There are many immigrant women where I am and they have many children. All the ones I see who are older than 50 (I think) can barely walk. They shuffle along ten metres behind their husbands. They also seem to have a lot of health problems like diabetes. Having too many kids can ruin your ability to be mobile. Being mobile as we age is very important. Birthing out kids can ruin your pelvic floor. Not being incontinent is important to me.

"Not only is it very SELFISH but also EXTREMELY SICK to wish for your kids to witness your death or the process of your demise. I want to spare my kids from having to deal with all the stress and sadness that a human being can experience while watching how their own parents are dying, Therefore I decided to have no kids." ― David Benatar

Yeah, was awful watching my father die just after my thirtieth birthday. For months afterwards, every time I closed my eyes I would see him in his final hours and it was heartbreaking. Do miss him but watching someone die is incredibly tough and the whole ‘who will be there at your deathbed’ fear tactic is totally random. Actively dying is not a spectator sport and especially not for small children to witness.

@@jansleyreal you’ll be surprised how many people our age have decided to live a child free life. All my friends are 38-50 and none of them have any kids. I think many in this generation have really figured that there ain’t nothing positive about having kids with the crazy bs going on and this economy. People complaint about stress, about having difficulty making ends meet bring a child into the mix and it will get even worse. The little time I have is for me to enjoy the way I want. I am already here and that is all that matters to me!!! Throughout this past years I have seen so many people from work getting married and getting divorced, now there are a bunch of single mothers dealing with child support. I actual don’t know how do they get by in this economy. I admire them. I am not trying to be any of that. Just don’t care for it. Peace and silence have more value to me than anything else.

I'm childfree too. One of my biggest concern is the deteriorating state of the world we live in. Almost every part of the world is experiencing extreme weather patterns making living impossible. With corrupt government and no support from them it becomes even more difficult. As a female, I've seen the many ways motherhood becomes a burden on women. From lack of affordable healthcare to career taking a hit. It's a punishment for choosing to be a mother. Since I'm CF, I get to explore my talents and work mindfully in my career and life. I'm so proud of the choice I made. Because of it I get to actively engage in things that matter. I'm hosting the first ever CF meet&greet event in my city. So grateful I get to bring people together and help build social connections. Enjoy your Thailand trip. Hope you visit us too someday. Sending you good wishes from India

I don't really come across childfree people who aren't happy with where they are in life. Makes sense, they spend their time and their money doing what they want to do. Parents will never admit this because the most terrifying thing in the world for a parent to think is that they made a mistake having a child.

I'm a 55 year old woman who doesn't have children. I've also never been married. I completely relate with what you're saying here. Another thing that is not often discussed is that some people without children pick up the slack in society. For example, I worked in U.S. healthcare for 20 years with both children and adults in serious, traumatic situations. I don't think I could have contributed in this way if I had my own family. It simply would have been too much given what I saw and experienced on a daily basis. Having a family truly is all encompassing. And I agree with you...I started a one person consulting business and it truly is all encompassing. I couldn't imagine doing this with a family having to cater to the needs of multiple people. All the best to you and your endeavors.

Do you regret not having children? Am asking because I am thinking of doing the same
@thepragmatist
@thepragmatist 16 дней назад
@@chuachua-hj9zd I love kids, but I am glad I did not have children of my own. It would have been too much for me. It really is a huge responsibility and I take my responsibilities seriously. For example, I have an older cat (almost 16 yrs). I am up at night every two hours with her because she is very thirsty and needs to drink water. (She has dementia so she doesn't drink on her own.) I can be there for my cat, but I knew I couldn't do this for a child (it would be too much for me). To have a child, you really need a very supportive partner (and supportive extended family) and raising kids becomes the center of your life. Plus, my childhood was very dark and challenging and I needed time to recover from that. I did not want to pass that on to children of my own. With all this said, I may adopt a teenager in the future if it makes sense to do so. Right now, I started a consulting business and if I am successful, perhaps in the future, I can adopt a 15-17 year old, which makes the most sense because everyone wants a baby and not a teenager. All the best to you with your decision.

