Dressing for your body doesn't need to be a struggle. I've found setting a basic foundation of PERSONAL style rules to be key to finding strength through style. Learning how fabric, silhouette, and overall head to toe look can affect your personal style is key. So let's figure out how to dress for our body types together. No conforming, but rather embracing ourselves and style.

Yahhhhhh. - fabric talk, I have no idea what fabrics do what, and it is important the way a fabric falls or flows or god forbid stiffens !! If we understood this we might make better choices! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video.

I didn't use to wear medium length or long dresses because I thought I would look small. Once, I decided to try a longer dress and turns out that I like how I look because I'm a soft dramatic and, although I'm quite short for a soft dramatic, I look taller and I have long legs. Thanks to your videos and Aly Art's I'm improving my style and respecting my vertical line wich I didn't normally do. I'm rewatching some of your videos because I want to buy some clothes knowing what I'm doing. Thanks for all the useful info!!

This video is everything I needed right now. You articulate and shed light on so much of my style confusion and frustration. I was ready to give up on looking the way I want to but now I'm really starting to believe there is a way to get there! Thank you! Would you ever do videos on tips for kibbe types that have ~conflicting~ essences? I'm a dramatic who is really drawn to casual romantic and flamboyant gamine type styles and I'm trying to navigate that. Very uninspired (personally) by the common dramatic style suggestions.
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
I'm so glad to hear it helped, and yes- you can definitely get there! I plan to do an essence video soon. I wouldn't necessarily view it as conflicting, I would look it at as expanding. You might follow the general dramatic lines (honoring vertical etc) but then the overall head to look can have the playfulness of the gamines or elements of the romantics. For instance, FGs have some staccato shapes which would work well for a dramatic. I would swap out the color blocking thats more traditional gamine and add a colorful or printed coat with playful accessories. Or for a casual romantic look for the dramatic you could try balancing out some of the frillier pieces with some foundational pieces (like a heavier weight trouser or jean). But, I will definitely be adding an essence video and I'll include some more info on this

I’d like to see tops next, if possible. This must sound really weird but I struggle to find those everyday tops that are comfortable enough to get thru the day in but still look ok on my curvy body. I don’t feel good at ALL in the bodycon ”kim k style”, it’s just not my cup of tea…but on the other hand if I put on a loose or mens t-shirt I look like I have instantly put on 10 kg because of my bust- it lifts the t-shirt and suddenly I am a tent😄⛺️🎪
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
We can definitely do a video all about tops and how to accommodate different elements of your body. What fabrics do you normally gravitate towards? Because lighter fabrics, like silks or very light cotton, might give you a bit less tent without going too bodycon.

What an interesting approach to dressing! Now that I think about it, two of my favourite things about my SN body have always been my proportions and my defined waist, no matter what my weight is. My favourite outfits have accentuated those attributes in a tasteful, comfortable way. Like you, tight clothes make me feel like Hulkette, which I hate. But I can think about accentuating other aspects of my body (eg. shoulders), if I do so intentionally.

Thank you for your sharing. If there’s a chance you saw my comment, i hope you can make a video about this: best colors + favorite colors that’s not in your palette. I found your channel and website recently when I went down the rabbit hole of Kibbe (still no clue what I am, I am struggling with both the answers and tallying to get a result as most answers I hover between Bs and C's). But with a traditional body type shape, I'm a rectangle and I have a lot of similarity with your shape, just a little bit shorter with wider thighs. I'm looking at all of this as I'm curious since I have a a very defined style. Although we have similar bodies, our styles are very different. I'm all about either looking long, lean and slim or perpetually faking an hourglass (I have loads of wrap or faux-wrap dresses). I also favour bright or strong colours (because I'm super pale), lots and lots of print and draped fabric. I'm always de-emphasising my stomach and thighs and highlighting my collar bones, small wrists, broad shoulders and long neck. I love my style but you're making me think I could pull off more masculine leaning style and silhouettes and it might look good on me. Love your channel and the humour and understanding you bring to your videos!

I love my shoulders , decolletage, collard bone, legs , waistline and hips. I always wear skinny jeans ,bootleg or straight legs and I like to wear fitted tops and narrow straps and rounded high or low necklines . It's nice to hear I'm in the right direction

