Plymouth's biggest hoarder has revealed the heartbreaking reasons as to why he keeps so much clutter in his Estover home. Arthur Watson opened his home to a camera crew and two deep cleaning experts, Caz and Tee, in the hopes that he will be able to see his carpets, cook in his kitchen and sleep in his bed.
The flamboyant 70-year-old has been collecting everything from old newspapers to bicycles for more than 30 years and every room in his flat is clogged up with piles of books, clothes, kitchenware and other scattered belongings.
Over the past year he has been attempting to clear up so family and friends would visit, but feared that chucking out items that are strewn across the floor will result in something valuable getting lost or chucked away.

The lady whose hoarding started with her divorce/separation who met a new guy online and in TWO MONTHS is engaged to - essentially a stranger-she’s willing to give up everything so they can have a “marital bedroom” is NOT in a healthy place. Shame on the “professional” to say she is in a “really good place”. She’s substituting one dependency (on a man) for another (the hoard) for another (new man). Until she can be strong and mentally healthy ON HER OWN- things are not going to go well for her.

This sounds like a simple solution. I would imagine that getting someone who is dependent on other people or things to become independent vs. finding something healthier than a hoard.....? Probably the latter is a lot more likely to be successful.

Yeah, I thought all that relationship was way too soon personally why do you want to get married again to a guy they can’t even put a bed together?😅 Although I think that people do this, almost all the time they just go from one to the other

My sympathy goes to the those cleaners. I helped once clean a hoarders house, its unbelievable how attached they are to things . I threw away a torn cloth and the lady , the hoarder, burst into tears. This is a serious illness and is best handled first with a phyciatrist before sending in the cleaners.

@sandradee1579
@sandradee1579 2 года назад
I think the therapists tend to coddle the hoarders too much. They cater to every single item to be discussed. This delays the process & is counterproductive. The root of the problem is control issues that can be resolved post clean out with outpatient therapy.

I think this show's approach is a good middle-ground. It seems to focus on the person who has done the hoarding, and that person seems ready to accept help. It's not the A&E show where they're in conflict with junk haulers and it's not airing their therapy for entertainment. Simply compassionate outsiders helping to make the person's home safer and more fulfilling in a way they can tolerate. I think it helps us non-psychologist viewers understand the empathy and patience that goes into supporting and interacting with people who have problems we might not understand.

I can understand collecting that gets out of hand and even just having too much stuff but when you have garbage on the floor believing it’s too important to throw away even though you’re walking on it all the time then I’m confounded. Arthur asking the cleaners to treat the garbage stuck to his floors like an archeological dig site shows the depths of his illness. Then he seems to understand he has a problem when he jokingly says he wishes his daughter would come and stay with him from time to time but “for some reason she won’t”. But he is intelligent and articulate with a good sense of humor. You can’t help but like him. Seeing Mandy’s lucrative hoard of vintage clothing makes me wish I had held onto all of my old clothes instead of getting rid of out of style items over the years. But of course, I would have had no place to store them and might have become a hoarder myself…lol.

It's not a very useful thing to do. People with mental illness aren't cured by judgment, and most hoarders already feel shame about their problem. It just makes them less likely to ask for help, because they fear being judged again. Judgment really only benefits the judger, by giving them a sense of superiority.

May be a case of autism spectrum disorder. They often love their routines and have problems adapting to new things. What might work is integrating new clothes in a routine (like October is shopping month where you replace old underwear). But it depends on the person and his executive function.

Irreplaceable audio tapes tattered and stepped on for years. How precious can they be to you when you have treated them this way. They would never play again anyway, even if you could find a player that still works. If they are precious, then pay a professional to see if they can retrieve them and switch them to digital media.

That spike piercing is a little off putting...I suppose she changes it out like so many earrings... IF there's any doubt it does not add to her beauty but peer pressure is an amazing force.

I feel scared for the Asian British woman. She’s still relying on outside affirmation, which got her in this mess. Furthermore she’s only cleaning to take in her new homeless husband😵‍💫 It’s a set up for failure 🥴
