I made this for my brother once and he devoured it. I have also made bacon bits using the organic coconut flakes from the bulk barn. (They are larger flakes than normal coconut flakes) The texture was fantastic, it had a slight coconut flavor but I really liked it!
Have you tried using Tofu paper/sheets which is also available at most Asian stores. It's thicker than rice paper & Yuba (tofu 'skin' that forms on soy milk) and is fry-able. Cut the sheets with a knife into rashers. You can use the same marinade as your video.
I got this idea from Simnett Nutrition, but he suggested to marinate a block of tofu in the same marinade and cut thin slices of it and add it to your BLT to make it more hearty and add some protein. You actually can’t even tell it’s in there and it helps to fill you up and keep you satiated!
Your bacon marinade is my go to. It's so delicious. I found that you can just cook it on a flat top griddle too. I tend to do that more often than the oven method just because I usually make it in big batches and I can do more at once. I cook it to just shy of how crispy I want it because just like the oven method, it gets crispier as it cools. Also the marinade makes an amazing tofu or tempeh bacon if you omit the nooch.
Honestly SOOOOOO good! I made this right after watching the video and am loving this recipe. I never post comments on videos, but had to thank you-this is something I’ll probably make weekly. I can get excited about BLTs again!
Great job I love rice paper bacon. And my thing is if anyone before they became vegan loved turkey bacon, for goodness sake, they are going to dive into this rice bacon like it is the next best thing to sliced bread! It is flavorful may not be porky but like you said it's a really great replacement. I just made some out of starch from washed Seitan and that was so freaking good too.
I actually bought my pack of rice paper for this recipe back in the day!! I really like a tofu bacon in a sandwich to have that protein and nutritional aspect, but adding a few slices of rice paper bacon for crunch is never a bad idea!
I'm a vegan.💖 I tried this recipe. Nothing tastes like bacon but bacon......banana peels carrots mushrooms coconut seitan etc.... It's just like non dairy cheese and nutritional yeast. There are no real substitutes. I've accepted my lifestyle dietary changes. I enjoy eating vegan without substituting foods and save money. 🤗 Substitute foods ARE quite expensive. 🤑
You can place two rice paper sheets together, then wet them, and then cut them as one sheet. This way no matter how you cut you get two strips the same size. I also saw on another video to throw some course salt between the two sheets. It makes little bubbles and ads to the flavor.
I would stack the sheets together first like dip in water 1 sheet then the 2nd sheet dip and stack on first sheet then cut in strips so it would eliminate the waste of sheets when they fold in together. Then just dip in marinade (the doubled strips) place on baking sheet...easy peasy. I do tofu bacon soaking the extra extra firm in the store container in my created brine, slice then and pan fry with alittle peanut oil ( allows higher heat) I do add A little coconut or dark brown sugar towards the end to create carmelization yumminess😋 I think rice paper is the only thing left on shelves these days going to grab some to make the vegan bacon version..great job thank you!
My first question: As I am not vegan and as I don't have access to nutritional yeast, can I use parmesan instead? Second question: What is a good maple syrup substitute?
Would smoked paprika work in place of the liquid smoke? Also I've been looking for tempeh reasons/how to cook tempeh. Can you do some recipes like that? I'm so scared to try it but want to so bad
@@zoehannah6278 no such thing as a stupid question when it's a genuine question. I didn't ask to be be treated like shit by some knob. No need to be disrespectful and rude. If you have some tips that would have been the route to go rather than insulting me. I'm not stupid, I've googled stuff, and I've tried making tempeh but it never tastes right. It's always better in restaurants. I wanna know how to make it taste tight and best tried and true method. Not an asshole remark like yours. Why do ppl like yourself feel the need to belittle others and make them feel bad? Does it give your pathetic excuse for and ego feel good? Try being kind. It gets you further in life.
Hey hon nutritional yeast gives me headaches any suggestions for sub? flour maybe? Thanx they look scrumptious been dying for a vegan bacon to come out. So thanx a bunch
I've made spring rolls before. And love them. If not hundred ingredients may have to try them. Wow, they do look like Bacon. I like chewy bacon. I always ate cold baco. lol.
Yes, I would think to replicate the smokiness of the real bacon. You can order it on Amazon. I have been using it my whole life in my homemade BBQ sauce!
