Ohh it’s nostalgic. I studied in New York for 2 month. Arrived without any preparations. Mostly lived in Russian speaking hoods like Brighton and Forest Hills. New York is not like in the movies. It’s a crazy city, but also interesting to live by the same reason. Pizza 🍕 is good with big chicken pieces unlike in Russia. And the food was just a bit more expensive as in Russia with the older currency exchange, but much bigger portions. The tips thing I hated though. Even for the ice cream you supposed to give tips. It was in 2013-14. I still miss the metro 🚇 sound of New York. But it’s too dirty with crazy people sometimes. But most people were telling me “sorry” all the time when they passed me. I thought why they are so polite! It’s too polite! But then in Russia I started to say sorry even first days after coming back. Well. I wanna travel all the America next time and conquer the Hollywood! 🎥

@@CrazyRussianSergey lolwut? Manure? I don't wanna know... People are expected to tip the servers bc they only make about $2/hour. That's how American restaurant owners can afford to sell their food so cheap. Do the math and ask yourself if you could live in NYC on $2/hour. It's expected, unless your server is horrible. And by horrible, I mean she cusses and/or injures you in some way.

I was surprised she did not get help at school. Even if they don't give personal help many colleges and university's have areas for posting assistance where you can find living situations. Roommates come and go at different times and sometimes you can find living quarters with someone whose roommate have graduated or left school.

New York learnt it from a terrible and bitter experience with an atrocious highrise clothing factory fire 🔥 killing many woman-workers next to what's now Washington Square. Appreciate the fire escapes as life savers and don't use them for growing pots of plants, etc. Know where they are located and clear any obstructions to them for a quick escape. Have you thought of posting a notice about an apartment to be rented out by you outside your university's residence rental office when school will start soon once you have found an apartment with one extra bedroom and interview another student to become another renter ? Your *experience* in looking for a good apartment counts for someone in a similar situation. Fermions can't superconduct but they can pair up via a *massive* moiety to become bosons and superconduct. Mass is variable dependent upon the interaction with the environment. Carbon atoms are lighter than many other elements' atoms but a diamond crystal formed of *tightly bonded* carbon atoms behaves as being extremely stiff and allows phonons to have very long mean free path.
@XenaBe25
@XenaBe25 Год назад
@@lucarmyfool4800 Hehe Ikr. I wouldn't live there unless I won $20million or more on a lottery. The thought of fires or doing time for killing an intruder is a huge dealbreaker for me. I mean, it's safer to live below the 4th floor if you're worried about fires. But then you have to worry about B&Es. And having to look at some ugly brick wall out your window every day. Just yuck. But NYC does look like a fun place for millionaires.

Hugs Dari! Exciting! Sorry the prices are outrageous! Can the University help? But you are a tough lady it will work out. Also as the season changes it will be dark at times. Its called Daylight Savings Time. In the fall on November 5th you will turn your clock back 1 hour at 200 am ( i think). I can hear you say What? Lol. As the Spanish say, locos americanos, crazy Americans. Its is suppose to utilize more daylight for working people and school children but it doesnt really. Anyway set your phone to remind. Yes we say spring forward and fall back which means in the fall you turn your clock back one hour and in the spring you turn it forward. Do you have this in other countries? You are brave i have fantasized about New York but its a tough place. I moved in 1970 to St Louis from a much smaller city in i loved it but it was easy, everything worked out well. I am so sorry for the trash on the streets, it is embarrassing. I guess some people have no pride. Apartments look pretty good but $3000 dollars that is outrageous!

Hi Dari, welcome to the USA! If the cost of living and finding work in NYC gets to be too much, you may want to consider looking for a school in the middle of the country to continue your studies? I know you can find good apartments in safe neighborhoods for $1,200 or less in the Midwest, and jobs are much easier to find too. Food for thought anyway. Good luck!

Well, I'd never be able to make it in New York city. I don't have enough money. I wouldn't mind trains or anything. I've lived in places where they buy the cheapest land, so I'm next to a sink hole and a train. We have holes they have to fill. I'm a dumb-butt and kept trying to around run around the building. There are all sorts of holes in our ground that they fill.

If your university has a dormitory, the best housing option is the University Dorm, Ask your university for help with housing. Also, to get your credit started go to the department stores like Macy's or Target stores and apply for their credits cards, since they have no monthly fees but their interest rates are VERY high, so pay off your debt before the interest rates kick in.

@derekd1510
@derekd1510 Год назад
This idea to build credit is HORRIBLE! Especially for a woman who has no experience with credit card companies and probably likes to shop. She would likely go over her limit and forget or be unable to pay her minimum payment on time and then she will be in a very bad situation. The better option is to open a small ($500) one year secured "credit builder" loan at her bank which is automatically drafted from a $500 savings account held by said bank. This is what I did and essentially it is borrowing money from yourself and a virtually fail proof way of raising your credit score. As long as you have $500 dollars to spare for one year, it is perfect.

I wish you luck. I moved away from the NY city area 34 years ago and don't think I could ever afford to move back. I'm sure you don't need my advice, but here goes anyway: 1. Find a place where you will feel safe, coming and going and at night. 2. More than likely you will need to settle for a place with a major objection anyway (except safety), it a matter of being worn down to the point of capitulation. 3. You may need to think "outside the box" (old expression from an old guy) and one of you set up in the living room and the other in the large bedroom - using the little bedroom for a walk in closet. 4. Remember you are renting and this is temporary, and can re-locate once your lease is up - plenty of time to keep looking for something better. Please let me know if my advise is dumb - so I will learn to keep it to myself (just trying to be helpful in this frustrating time).

