I am a first year medical student and essentially did not pass my first year. I found out that I have a lot of catching up to do, and not just educationally. Apologies for my stream of consciousness and horrible audio but I hope this can be uplifting for someone!

Being humble while being in a job is critical for advancement. Trust me I took a break from college and now works in Wal-Mart. I feel you but I think this part in our life is a moment where we can self evaluate ourselves.

Thank you for sharing your story. Most people are afraid to share their failures, however failure is how we learn and become better students and future doctors. It is important to remember to take time for self care as a student. I am wishing you luck on your exam.

Thank you for sharing. I’m having these thoughts and moments right now after going back to school 20 years later this is way harder than I thought . 💭 engineering school For me not sure what I was thinking.. 🧐 I’m attempting to be in the moment more and more because all of it does matter and when I don’t want to memorize these plant 🌱 biology terms and doing calculus over and over I keep pushing.. hey I feel blessed and honored to have the privilege to do so because so many don’t.. so yes my friend keep pushing and thank you for sharing and just to let you know we’re all struggling it’s a process.. don’t give up no matter the storm! Peace and Light to you 😇😊 and Good Luck!

Levi Mordechai My friend at school is in his 50s studying to be a doctor as well. He was a surgeon in Iran but he was not able to practice here in the USA so he went back to school and started from ground zero. Very hard to do. But because of how much he loves medicine, it shows through his work ethic and how helpful he is to my class. Everyone loves him because of his attitude! It just goes to show that at the end of the day, what really matters is your heart, intentions, and attitude. If you are successful in that, no failures in life could ever take that away from you. Keep pushing hard my friend, you can do it 😊

Your words are incredibly well-spoken. I recently made the commitment to pursue medical school after years of debate and doubting myself. Your mindset is necessary and is something I'm going to need to learn when approaching this part of my education. I'm incredibly worried about what is to come, but I know that it is going to build some great character for me! I hope you are doing well now, a year later! Best wishes.

Hey Tyler, thank you so much for listening. Congratulations on your commitment to medicine, I know that must have been a difficult process. As you can see, I can't promise your journey won't be filled with its own challenges but I strongly believe everything happens for a reason & anything you face will be for your best [definitely character building] and for the betterment of your future patients :) let me know if you have any questions about school!

Wrong. We're talking about patients lives. If you FAIL medical school, leave. The heart felt stories and motivations go out the window when a patient is coding and the 6 year graduate freezes under pressure and someone's family member dies.

With regard to intellect, I would rather be someone who failed med school, rather then someone who succeed at something most people would find easy to achieve. Just getting into med school is a challenge. And the system isn't designed to detect when we peak, as individuals, and how those peaks influence the rest of our lives. Getting into med school is statistically, almost as impressive as graduating from med school (med school dropout is rare). Not much to be ashamed of. Similarly, the worst NFL players are, nevertheless, good enough to make it in the NFL.

Hello Noor, thank you for watching. Congratulations on getting into physiology school. Things have dramatically improved with school. I cut down my studying at least 50% than what I was normally doing and my grades are even better. I was able to cut down studying the more I let go of control. Instead of focusing on learning every little detail in lecture because I was scared I would get questions wrong on a test, I listen to lectures one or two times a couple days before the test and do not take any notes. The rest of my time I watch videos from outsides sources and read study materials from outside sources. This reduced my stress so much because I am actually focused on learning the material so I can understand instead of trying to force myself to figure out what my professors are teaching. We have amazing resources on the internet now where teachers will help you learn the same concepts that your school teaches but they do it so much more concise and easier to understand. I am now finishing up my second year of school and taking boards in June :) I can do a video of my studying habits if that will help you.

@@lifetime_learner Thank you for replying you're such a sweetheart. Thank you for the congratulations as well I really appreciate it especially in these times when I'm completely doubting myself and my passion but I know deep down that's what I want despite failing my MSK practical which I have till the summer to redo it if things are ok with the pandemic situation. I really hope you crush your exams this summer. I def need your tips because I need to adjust my studying habits now to become a better student. I also wanted to know how did you mentally take this failure and took this opportunity in your favor to grow and develop. I shall stay tuned for your next video then. Thank you again and stay safe and blessed

I am really lost at this point. I don't know if I could manage medicine. I had always wanted to be a doctor, and I am preparing for getting into medical school. I need to be honest, I breakdown almost all the time, cuz first off, if I back out at this point, I feel like I will be disappointing my parents, secondly I really don't have a backup plan. Now I feel like medicine is just not meant for me but its too late, I am taking a drop year getting coaching to get into a med school. I just feel horrible that my parents had to pay for this when I don't even know if I could achieve what they believe I could. I don't know if anyone could relate, but it feels good to finally express what I actually feel. I don't know what to do. I'm slowly losing hope ;( sometimes what you love the most may not be meant for you..

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. Medicine is really difficult and it can mess with her head if you let it. There's two things that could be happening 1) your heart is telling your body and mind that this isn't want you are meant to do 2) you are going through a difficult time to better shape the kind of doctor you want to be. I had two breakdowns about not being sure if I can do medicine. Breakdowns are normal, some people have a bunch and some people have none. Don't let this emotion make long term decisions. Every moment where I had to question if this was really something I could do, it brought me closer to wanting it. But, it took a lot to get there. I had to really feel every emotion I was feeling and ask myself why do I feel this way? Is it because of the stress? is it because of family? is it because I don't feel good enough? is it because of money? I had to break everything down and reassess the answers. Looking back, even though they were painful, I would not want to skip having a mental breakdown. It taught me a lot about myself and I would not be where I am without them. My professor gave me some great advice that I recommend you try: 1) write down all of the skills you have 2) write down all the qualities you want your future job to have 3) write down everything you love about medicine & everything you hate (do that for every career you have ever thought of having). Nothing is perfect. There is no perfect job that will shield you from the emotions are having right now. But there is a passion in this life that will push you to overcome it.

Hi, the score was based on a curve so the person in my class with the highest grade set the standard for the rest of us. Anyone below the 5th percentile which ended up being a score of 53 was considered failing
