Collectible glassware is my nemesis: one display cabinet is full of Fenton translucent and opalescent glass, another one with grape and cable carnival glass. It's getting harder to find and more $$$ - good thing since I'm out of room 😊 There's just *something* about fine glassware that appeals! Finally got the last of the 2 dozen pansies planted, then spread marigold seed in the bean plots. Just in time as it's raining (again). Take care!

I was out Monday and dropped by one thrift store and found pint canning jars 4 for $2 and half points 4 for$1. I just finished canning a bunh vegetable stock and started my chicken stock for canning tomorrow.

I was at a Christmas bizarre a few years ago. I picked up a set of 8 tea cup, cream and sugar and some dessert plates and serving plates in that pattern for $20. I pull it out every Christmas.

Hey Toni, those egg containers would make great seed starter trays! We have Value Village here in WA state. We started leaving the island and donating there because our thrift shops here are really picky about what they'll accept! No books, only certain appliances, clothing they're very picky on. Plus, we never know when they'll be open! Lovely china cup! I used to collect tea cups and saucers, but only those made in England. Stopped doing that since I'm trying to "Swedish Death Clean" 😂😂 as opposed to collecting! Enjoy your garden!🇺🇸😎🇨🇦

I have taken my kids “Treasure hunting “ ( as we call it ) since they where babies . We go every few months. It is fun to see what treasures we can find . As the saying goes one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

THE UTILITY OF THRIFTYNESS Though I am more of a Kijiji browser these days, I still go with my wife to the Dollar stores when she does. There are a few things that I have found useful, like a rectangular mesh basket, or perhaps it's called a strainer. It is perfect for picking vegetables and washing them off, outside, with the garden hose. I simply mounted some wire (or string) carrying handles to it, to make it easy to carry. It saves a lot of mess in the kitchen sink. The dollar stores also have cheap tools, like multi screwdrivers, plyers, and small hammers that come in handy around the house. I have my good tools in the shop (garage) with a number of cheap rudimentary tools for infrequent use in the house. I also place these cheap tools, like utility knives and screwdrivers, in pretty much every toolbox I own. They are cheap and come in handy so that you don't have to go to a different tool box for the same tools. And, if you break them, it's not a big deal...you're out maybe a dollar or two. I can also appreciate Toni's china collection. I am always on the look-out for another Christmas mug for my coffee. The sillier the better...but it still has to feel good in my hand, when I'm drinking my coffee. Cheers Toni.

I remember when my mom first saw the Royal Albert Old County Roses! We were on vacation in Hope BC (1974) Wow…!!!…You got a great deal!! I love when we find a treasure at the thrift stores! Just got done watering my garden!👩🏻‍🌾

Glad you found something you loved! I have a penchant for commercial cookware and sewing machines. I had to stop collecting them both because I don't have any place to store them. So now, it's Love Inspired Suspense novels. I went to a thrift store the other day and there was a shopping cart full of books and manage to get an entire box full. Went to another thrift store and got a tote bag full (not all suspense). Usually the online sellers beat me to it and I might get one or two. Today is Walmart day, when the books for the month come out. They used to be under $6 per book, now they have raised their prices to just under $8 per book! 😮 Everything is getting too daggone expensive and I'm womdering how much longer I'll be willing to pay that much for a paperback. Ugh! I can read one in less than a day, so the 6 that they publish each month doesn't last too long.

ah yes, I check out all the sewing machines all the time, but when i was into quilting, I splurged and bought myself a bernina...love it but it not as heave duty as my old sears model that I had for over 20 years!

@@HerHomesteadSkills My machines are mostly from the 50's and 60's. I do have a few that are recent. I have a serger, a battery operated machine (straight stitch, zig zag, etc. Model FHSM-505), a hand crank Chinese leather patcher for making shoes and one of those HD3000 heavy duty machines. Will be nice to finally get some serious sewing time in but I reckon there will be a season for that when its better to stay indoors.

Hi Toni - those are some great finds that you found today. We managed to get the new greenhouse partially built today, will take a few more days to get it completed. Had some wonderful help as it takes 4 people to put it together. More help coming tomorrow. Yesterday managed to get about 50 egg plants and 200 pepper plants into the big greenhouse. Lots more to do - haven’t been able to get to the outside gardens yet as it has been so wet and every time it starts to dry up there is another big downpour. Life can really have challenges at times. Hope your garden is doing well.

I love poinsettias, we have a large bush in the back yard. I didn't even know they would grow outside anywhere in the US until we moved down here. My granny could get them to "bloom" multiple years, but I never could get one to turn red the next year even if I had a healthy plant. 🤷‍♀️

We had a large poinsettia in Ft Lauderdale. I remember my Dad would trim it quite severely every September. Always bloomed.

there is a way to get them to bloom "change color" but i'm not familiar with how to do it!

@@HerHomesteadSkills I know its got to do with how much light/darkness they get per day. You try to mimic nature (long nights and short days of winter) but I never could get it right. Either they wouldn't turn it all or turn yellow! 🤦‍♀️

I was chased in by the rain but after it cleared out I manaed to get 42 pickle plants planted out. That may seem like a lot of pickle plants but I have to make up for last years pickle short fall, I only got one jars worth, plus, I have those pesky pickle theives called chipmunks around 😏🐿🐿 destructive critters they are. Long live the pickles!!!🥒🥒

What a nice escape you had. I believe taking a break and rejuvenating is necessary for good health. Mind and body. Good for you! The egg cartons are a great devil egg container. Cut the eggs in half so each half stands in container cover it up and away you go. 😊 Heading into triple didgets here. Stay cool.

Hi Toni. I saw your 6 quarter store buy and automatic thought was pretty ice for a holiday party. In southeast Texas we have had so much rain we need boats to go make groceries! My car has sat in the garage for over a week because it would surely take on water if I drive it out. Luckily my husband has a tall truck we can use. Weeds in my garden have overtaken the veggies and I am afraid it will be a goner because of the weeds or the water. But my raised beds are thriving so I can count that as a win. Politics has made people lose their minds, so I have taken myself out of that area. Whatever will be will be. I just prey that God sorts the weeds from the garden.

Today was the most beautiful day we’ve had in months after many days of deluge. I too, went to the Salvation Army but not to buy. To drop off a lot of things I pulled from several closets and I’m not through yet. Now I’m going thru the window seat covey and my huge old desk drawers and cubby holes. Time to clear out part of my spring cleaning. Nice find you got.

After working today, I decided to not do laps at the YMCA and go look at some more plants for my raised garden beds. It was a beautiful day and I ended up with 3 zucchini plants, a yellow pepper plant and some rosemary. For the grandkids I planted multicolored corn and assorted colors of carrots along with purple green beans. The 3 little boys ages under 7, hand watered all my vegetables over the weekend. Then they decided to make mud up my back slope. They got cleaned up by washing my car! Toni, I enjoy your treasure hunting. Do they have yard sales in your area?

We used to have St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores kind of like Salvation Army and they both had some really good finds. I developed a bit of a problem with over collecting so I don't go any more, but it was just about my favorite thing to do. Even if the things aren't valuable, many of them are pretty and bring a bit of joy as they're used or displayed.