For those commenting "who cares", I don't think this video is meant for you. I live in Chicago and I don't want kids, but that isn't a big deal here. When I visited a friend of mine in rural Louisiana, the first question asked everyone asked me was "Where are your wife and kids?" They got very judgmental with my response that I didn't want that, it made me glad that I lived in a place where I didn't have to deal with that. For many people in liberal cities, this video doesn't mean much. For those in small-town 'Murica, it might be a nice reminder you aren't alone.

I think as woman in America it stems from lack of community, universal healthcare, rights taken away, cost of living, no universal childcare, and the world just becoming a bad place overall. Fertility is down globally because of a lot of these reasons.

The world is less violent than centuries past but white people won’t let anyone feel that because it’s not satisfying to ruin the climate without everyone else feeling crappy too. Also, don’t speak for me. As a Black woman in America...I just don’t particularly desire to carry a child nor be responsible for it as a parent in any capacity. We are not all having the same experiences though for you to loop us in together because BW who do want kids have to consider medical racism that kills us more than other group when pregnancy is involved, climate change we aren’t driving but suffer for via environmental racism when white people’s(richer mostly Spanish Hispanics and certain East Asians too tbh but it’s white supremacy based), landfills are placed by our homes to pollute the air causing youth to have skin and respiratory issues lifelong(if not ruin our water from river dumping rural white towns do that drains into mostly Black cities like Jackson), and the assault against our existence by police, systemic/institutionalized racism unaddressed, and now schools even banning our books, lessons on race, and some wanting the little bit of history they tell about us besides segregation(slavery that they lie about being gone as if the thirteenth amendment doesn’t clearly state it’s not) off school curriculum. Now I personally hope that drives the more baby loving to make even more of us and fight the system but I also totally understand not wanting to risk one’s life or their child’s for that effort. I’ve had medical racism affect me in literal life or death situations more than a couple times. Can’t imagine doing it in a situation where the body is already trying to accommodate another life form. There is no American woman and white women’s voting habits make that very clear, as do white Latinx women’s, and more AA women than I care for even if overall they still vote blue(it all sucks but don’t actively hate yourself for goodness sake)
@Nothereforit174
@Nothereforit174 2 месяца назад
But the world isn’t bad, and often you’ll find the places struggling have a western source to thank so is the world becoming bad or is just suffering consequences of white imperialism/colonialism that’s ongoing in many cases and never fixed its mess before leaving in others? Like Afghanistan, how dare our CIA ruin their democracy for a power foothold in the area when it was more central, then desert them because “bring home our troops”? Well maybe people signed up for what they did and we shouldn’t interfere if we don’t want to partake when the getting is no longer good. From a society of people living alongside each other how they chose to women not being able to leave their homes or abusive relationships, because our leaders couldn’t stand the idea of a democratically elected communist. Remember these things when saying the world is getting bad as you live safely and Palestinians die because of something British/US forces started and the US is literally participating in. It’s not the world. It’s certain areas that you don’t have to worry about anyway, that are just blooming with conflict from seeds planted long ago, while you say meaningless things and don’t hold your government accountable for their actions in the mess

I’m childfree by choice as well. It’s a decision I struggled with for years but came to a moral conclusion. Here are my top 10 reasons why I will NEVER have children…. 1. Children are expensive, I can barely support myself. 2. Parenthood is a lot of responsibility. 3. It is selfish to bring a child into the world. 4. I like having my autonomy and freedom. 5. Climate change will be a problem in years to come. 6. I’m a vegetarian which would be problematic with children. 7. Possible heath (physical and mental) conditions may come along. 8. The education system is poor. 9. Too much school drama (bullying, shootings and stabbings). 10. I’m too old now (age 40) and there can be risks at this point. Again, those are just 10 reasons but I have so many more reasons (over 100). Being childfree is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I have zero regrets.

