Hi! Yes, I did the thing and graduated basic combat training and AIT! A week ago I became MOS qualified as an Army musician. I look forward to making more videos to educate you on what I do in the army and help you with your process. Leave any questions for me in the comments, thanks for watching!

I found your channel when I got curious about how barracks currently look. I was stationed at Fort Bliss 87-89 (yeah, I'm old) in the Public Affairs Office and wow have things changed. Also, I found it interesting that you were sheltering in Ann Arbor since I am a U-M grad. Love hearing about your experiences as a military musician. I wish I'd had that chance ... not too many opportunities in the Army as a violinist! I also joined the Army relatively late in life (I was 25 in basic) so I find that interesting as well. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for making all of these videos! I just finished my freshman year of college this year but have been considering enlisting in one of the branches after I graduate. I’m a STEM major, but I’m a member of my school’s audition only (I think they take about 15-20% of the people who audition each year) marching band, audition only pep-band and the campus concert bands. I have been considering reserves or air national guard for doing something related to my major, but have also been looking at possibly auditioning for an active-duty band once I hit my last year of school. I really appreciate getting to see a look into what it’s like to audition to be a musician and to actually be a musician in the army. Army isn’t my first choice of branch but I’m sure there are a lot of similarities in terms of the audition processes between branches.
@AbbyWeaver
@AbbyWeaver 4 года назад
That's awesome, Allison! You are so young and have so many options ahead of you but it's great that you're thinking long term already! The Army audition process is similar to the Marines, but the Navy and Air Force have been holding "cattle call" type auditions. Feel free to message me on instagram if you wanna know more about what the Army bands have to offer. The other branches are certainly great but I think the Army bands set you up pretty well from the very start. Thanks for watching! ❤️

I love your videos and I’m so glad to have finally found a channel which talks about military bands!! Do you think you could explain the process a bit more about national guard bands? Originally I wanted to join the Air Force band but I realized it was extremely competitive. Also, even though musicians cannot join as officers, would you still recommend joining ROTC just so one can have some prior military experience?

hey I'm wondering I want to join the airforce I scored 42 but I did really good in the electronics department my recruiter told me I could get any electronical job I want. With that little score would they just dump my body in the front
@AbbyWeaver
@AbbyWeaver 4 года назад
Hi Rose! I can’t speak for the Air Force as I’m in the Army but I can offer a few words of advice. Don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter these questions. Ask them once, and then ask them again the next week- see if their answer changes and that they’re being honest with you. Talk to a lot of people! If you have done the research on the jobs available to you with an ASVAB score of 42 then go ahead and take a job that will make you happy! If you haven’t researched all of your options then take the time to do so and work on getting your score up. I know a lot of people take any job because they just want to ship ASAP but I would really encourage you to do your research and study hard for a job you want! And also- unless you sign up for an infantry position, they are not going to put you on front lines. There are very brave people that train hard and tirelessly for those jobs, electronics would be a different chain of training. Hope this all makes sense. Thanks for watching!
@ClydeWright
@ClydeWright 4 года назад
Thanks for the video! I'm curious about why you had to to AIT after BCT. My fiance won a job as a vocalist in the Army Field Band and is currently in Basic at Fort Jackson (how I stumbled up your channel) and as far as I know she'll get out of basic and immediately report to Fort Meade after that, with no AIT required. (She, like you, has a Masters.)
@brianjungen4059
@brianjungen4059 4 года назад
Clyde Wright The Premier Bands that do specialty auditions like the Field Band don’t have an AIT, you just fo directly to them. For the regular Army Bands you have to go to AIT.

@246tharmyband7

You will need to wear glasses at basic--they will issue you a pair of glasses to use. Contacts should be okay at AIT.

@AbbyWeaver
@AbbyWeaver 4 года назад
Rasp? And HRAP is for active duty soldiers to do after AIT before moving to their first duty station. Even if your AIT is where your first station is, you should still be allowed to do the two weeks of HRAP if you meet the requirements. (For 42R, you had to be in good academic and physical standing)

Hey! I’m interested in joining the military... I’m 28 though, what’s it like joining after college? Also, how often is MEPS?
@peppa_jack
@peppa_jack 4 года назад
I'm 27 with a bachelors degree and I'm shipping out in August. I can't say what it's like to join since I haven't been to basic yet, but you should know that MEPS happens whenever you're ready for it to happen. With me, we waited for my MOS to become available. Then my recruiter put a hold on it for me and I went to MEPS 7 days later to permanently reserve the job. It seems like my local MEPS is open for recruit physicals/contracts/oaths every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
@AbbyWeaver
@AbbyWeaver 4 года назад
There are actually more people that join after college than you would think. Peppa Jack explained it pretty well^^ You’ll only have to go to MEPS to get officially qualified to join whatever branch, and then again the day you ship out. It depends on your physical results if you’ll maybe need to go back before getting qualified, but once you’re in service you won’t go back.