I've been making my rice paper bacon exactly like this for a few years now! With the exception of I dip the sheets, stack 2, then use a pizza cutter to cut out strips at once (It's much faster!)
This is impressive, and almost scary how close it is to the one I remember. The flavors are great, I added some extra salt to reflect a salty bacon, I’m so happy, now I can have a BLT without a poor little piggy being harmed. Thank you so much.
You could also take some of the rice paper bacon & Pulse it in a food processor to make bacon bits! It would be great on vegan Mac n cheese, salad, avo toast, whatever your heart desires
We have made the old recipe so often and we take two sheets of rice paper together, put in warm water for a few seconds and then cut and then use a rectangle pan for the marinade to lay each slice in to coat, which is easier than using a bowl.
Edgy Veg - It’s a great thing to have sitting in your pantry, so much neat yhings you can make with it. You can even roll it around sweet stuff and fruit... 😋😋😋
i love your little intro of the rice paper 😂 mine has been in my pantry for about a year, same scenario, and i didn't know if i could use it. Can't wait to make this !
You are beautiful! Cool idea.. I’m not even vegan... but seeing the creativity of many vegan recipes it is now something I am considering more. Thank you!
oh... you could watch Gary Yourofsky's Best Ever Speech....its not very graphic but makes so much sense( there is just one scene of some cruelty but its very short and Gary refers to it a lot about how the footqage they showed was ''not the excepttion but the norm'''- and then it just clikcked and it made me go vegan on the spot. And since that happened Ive lost loads of weight and my arthritis AND varicose vein disappeared. Oh, and my eczema disappeared also... so if you want a challenge and many health blessings I would highly recommend watch the FULL version of Gary Yourofsky's Best Ever Speech....its brilliant ! Take Care and God bless ( ps and remember that this is the first diet God ever gave us in Genesis, so it is bound to come with blessings!! )
I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, but I love your videos for showing me these cool ways to create substitutes for foodstuffs I eat often and inspiring me to give them a real shot. And to me, a test of good bacon is the humble BLT - I'm so glad you agree that it is a special sandwich for its simplicity!
@@serpentrae I overdid the seasoning for the first batch, it was very salty. You have to be very careful of that, but yes I have made it many times. I also made chips using the rice paper. The crunch is addictive, lol!
Someone needs to veganize McDonald's Fish Fillet sandwich. With all the sauce and square patty. That bastard sandwich reminds me of being a little kid. What nostalgia! (fairly sure Ms. Edgy Veg has already done this though...)
Easy way would be using Gardein fishless fillets and make your own tartar sauce with vegan mayo base. Slice of follow your heart cheddar cheese and voila !
IDK why I added this to my favorites since this is literally how I make rice paper bacon, except I wet two sheets of rice paper together before cutting....but here we are!
I just wanted to share that I tried this recipe and it was awesome. By far the best bacon substitute. I also would like to that I got randomly inspired to add the marinade portion to TVP. If you want a nice protein twist you can use the marinade portion on TVP to make bacon bits. They do take a bit longer to cook but they turned out equally delicious. Thanks so much for this recipe!
Have you done a video on a vegan shepards pie? That would be yummy. Not sure what you would use for the vegan alternative to the roast; jack fruit possibly. Just a thought. We get so many ideas from you and appreciate all the recipes you share.
When we make it at home, we put two rice paper sheets together in warm water, lay them on a cutting board, and cut pieces with a pizza cutter. It's much faster, and so easy!
It doesnt even need oil: just air fry or toaster oven until brown. It has the taste of turkey bacon. Great chrunch. Less browm makes great chips. I use tofu skins.
I really want to make a vegan version of "a full English breakfast" I have gathered bits and pieces here and there, now with vegan bacon, I am almost there :D
I couldn't find rice paper, so I used egg roll wraps. Easy use sissors, cut strip, marinade and put on parchment ,and bake. Perfect thickness, and tastes great. Hubby loved them. Give them a try.
So its Facon. 🤣 Fake Bacon. Or Pacon? Paper Bacon? Anyway... This is one reason I had a hard time being a new vegan. I love me a BLT with avocado! I definitely will have to try this. 😁
