I'm always impressed by the audiovisual polish of these videos. With other makers I would think a moment like 6:44 is probably a coincidence, but with Laura I wouldn't be that surprised if she even manually pitch-shifted the dremel sound to make it in tune.
@drexellouis4046

Yes I agree, annealing would help. I've always been fascinated with the way the Japanese created their swords. When they're finished making the blade it's straight and the way they curve it and also create a softer back or spine for the blade and a diamond heart edge is to put clay on the blade and then fire it once more in the forge and then quench it the clay keeps the water from super cooling it rapidly but the hard edge has no Clay on it so it gets diamond hard and expands and thereby creating the curvature but it also creates a cushion or shock absorber behind that diamond edge and makes the sword nearly indestructible

Some annealing before drilling should make it a bit easier to drill. Easier said than done, some steels are quite complicated to work with.... Cool blade nevertheless!
@padraicmcgraw
@padraicmcgraw 5 лет назад
ooooo sine it was still a blank she could drift the hole.
@torbjornahman
@torbjornahman 5 лет назад
@@padraicmcgraw Yes, you could punch the hole, but it would still require drilling to clean up the hole and punching so small is a challenge by itself.

Laura, first of all, I love your videos. Just wanted to say though that you should definitely check your audio levels when editing your videos (particularly with headphones). The voice/dialogue audio is significantly lower than music levels. I would send this message privately but I don’t know/think RU-vid has a way to do that. Anyway, awesome video as always. Thanks for all your hard work-tschüss!

Laura, awesome make! if you should ever have troubles drilling very hard materials, add a little oil, if that does not cut it. Get a carbide or powercoated drillbit it will most likely have no trouble doing it :)

That blade is so rad! Definitely a cool upgrade. Some will say what do all that work for that? Is the blade it comes with not good enough? Those people aren't makers. The act of doing is the fun part! Who doesn't like smashing hot metal?

Hi, Laura! You can regrind a masonry drill and drill with that into your hardened steel. Widia is most of the times harder than anything. I used that method often to remove broken screws from the casings of turbo chargers on ships. They tend to get very hot and brittle due to the exhaust heat. Regards, Etna.

The Celts were also using the technique of layering distinct alloys and then twisting the rod forged from the many layers. For both decorative and functional purposes. The steel wasn't yet hardened, in any other way than by twisting. You shouldn't have had such a difficult time drilling through it. Slower speed, less pressure and a drop of oil might have worked wonders. If a file catches on it, a regular drill can too.
