So if you're new to the kibbe system or kibbe level 100 expert, you've probably felt a bit boxed in at one point or another. But it is so important to learn that clothes don't have specific IDs! WHAT?! Yes, it's all about the head-to-toe look and how to make trends and pieces work for YOUR Id.
What trends or pieces should we do next?

David Kibbe said to Vox that he was pushed by editors to be more assertive in his advice. He wanted to be more fluid, while they wanted him to "box" women. This explained to me the misconceptions to me.

I love this not because I want to wear trends but because it’s what is available in the stores (or in my pre-Kibbe closet) and we need to understand how to make it work. I have a soft spot for romantic girly tops and I’d love to understand how to wear the ones I have as a dramatic classic.

Hi Jill F. I don't know if you will see this, as you posted 3 months ago. In Kibbe terms, I'm closer to a small Dramatic Classic than anything else. Flamboyant Gamine just doesn't quite add up. But I'm much closer to Kitchener's Ethereal type than any Kibbe type. Gabrielle has a video on Essence which includes this type, as does Elyssa. It might be that some of the ideas help you - it's not all about wearing angel wings 🙂 If I wear a "girly" top, I just keep the jeans / trousers /skirt really simple and quite fitted. That way, I honour my lines and my personality. Sorry if this is all self-evident.
@jillf4882
@jillf4882 2 года назад
@@AlexLouiseWest its interesting you say this. I identify a little more with ethereal than all out romantic. Flowy sheer fabrics, put a flower appliqué on it and I want it. “I am a garden fairy” kind of look. 🧚‍♀️ I have also worn romantic tops with jeans which I think is an instinct to not go overboard but sometimes they just sit in my closet because I think they are too much.
@ingupin
@ingupin 2 года назад
Hi Jill, I am a dramatic classic with a love for romantic styles as well! What I found to be a perfect match is pairing romantic tops with sleek, classic, A-line pants ending at your natural waist and tucking the tops in. This creates the silhouette and crispness that you need to balance out the romantic. Also, it's sometimes better to match the tone (think white top and beige trousers) than going for contrast. Hope this helps.

Loved this video! I would love for you to do this with the grunge style/rock and roll. I’ve always been part of that scene and as a young person whose body wasn’t developed yet..It worked so well. Now that Im more developed I think I’m more of a Romantic trying to do the classic rock and roll with a natural essence. Idk how well that’s working. It has been difficult to transition my wardrobe from teenager to adult.

I LOVE THIS!!! As a teenager that's into Kibbe, this is amazing, I'm a Romantic (reconsidering to TR) with ingenue essence, but I'm so confused bc I love more of a street/ androgynous style and all of the suggestions are feminine and cute (which I agree that suit me better, but, oh well) I'll love more videos like this! I love the tips for continuing to use those “almost” clothes in the closet. Basic tailoring changes and you look so much better. The most expensive tailoring won’t get you anywhere if you tailor it for a different body type.

Being an ethereal essence is so confusing because of all those dominant traits you mention!! There is a soft elongated curve. There is curve AND length. And if you have natural in your blend you must also accommodate for some width. Very eye-opening. Thank you so much Gabby!!

You are truely a gem! What a great video idea and so well executed! I wanted to ad something: In the first example, you suggest romantics should go shorter with the hemlines than gamines. From my point of view the opposite would make sense, since gamines are shorter than romantics, so, therefor this should be mirrored in their clothing lines. Sometimes I see romantics in mini dresses or skirts and it can look a bit compromising, since they tend to be lushious/ voluptios. It looks like they have chosen a clothing piece too small to fit their curves. In my eyes they are better suited with hemlines ending a few inches under their fingertips, keeping in mind this is still considered a "short" hemline. Gamines on the other hand, can cary miniskirts very well, without looking trashy or too sexy. It looks youthful and girly on them, fits their personality. If you're a true gamine, it looks trendy, if you're a soft gamine, it looks cheeky, if you're a flamboyant gamine it can be red as bold or androgenous. Of corse nothing is canceld for anyone. I myself am a dramatic classic and 1,75m tall, so quite tall. Midlength hemlines really look great on my, but sometimes I like to make a shorter or longer skirt work for me:)
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
I totally agree, I think it depends on the individual proportions and what they are trying to communicate with the outfit. For that first dress, it's obviously a sexier dress (going out look), so a shorter hemline for romantics might be ok (depending on the person). I think hemlines especially depend on style goals, but the general guideline would be not to overwhelm your frame with fabric which is easier to do with the yin types. Like Christina Ricci ( a verified R) would look so cute in a short skirt... But Beyonce (another verified R) might have to go a bit lower with hemline because of her exact proportions.

