemite has a molasses and beer yeast flavour, Promite tastes like fried onions pickled in soy sauce and molasses. These flavour descriptions aren't accurate but the best one can do like trying to describe the taste of coca cola. I fall in the minority who prefer Promite and I think for non-Australians that if you don't like Vegemite, you should give Promite a shot as the flavour is far different and may be appreciable.