Having volunteered with many children with autism before, giving birth to a child with birth defects is my biggest fear, and the biggest deterrent for me. @@SimplyTakara89 i think it’s because my fear of having an unhealthy child far exceeds my desire to have a healthy child. With a healthy child, I feel that my well-being will only improve slightly. But with an unhealthy child, i think my well-being will go be significantly be hampered
@SimplyTakara89
@SimplyTakara89 2 месяца назад
That means you let fear win. It’s so relatable growing up I was told I was a scaredy cat and worried about everything all the time (I still worry too much, working on that). I hate fear because it can be so detrimental to us, fear stopped me from alot of experiences and when I choose to go against fear the greatest things happened as well! I carry the sickle cell trait, if my husband also carried the trait my kids would have the full blown disease. I also carry something else I forget the name but they told me if my husband also carried it my children wouldn’t even really been able to be born something about organs getting to large causing miscarriages well anyway he doesn’t carry any genetics I carry. God is powerful both my children are healthy and like I said my husband carries none of the harmful genes I carry. I also lost my mom 1 month after my daughter was born so yes there’s a lot of fears but fears don’t mean truths…

One of favorite ridiculous lines used on me is: "You won't know if you'd be a good parent until you tried" So if I do try and it doesn't work out, can I send the kid back to the factory? Can I do a cash exchange? Kids aren't something you try out, they're not a product you can ship back to Amazon if you're not fully satisfied. The very idea that these people think you can just try out being a parent, as if it was a college class you can drop is just absurd. 😂

People choosing to be 'Child free' is ALSO good for people with kids. - It allows more resources to be made available to families in need like - childcare, maternity leave, prenatal care etc... - 'childfree' have more time and energy to help out and contribute to society in other meaningful ways "It takes a village to raise a kid" more and more these days. Stressed out struggling parents will thank heavens in a few years as there will be many 'childfree' friends and family members that can help out from time to time. - baby sit - tutor kids - talk to and emotional support (childfree have more time and energy) It's a GOOD thing for everyone and far from selfish, it's thoughtful.

This is amazing. I never wanted kids either my mom was a single mother we struggled a lot growing up. Also I'm biracail and I was bullied for like twelve years in public school growing up. Which lead to a condition which made it crystal clear not to have kids. I invest in my hobbies I have two gym memberships. I like going to coffee shops reading spending time with my family and going on meetups. I love cats and I want to volunteer with cats until I get another one. I'm an animal lover. I love my life. But I do work with kids. I see myself as their fun childfree aunt even though they are not related to me. But yeah I'm going to keep my job it's also for a school district so there are really good benefits. I'm currently on summer break. I'm loving every minute of it. It's so nice to hear from men who don't want kids. Keep doing you.

Thank you for sharing! I am just like you. I dont want them for most of those reasons.However my main reason is because I dont want to give birth. 😅 I have health conditions that will make things more difficult for me pain wise. And I dont want to ruin my body perhaps it sounds selfish to think that way but it is what is. 😂 Also, I can't afford it either. Something thats helped me is having a pets. Cats are the best thing for me. So if I feel lonely I can always count on them to make me laugh or smile. They sometimes howl at night for no reason at 3am. Lol which reminds me of a baby. 😂 Anyways, I wouldn't worry about what others say about this topic. You do what makes you happy and I hope you can find a partner who is on the same page as you.

I for one cannot in good conscience call myself bringing a child into this world that we live in. There's the fact that this world is a scary and disgusting place that is going to hell in a hand basket more and more everyday. There's also the fact that I'm someone with a very short fuse and I do not have the patience for the responsibility that comes with having to raise a child. There's also the fact that I struggled with my weight for the better part of my 31 years on this planet (I inherited my weightiness from both parents) and I would hate for any child of mine to inherit that and have to deal with the same struggles. I also have some personality traits and behavioural characteristics that I DO NOT wish to pass down to any child. Then there's the current education system which has gotten so deplorable that I would have to be a total maniac and moron to even think of subjecting a child to that. And that's not including the bullying and the other mess that goes on with that. Then there's the fact that unemployment among young people is so outrageous, I cannot stomach the thought of my child having to inherit a world like this. In short I value my peace of mind way too much to jeopardize it with having a child I know I've rambled a bit but yeah those are my hang ups about having children. As a man also, I'm happy to see more and more men addressing this topic. Peace everybody.

