Much love man. Goodluck! As the owner of a 1994 Hiace SCL for over 3 years I can say with certainty that its my dream car. Iv loved every moment in it. It has so many stories and memories I from all over NZ. Strangers recognize me just from the van alone "oh we seen you parked up having a party around it" or "Yeah we saw you dancing on the roof during the show last night" "You were the fool driving down the motorway with people hanging out of the sunroof" Yes. But your right it takes alot of constant work to get it presentable. But I wouldn't change a thing, Its so reliable and ive defiantly gotten my moneys worth from this machine and more. It still goes hard with no issues but it will die one day. This has been one of my biggest fears..... But not all good things can last forever. Your right, Just drive it and have fun with it while I still have it in my life. This was the biggest relief I could have gained. Ever since I realized that earlier this year Ive been able to drive it and enjoy it without worrying about the future. Amazing vehicle, I'd do anything to keep it on the road including becoming a auto painter after it was hit by a tractor in feb this year... Happy to say she's all fixed up better than ever and back on the road :D To be fair it never came off the road even though the crash was pretty intense. I wish you luck friend, with whatever may come. Your content has been very helpful! -Z

Oh bro that's awesome. I completely hear you. I can't sell this. Even if I want to I just can't. See you in Aotearoa next year. Can get some shots of both our vans. Can't wait to hit Muriwai in this.

@@nathansharma87 Thats close :D Ill come out for a photoshoot and we can swap info if im free at that time but im too scared to take it out on the beach anymore. its old and our sand at least where I live is black sand so I have to very thoroughly rinse the shit out of it every time. Its also not 4WD like your one so ive been beached 1 too many times hahaha. Almost lost it to the ocean one night at 4am. I gave up and just went to bed in the back expected to be washed out to sea with it 😂😂😂😂 Luckily an angel in 4WD with light bars and recovery tracks came out my rescue hahaha. Ive had alot of fun doing skids and taking people down the west coast but Ive had to make the strong decision not to put it or myself under that stress anymore ahahah. Ill keep an eye on your channel and get in contact with you when your close. Would love to hear your takes in person :D

How strange and good point. How the heck did the sunroof clamp bolt get in the engine bay. Some mysterious are never to be solved.

Mate, I had to stop 10 mins in to wipe the tears! I was cryin over you description of what all is going wrong. Sorry for sayin that. However, you've opened my eyes to what i was thinking as my next move. I currently have a 1993 Nissan Gloria GT and LOVE IT! I bought her at auction 6 years ago in Japan and shipped her to Florida USA. When I bought it, it had only 30,000 kils on her and was in nearly mint condition. Now since then, I've replaced, not all at once, the 28 years old battery(after 3 years of drivingt her), the alternator twice, a shattered headlight lens (had to buy the entire assembly 2 lights and housing only costing $60 USD but shipping was an additional $200 USD from Japan), Tires of course and that's it! I was recently thinking to trade my Gloria for a Nissan Caravan of a 1993-1995 era. But now I'm having a double think! The HiAce is a very nice van....thought about it too, but not now! Most everything on the Gloria is easy to get to, and here in the US, it's much like the Z cars, the M45 Infinity and the Nissan Maxima mechanically, so not a major problem thus far. Cheers for the video, got me thinking(Finking lol)! Cheers!

You can coat that pitting on the aluminum with jb weld to smooth it out.. That will stop the leaking

You are so right about your statement regarding the 'typical' attitude from mechanics in Australia.... Unfortunately this same attitude is common amongst many trades..... Of course there are many exceptions however.

mine popped a little rubber hose under exhaust manifold and i lost all coolant very quickly. i fixed that which was a nightmare to replace. now my water pump is leaking like bad. so you know that now means its water pump, timing belt, fan belts, vicus hub oil.. and do the radiator while all that off.. radiator is a nightmare..

Someone backed into my super custom and cracked the front bumper, pretty minor. Smash repair said the whole bumper needed to be replaced and they didn’t want to deal with getting the parts, insurance paid out 4 grand. It’s barely anything I just touched up the paint and pocketed the money
@nathansharma87
@nathansharma87 Год назад
Yep, most panel shops will refuse to do anything on it and insurance companies refuse to find parts. I'm really happy mines going back to New Zealand where we get 95% of parts and workshops know and will work on them like normal cars.

Hate to say it my brother, but welcome to owning an old vehicle. I have a 30 year od Landcrusier, cool as hell but it needs constant love. In the case of possibly writing it off, come on man, if youre scared of that, are you also scared of crossing the street incase someone runs you over? Are you worried about flying in case the plane crashes? Live life in the now, dont worry about the 'What Ifs'. For the guys that buy these vans online and get ripped off, not your problem, stop worrying about shit thats not your concern. They need to do their own due dilligence in who they use to import, Yes, it sucks, but dont lose sleep over what happens outside of your life. In the case of the sun roof, I worked as a Panel Beater and one thing we always had probems with was sun roofs, none of my vehicles hve had one, youre asking for leaks and rattles.

I have a KZH132V the radiator went not long after i first bought it and it is a hard to source one at the time because it is made for the water cooled turbo setup on the engine, it cost me an arm and a leg to fix. Also the the intercooler boost pump went out and started making a godawful noise. The original pump is discontinued so i had to order an aftermarket one myself and i did the work myself in the end . I just put in a Turbo Boost Gauge and it is hitting 11 psi, but i think it is really gulpy when it is under load like climbing up a hill.
@nathansharma87
@nathansharma87 Год назад
Can't imagine having a radiator go out. Mine gulps copious amounts of diesel. Ideally it needs to be put into a workshop and get like $4k worth of parts thrown at it, then it will be sorted for another 25 years.

I have been shopping for hiaces for the last few months. All the dealers are patching up rust holes and doing hack jobs and trying to sell them. They want top dollar as well. I might go with LC prado since I dont have do deal with fancy stuff.

Oh that sucks bro. Yeah they really are hard to get a good one. Like a HDJ80 they were desirable new, desirable 10 years old and will always be so it's hard to get a mint one. Vision is probably up there with the best but really they all need a good parts haul and about a month in the workshop getting a mild refurb then good for another 25 years. A bit of half assed patch work as you mention just don't cut it now that they're so old