This was very well explained and well exemplified and damn you SERVED those dramatic looks I must say!! Just started my kibbe journey but very quickly identified as a soft classic. The simplistic and more or less classic styles I tend to gravitate towards with a lot of pieces make a ton of sense within this context and yet I also really dislike the softness or preppiness the soft classic style can exude. I love street style and athleisure out of day to day practicality for my work and also it's just easy lol but yeah I'd love to see some of the more edgy types of looks for all types especially for us softies, and also ways to elevate or contrast our kibbe types in bold ways that still work. That may be a tall order lol but hopefully you'll consider :)

This is fantastic, best for me of your videos so far. Now I see me being classic, always symmetrical, long neck, neat healthy body, polished however done, whatever genre, in minis when that was on in the 60’s with snakeskin coat over it. ( narrow so some verticality, long legs) but big eyes and love shoes..those with bows and ankle straps! the romantic shoes are natural for me, though I have loafers, vivobarefoot barefoot and gobis boots. And the merrell barefoot vapour glove 3 minimalist runners. Classic but never tight. Just getting an inkling based on this. Realised that indeed a round disc clip on earring is best, or curved around lobe, small round rings, plus just bought some 1950 lovely little cultured pearl screw ons.Thank you. Pulled out an 3bay camel hair blazer with padded shoulders, yes it’s wearable after all, good. Inspiring, thank you.

Gabby, your content is extremely helpful and absolutely the best among any Kibbe-centric content creators out there. You are well-spoken and give such illustrative and practical examples. Okay #fangirling over… I am commenting to suggest a video like this one but with an everyday casual outfit. Like a “work from home outfits” for the body types… I’m talking athleisure-level casual. I think it would attract so many people who are only just starting to play with and learn fashion. Everyone’s been in athleisure since 2020 so our wardrobes can accommodate this to start playing around immediately without shopping. I am a (suspected) soft classic + light summer, so I’ve been able to see a surprisingly striking difference it makes just to play around with variables in a plain white tee such as tone, weight, fabric, construction etc. Madness! Anyway keep it up girl.

BUT only when i wear some kind of tights or leggins underneath, otherwise i look nice but a liiiittle off. that migtht be because wearing colourful legs and a colourful jacket keeps my vertical line in tact, which gives me enough stability in my longness so that i can truly deliver crazy prints and patterns on short dresses and skirts. that is soooo fascinating!!!

yeah its annoying that kibbie got rid if pure types because i think that would mane it more confusing for people. My mother and sister are gamines i woukdnt say FG and definitely not SG. I have always been good with my style but im quite an analytical person so these styling systems really grabbed my ibterest , especially kibbie. Although i didnt particularly need gelp personally , kibbie started out as an interest but it ended up gelping me oyt to be able to understand why what works works and why what diesnt wirk doesnt which allowed me to try new shapes ,in new ways and have a clearer trained eye on what i wear . Kibbie also opened up the door to self love , i hated how short i am , i hated my curves, my small 30 b/c breasts and i also felt i needed to wear heels to feel confident. Kibbie changed all of that, i now quite like all of those features and naybe i might love all those features because they make me , me and i would just hate to look like everyone else . Kibbie has really stepped up my game and i love kibbie for that ❤️ im SG but i dont religiously follow the lines and i think of myself as being more inbetween SG and TR really because i dont have the boxy shoulders and i have alot of delicate TR features in my face , torso, the narrowness to my legs and my hands and shoulders . The SG comes out through my legs , hips and feat and the fact i dont have double curve . This is why i look bad in boxy shapes and A line skirts that are always recommended for SG.

I’m not narrow enough to be a SG even though I can pull off those lines, my head is smaller in comparison to my shoulders. I’m not super doll like. I have a very muscular body (genetics) plus I work out but I’m a little overweight. I’d say I look like JLo and Salma Hayek had a baby and it’s legs were stumpy AF. TR is ok but too intricate for me. When you do soft dramatics as just dramatics the look is no longer right for me as a soft dramatic because too much sharpness. Perfect for a straight dramatic but the softs miss out. I feel.

Yes I didnt include soft dramatics specifically in this but tweaks could easily be made to add some softness to that look and to accommodate curve. This was more just to show how important the head to toe looks are and how to apply trends

Ugh, the more videos I watch on this topic, the more confused I get. I feel like I'm some kind of classic but I'm too tall at 5'9. I look so dumpy in long dresses, look bigger if I don't wear clothes that are fitted or tailored and I gain weight everywhere equally except my face which obviously gets fatter but it doesn't look fat if you see it separately. My shoulders, bust and waist are all the same measurements and my waist is 11in smaller which makes me an hourglass but I don't look like one.

So taking the proper photo at chest level can really help you see it more clearly. But at 5 ft 9 you'd eitehr be a dramtic, soft dramatic, or flamboyant natural. If you need curve accomodation you're likely a soft dramatic, but that's not the only factor, so do the photo/line drawings might help!

I still don’t understand what are “lines,” where to look for them, and what clothes match what lines lol 😆
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
It can be the silhouette or outline of the garment or in kibbe vertical line is essentially how your eye takes in the outfit (does it flow from head to toe with no disruption or is there sharp silhouette or color breaks that pause that?) They should match your bodies line sketch essentially (accommodating your dominant features). So a dramatic with a long vertical line wants their clothing to have a visually long line, and more narrow to the body. Sharper edges to mimic their sharp bones, longer visual line from top to bottom.

I appreciate your advice. But gurl, wtf is up with your online style? That top is straining itself at the buttons. It needs to be given to someone else, or made into potholders. Seriously. Makes me feel like I'm taking advice about health from a three pack a day smoker.

The openings are designed into the piece- they are intentional not a fit issue. It was a very popular piece 3 years ago. If you bring this type of energy and rudeness, maybe this isn’t the channel for you