Thank you for sharing! I would though disagree with the point 'having kids leads to not having time / energy for business'. Personally, I started being significantly more productive and actually started setting goals, because I had realised I must take care not only of myself, my business, certain liabilities, but also of my child whom I love very much. My business started developing faster and I gave birth. having a child really clears up mind, but I think this doesn't work with all people for sure. I was childfree till I got pregnant (I actually thought I couldn't have kids), and I almost committed the biggest mistake my life, but I then went to scan and saw my son's little arms and legs and I just couldn't. I 100% agree with the majority of your points, and I think, of course, people should decide it on their own. But personally I see the whole beauty of life and creation in the eyes of my son. and other children too. Who they laugh - I can hear the sound of life continuing. I know it sounds silly for you, and it did for me. Again, don't get me wrong, I respect your point, I am just sharing my views here. Hi from Russia, by the way! :)

Number 8 is something people rarely consider, but to me it's very disturbing that people choose to have children not understanding that their child could easily come out with severe health issues, mental health issues, disabilities. It's a gamble. I would say the majority of people who are trying to have kids, if you asked them if they're prepared to take care of that child for the rest of their lives and spend every cent on their care, they would probably say no. To me it's so incredibly selfish that people have children hoping the kids will bring something to THEIR life, essentially playing lottery with someones life. Unless you're fine with and would appreciate a severely disabled child and you're fine with caring for them for their entire adulthood, AND you're fine with your adult child going into the care of strangers who probably won't care about them when you die, then ok. Have the kid :) I'm Antinatalist, but you don't have to be one to understand that if someone is not prepared and wouldn't be *honoured* to take care of a disabled child/future adult, then choosing to have children of their own is very wrong. Because you ARE gambling on whether or not that will be the case.

I'm not gonna lie, that's a very difficult scenario to be in. I'm not even going to pretend like I'm qualified to give advice here. What I will say, is differences in preferences on children is nearly impossible to compromise on. Either you're willing to have kids, or you're not. There's really no middle ground. If you have the ability to go to the relationship therapist, that would probably be the most reasonable step.

Yeah all parents I talk to within work and other places always talks about their kids, and nothing else. Which of course is understandable because your kids should be your world if you are a parent. However 80% of the time, they complain, and live each day on repeat. Everytime they are happy, or say they look forward to something, it's always when they have a childfree weekend. People say children is an investment for your own future. "Wouldn't you be lonely when you get old?", "Don't you want to be around loved ones at christmas or when you're retiring"?. Well for one, that is a selfish reason, so don't get kids because of just that, those parents end up regretting more often than not. And second, don't people realise that a lot might have siblings, cousins, friends etc.? If you're super unsure, you probably will regret either way. Just live your life and if it happens or not, that is all fine. Don't force yourself into it however

You made valid points, but having kids is beyond just facts; it’s a deep love and connection that words can’t capture and only becomes clear after you have children. Yes, it’s challenging, and you start prioritizing your kids over yourself, but it’s incredibly fulfilling in the end. Everyone should live the life that fits them best, and since we are all unique, everyone experiences and thinks differently, which is perfectly fine. Enjoy Thailand! 🌴

There is no life lost, literally or in potential, until a human is born and safely taken its first breath. Before that even a pregnancy can be still born in late term for nothing related to the carrier. So it’s not selfish unless you’re saying people have to try their hardest to bring other humans into the world, those who can’t are failures or to be pitied regardless of how they feel, and that you value the idea of a human whose life quality you can’t predict, over a person here who may not be mentally or physically in the right place to have a child at any point. You’d rather that mom break her body down some more and a dad who never really wanted kids be an angry parent passing down traumas. And if this child existed then sure you can say better they’re here than nothing because they have a chance.....but nothing is nothing, and can’t be worried nor can anyone be egotistical by not bringing it about. Otherwise nuns, monks, and parents who have crippling genetic diseases they decide not to pass on are all egotistical. Either everyone should be having kids or it’s not essential. You did what you did or plan to do. Don’t place that on others because there is no actual concrete moral or ethical issue that you wouldn’t be basing in pure opinion about one not having kids. It’s not a human rights issue. People not conceived are not people. Really from a scientific point of view neither cell clumps but that’s another conversation. One is their own person once they start breathing and being able to intake food outside the body of another person. They’re you’re imagination and have no rights before then, and even that imagination is a false idea of people you know since the human mind can’t conceive of people we haven’t met in our mind’s eye. So really the question is useless and baseless.

isn't having a kid more egoistic when all the resource you give them could help the ones who are already on this planet instead and suffering? I have adopted cats from the street, and I feel making a kid instead of helping cats would be more egoistic. And why would it be egoistic anyway, you can't owe someone who doesn't exist.
