I have a 99 Civic as well. I've had it for 11 years and just broke 200k and it still drives excellent. I did some repair work on mine as well. I replaced the Distributor, Throttle Body, Starter, Alternator with Honda OEM parts. The grand total for those 4 components was I think 3500 after tax. I hate aftermarket parts and my Civic doesn't like them either. It just doesn't run the same. I've replaced many more things on mine but these were the most expensive.
A/C issue. I had the same problem with mine and no one could tell me the issue. I had freon put in and it didn't help. I did my own troubleshooting and found that my expansion valve was messed up. I ended up gutting every single A/C component and replace them with brand new Honda parts. I replaced the Condenser, Condenser Fan, A/C compressor, Expansion Valve, Evaporator, both A/C hoses that attach to the Compressor and all the O-rings. The result was my A/C sits at 32- 34 degrees on a hot summer day with no issues whatsoever.
My first car was a 1997 honda accord, it's been 6 years since i had that car and i just sold my 2018 toyota carola for 4k more than what i paid for it a year ago. Im now driving another honda accord, specifically a 2002 Honda Accord SE and it's really made me realize i was a honda boy all along.
*Regarding the AC, have your friend check the AC condenser fan for operation and speed, as these age they will slow waaaay down so it results in the symptoms you indicate and eventually fail completely, they are fairly easy and cheap to replace. Also good to check the refrigerant levels probably needs a few extra ounces of R-134a.*
@@accordinglyryan I didn't think you mentioned the fan issue...me just not paying attention. lol...My bet on the AC would be the condenser fan going bad (slowing down not correct speed) very common aging issue on these cars...
I own a 98 hatchback in Roma Red with a D16Y7 and a 4 speed automatic, but I completed a project 98 coupe in Taffeta White with a D16Y8, that is about to be sold.
Being able to buy any "Golden Age" Honda in good condition and unmodified is a little like winning the lottery! Too bad it's automatic Well it's like winning the scratch off ticket lottery...lol Nice one Ryan!
@@accordinglyryan More like 99-00, since 96-98 had the pre-facelift front end and climate control/radio, while the latter had the facelift front end and climate control/radio. I own a 98 DX hatchback in Roma Red, but I also have an EX coupe version of the same year but in Taffeta White, which I plan on selling.
I swear, all Honda’s are pretty reliable but the most unreliable Honda would be the Honda Crossroad (which was the time when Honda worked with Range Rover)
@@omarzowila My family bought a '92 Honda Civic in 2014. It was in great cosmetic condition for its age, but it was by far the most unreliable car we've ever owned. I do like Hondas, but I don't think they are all quite as bulletproof as a lot of people seem to think. Their automatic transmissions also seem to be garbage.
@@accordinglyryan The manuals are very hard to find, either they were riced out years ago and beaten to death, or the owner loves his car and will NEVER sell it.