New York is expensive! I'm from Boston and it's also expensive! I managed to find a couple of roommates who were total strangers. The last roommates that I had in Boston, we were five girls with one bathroom. I don't know how we did it. But we all had our own rooms so at least that was good. Our apartment was two stories. I was on the third floor under the roof. With no air conditioning. So much fun in the summer. But at least I had a job so I could be in the air conditioning during the day. I don't think the buses head air conditioning back in the '80s either. And it was in a really nice neighborhood. But I had to take one bus and two Subway cars to get to work. Or I could walk an extra 7 minutes and take one bus and one subway car. Eventually I went to the other direction and took one bus and then one express bus to Copley Square. That was better. And then two of my roommates got married and everybody broke up and I ended up living in a room in Waltham (thank goodness for that express bus! Cuz I wasn't even in Boston anymore) And then I got married and moved to the North Shore. When my last landlady sold her old cheap house I couldn't afford to live anywhere so now I'm in Florida In the house my parents had and then I got a roommate from Boston! Which was good because the property taxes are really high. And then The house my brother was renting got sold so now he lives here too. Thankfully we have three bedrooms. And lots and lots of stuff everywhere. Hopefully we will sort it all out someday but it's been four years since he moved in so who knows. Maybe we need to invite company over again. We did one time, right before COVID. Thank you for the video. It was really good. And I don't think I have heard of Sam Smith, but he sounds interesting. I like people who are humble. And now it is time for BBC World News we can find out maybe more about the plane crash yesterday in Russia. Welcome to the USA! (I haven't been to New York since 1997 so it was nice to see it and those concert tickets sounded cheap. I might consider paying that much for a concert If I had it. Friend of mine wanted to see Taylor Swift, but the tickets were $1,000. That's what she said. I wouldn't pay $1,000 for a concert ticket that didn't come with an airplane flight and a hotel room, preferably in LA and even then I would need roommates. One time in DC I had three of them, and all of them snored. I told myself it was a soothing sound meant to put me to sleep, and I went to sleep)

You’ve never stood near Moscow international business center, or Gorky park or Zaryyade park or red square or GUM, or Arbat street places that are far nicer than NYC. Show the massive homelessness and migrants in NYC. Also go to Harlem, Queens of Brooklyn. What kind of girl does negative propaganda about her own country? NYC is experiencing population exodus for high crime while Moscow is gaining population.

I'm from California I live in moscow, I pay $600 a month for an apartment on the top floor of a new buisines class builing with a loft and I have 1,000 MGBT internet speed.which isn't even available in the US. There's vurtually no crime there, health care is very good and chea' and there's so much to do because Moscow is much bigger than NYC. I think it's really a big mistake for Russian people to Move to NYC and all the Russian people I know who moved there really have to struggle to have a quality of life that's half as good as what they had in Russia. Furthermore centeral park is absolutely a disappointment compared to Gorki park!!!

AS a former NYC. I'm glad you can say NYC is not like the movies. It's very very expensive. Manhattan is out of anyones price range unless you are making 6 figures. The most affordable is outside in Queens. Forget Brooklyn. Unless you go at the end of Brooklyn. Minimum rent is 3k a month. Also. If you are a young blond woman. It will be waaaay easier for you with all the thirsty older men in NYC. Food is expensive, supermarket it expensive, trains are 2.75 a ride. There are a lot of crazy ppl in the trains. You have to be careful. Stuff you will find out soon. Ppl have to realize the city also has 100k migrants coming to NYC. Wait a little more and see how that effects NYC with it's 8 million ppl. I also find it interesting you love Sam and right after go to a church to ask for help. God doesn't want you to have one foot in the secular music world and another in his

Yeah I'm a bit confused about someone who travels all the way around the place, is obviously intelligent and going to University, but she didn't think of hooking up with the University staff to ask about housing before ever coming? I'm confused. I'm sure they could have set you up, and then from there once you get into your studies and get your bearings, then you look for a more suitable apartment as time goes on. Baby steps. Baby steps. This is New York City. This is the United States. It's far far bigger and far far more expensive than what you're used to in Russia I would assume

Almost all foreigners (my Russian wife included) dream of the NYC lifestyle. 😅 I bet studying there would be a blast!)) But for ~$3k you can rent a private 4 bedroom house with a pool in Houston, have a similar salary and pay lower taxes. I guess it's why NY and Cali folks begrudgingly flock here despite the heat. Always welcome in the south) но вот, добро пожаловать в США и удачи!

New York is the most expensive city in the USA. If you were in a university/college in a small city or town, you would not have the problems you are having and prices would be much cheaper. You could also live outdide of the City. The further you go, the less expensive it is. I will not say cheap, because I live 70 miles north of Manhattan and a one bedroom is about $2000 now. It takes about an hour and a half to get to NYC by train from up here. Some do it though because the schools are good and it is safe. I was a teacher in a high school. One of my former students drove from here to Brooklyn every day to attend Law School. She lived with her parents and saved a lot of money, but it must have been stressful. She is a lawyer now and I believe she never had any debt. She is Indian. Her parents came here from India and she grew up in the USA. Very hard working and bright person.

Hi Dari, I can understand you, when I moved to the UK in Birmingham, I was able to find an apartment only within 1.5 months, even considering that my company (a huge international company) was a guarantor and I had quite a decent salary for this area of the UK. Nowadays in the Western world, everything is so busy, tough, and expensive. I am not sure that it's normal. Now, living in the Western world is much more challenging than it was before the pandemic.

Yeah but Birmingham is half the price and even less if u can commute 40 mins. It's only really London that's those prices or a few streets in Manchester as both are popular and both very fashionable. Personally I'm Happy on the south coast , five min from beach ,20 from good Town and 15 from equivalent of national park, plus I don't run the danger of getting a Brummie accent 😉😃