I think you can get easily confused when having to much clothes, which distract you from your main idea. May it be from gifted clothes, very old clothes, that no longer fit your style, clothes that don't worship your bodyshape, impulse buys, clothes that are limited to one single occasion, clothes which don't work with the weather of your area ... The list goes on and on. I want to add something from my story: I'm a dramatic classic who likes to dress elegant but always with a twist (aka having something to mess with that style like a neon colour, an unexpected fabric choice, a sporty element ...). If I'd have to pic the three things, that are most important in my style to me, It's a) looking put together b) not loosing my cool c) being in control over my wardrobe, make it kind of everything goes with everything, only have what I wear, don't have to much items (I am a minimalist) Recently I found out, I don't like my closet anymore. How came that? Over the last six months I had gotten giftet clothes from different people a lot plus I bought a lot of stuff for work. All over sudden I had clothes, that I liked, but only certain aspects of them. I would have never had picked the clothes that were gifted to me by my self in a store, but I liked them enough to take them for free. Turns out, they don't fit that well in my wardrobe. It's not that easy to create outfits with them because I don't have a lot of pieces that go with them. I didn't need those specific pieces in the first place, so I don't own the clothing items to complement them. To be as happy with the new pieces as I am with my former clothes, I would have to buy new stuff. Bummer. My work attire on the other hand I had picked my self. The clothes are easy to combine and suit the occasion. But at the same time they are so gerneric and lack of my personal essence - I hate them! I can only wear them to work because they aren't versatile stylewise at all! Now I look profesh at work and feel stupid inside, not like my self. I look like somebody boring else without a soul. To sum it up: I am now left with an amount of hateful clothes that make up 1/5 of my entire warderobe (I dind't had much to start with.). It took me a while to figure out what's the matter. As I said in the beginning: I think you can get easily confused when having to much clothes, which distract you from your main idea. My solution: I will order all clothes by season first (I am a huge believer in capsule warderobes.) Then I will pick out all the things I like for sure. Then deal with the left overs. I am willing to let go some of the gifted clothes. At the same time I allow my self to buy one missing clothing item per season to make the gifted pieces that I like work. And I will try to win over my hateful work attire by bold accesoirising, maybe be some couple new ones, finding ways to combine the single work garments with the rest of my closet, so I feel more like my self at work and lastly, I couls find a way to love them more by by altering them (dying that silly white blouse a more vibrant colour f.e.).
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
This is SO true! It's really easy to get overwhelmed with a stuffed closet. And I find the more stuffed my closet is the less of a handle I have on my outfit possibilities. I think seasonal capsule wardrobe help so much. They make it so simple to just focus on the pieces you can wear for those couple of months. And they make putting together an outfit much more simple since you're not wading through all the other pieces you own. And I totally feel you on the free clothes thing, you think "oh, I'll just hang on to it in case I want to wear it" but you never do. Sounds like you have a good plan on how to start paring down your closet. And I love the idea of adding your own cool touches to your DC id, that's what it's all about. Finding your best personal style thats unique to you.

There's one thing that confuses me about how I dress and look best -- I'm a SN, 5"4 (at least the last I checked, which was... a while ago), and I am plus size, but I definitely look best in longer, or long-midi dresses, and don't thrive when I break my vertical line... Any idea why? It's kinda confusing, but I tested it over a long time, and I have photos of me standing next to actual tall people :) I'm definitely medium-short and compact-wide with curve, AND I definitely look great in long, slightly oversized, straighter line dresses such as shirt dresses. Any help would be much appreciated!
@neon.neutral

what is the general recommendation for short vertical line? I gravitate towards petite clothing because my legs are short and torso long. i feel like I look shorter than I am, so even though I'm 5'6" because my head is so big I look short. harumph.
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
Matching your proportions to your clothes so if you feel you have smaller bones or smaller lengths looking towards shorter hems/sleeves would be less overwhelming on your frame. And keeping the textures not to heavy as that can add visual weight. Cropped pants or above the knee can work well. As well as a more slim fit. Or if you do let’s say a cropped wide leg, keeping your top more fitted so it doesn’t feel too bulky

Regarding long vertical line - I was told on Kibbe Reddit I have one, and people do tend to think I’m taller than I am. But by your definition (from shoulders to knees) I’m not so sure - bc although my legs are long my torso is very short. If anyone else In the comments has similar proportions - do you find that dressing in long vertical lines is best for you? Or are you better in juxtaposed flamboyant gamine lines?
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
So what's your height? Because if you are over 5 ft 8, kibbe would say you already have a long vertical line. However if you're shorter, Sarah Jessica Parker is a great verified example of a long vertical line. While yes, vertical line can be seen as "perceived height" I believe the kibbe exercise line drawing over your ID photo is to show the distance between the shoulders and knees. If you have longer legs and a shorter torso, and are a shorter height, then FG could be a possibility (depending on if you have a yang influence). That would mean you have some elongation but you don't need to honor your vertical. You could also try on some styles and take pics. I think it's pretty obvious in the video that the longer hems suit me much better. The shorter hems (even with heels) tend to shorten my overall look. Let me know if this helped!
@kate4733
@kate4733 2 года назад
@@Gabriellearrudadesign Thank you, that is very helpful! I'm 5 ft 6, which I believe is the top height limit for FG (I'm pretty sure audrey hepburn is 5'6). I def lean yang. my most common response to body pics on kibbe reddit was D, but there was very little consensus overall with FG, SD and FN responses. what makes me consider FG is the way my short torso and wide hips (in a very square way, not a soft curvy way) seem to contrast the rest of my body that looks very slim and elongated (arms, legs, face). It seems like when i see other Ds, their slim elongation has continuity throughout their entire body. but maybe i'm just an uncommon type of D? I think you're right, taking pics will be the next step, in FG and D lines. I haven't tried the line drawing before, so I'll try that too! thanks so much for taking the time to respond to all of my comments LOL you are so sweet :') i hope your channel gets super big bc i truly think you have so much to offer and could help so many people!
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
Yes, that would be the top height for a FG (generally speaking). FG's have combo yin/yang so they often do well with staccato shapes but with horizontal breaks. Whereas a D would do well with sharp shapes but they need to honor their vertical. This can be a hard thing to "quantify" but do you feel you need to accommodate petit? Generally, are you kind of small all-around? I don't mean do you shop in the petit section, but more like a general "small bones" look. Gamines really have that juxtaposition, so if you notice a bit more "disjointed" proportions throughout your body that can be a good indicator. D's do usually have that elongation everywhere- and that's because verticality is their dominant trait (not just an elongated element here or there). I'm always happy to respond, and that is such a kind and appreciated compliment, as well. It TRULY means a lot to me. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the line drawing or style try ons!
