I don't know how some people sleep at night... I thank my mother, and now my husband, who refuse to borrow for anything besides a house. It was instilled in me from very young that you only spend what you can earn. And that includes schooling, cars, holidays. All paid for with cash.
@AjaxNotFrancis
@AjaxNotFrancis 7 лет назад
It doesn't work like that for some people. As a kid, i grew up in a very low income household, and I have a genetic disease that is treatable but with insane medical payments. Meaning, now that i'm going to college, I nor my family have any money to pay for it. I was an average kid, with no scholarships and a mediocre act score. I will literally have to borrow every penny to go to school to get a good paying job, and military is no option. It would be veeeery nice to "only spend what you can earn," however it does NOT work like that
@jennym007
@jennym007 7 лет назад
Francis Scheuermann I am very sorry you ended up with a genetic problem. Yes, treatment costs can be astronomical. My comment was very generalised and certainly was not aimed at someone in your position where you have no choice...you need the medical treatment. Vydio -- you missed the point entirely (and I doubt you even know who Tom Leykis is). Leykis is not talking about who legally is responsible for the debt. He is talking about the very likely probability that most of HIS paycheck will be going to pay down her debt even though he has no legal obligation to do so. If you don't see this, you are very naive.
@toddaustin2198
@toddaustin2198 4 года назад
LBM and John arereferring to what Dave teaches. Once a couple are married there is no HIS Debt and no HER Debt but only THEIR Debt. There are plenty of 🐟 in the 🌊. He would be wise to find one to fall in love with who isn't over a quarter of a million dollars in debt.

@@johnnastrom9400 Hate to break it to you, but I do know who Leykis is. As for your concern regarding HIS paycheck going to her debt I wouldn't be worried. $65,000 won't go very far in eliminating $265,000 worth of debt.

You will only have $70k after taxes, and even then 4 x 60k = 240k < 265k. And that is assuming absolutely no living expenses. It doesn't really matter. She is going to be paying for 10years.

as a chiropractor these numbers are a little off. yes it costs that much to obtain a doctorate level degree. there are associate jobs that pay a six figure income, bc im making that now as an associate. the problem is you have to be a little better than "Average" at your trade to do that as an associate. as for chiros that own their own practice rarely make north of 150k per year is incorrect. i know chiros making less than 100k running their own practice but most i know make north of 200k per year. with some rare situations of north of 7 figures.. point is there are people who accumulate that much debt for this degree and it ruins their life, and there are those who knock that out in 2-3 years and never look back. do what you love but think of the end game in anything that your do!

Chiropractors that make 275k/yr must be the ones that are in cahoots with the attorneys to ambulance chase and swindle the insurance companies, not to mention the 'accident victims' as they usually get like 1/3 the money or less the insurance pays out. I knew a chiropractor that did that. My friend said she was fine, but the attorney and the chiropractor went to town and bilked the insurance company. Of course they pocketed most of the money, not my friend.

that is completely wrong.your friend sounds like a whiny baby. the ins pays out money for the medical care AND the settlement in one lump some. What ?? does she want top keep all the money from the medical professionals who treated her for herself?? AND--you think chiropractors are the only ones who submit bills for the care?? One ambulance trip or a few hrs in the hospital will cost more than months of chiro treatment in many cases. Chiro treatment is the least expensive treatment for those injured in auto accidents .

For people saying student loans are a scam, I beg to differ. My parents could not afford to send me to college. I got a partial scholarship and worked in college. I needed a loan to get the degree for the career I have. I could not have done in without the loan. After getting my Masters, I owed 44K. The first few years I payed the minimum payments, but as my salary went up I started paying off the principal. During that time, I was able to save, put money away for retirement, buy two cars, and enjoy life. I am not saying loans are good or perfectly safe, but for some people, its very hard to accomplish your goals without them.

The difference between oweing tax and student loan. Tax is a fine for working. Student loans is a request a promise for cash from taxpayers that work hard to pay it back eventually. Which would you go to prison for? Taxes! I know people that got student loans to purchase cars and houses then filed bankruptcy. Our government is surely corrupt.

Easier said than done. I went to a law school where many of the students filed suit saying the school lied to them about job prospects, graduate employment, salary, etc. They did not win. It got dismissed. It's something that's rather difficult to prevail on as I think the courts see it as akin to puffering.

FUTURE COLLEGE STUDENTS: TYPE INTO GOOGLE, BLS (INSERT CAREER HERE). The Bureau of Labor Statistics gives information on all careers, which includes median salary of people in that field for the previous year, number of jobs available, and job growth. A 5 second google search told me the median pay for a chiropractor was $67,520 per year.

i think you should just work your but off for 2 years and not pay a dime. Save up as much money as you can, !!Don't put it in the bank buy silver or gold coins and save up some cash then move to a different country and start over. and not waste the rest of your life trying to pay off a debt that mathematically won't be possible for you without extreme slavery conditions and no life or fulfillment of life. think about your choices you life only once, why waste it slaving away to pay something that is rigged, money should not rule the way you life.

Dave is wrong. She should go for loan forgiveness if possible. He’s concerned about her wasting 10 years of her life before the loans been forgiven. Realistically, how long will it take her to pay it off by herself? Likely more than 10 years. The bottom line is, Dave has never advised any caller to seek forgiveness because he is a hardcore conservative who does believe taxpayers should pay of her loans. I would agree with his position if he just comes out and state this.
