because space marines are so strong feminists want something similar or stronger since they cant have female space marines they went for the next best thing
@@sickmit3481 Maybe they should look at the Adepta Sororitas win rate vs space marines at tournaments. I don't think on the tabletop that space marines are that strong. But I agree with your comment.
The tweet is not meant to say "we put them in before you just didn't notice" it's expressing their intention with the change: female Custodes *now* have existed since the founding of the 10k.
@@Skaldzerker i agree with that! BUT thats not the point of most of the hate right now. Its the hate about the gender itself. We can all agree that the retcon part is bs but damn much more important things have been retconned for easy ecamples: NECRONS TWICE, Cadia, Horus death. All three of them are so much more than "Oh no Female Custodes".
Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. Stop your wrongthink. The important thing is that “the message” gets promoted everywhere. Rejoice! Our cherished hobby is now popular enough that it’s on its way to being revised for a “modern audience” just like Star Wars or Marvel.
The most mindblowing thing Is that the tourists are happy about female representation of female custodes aka the top brass elite emotionless automatons that defend a male dictator and his bloody regime that exterminate friends and foes alike on a whim.... They are pushing the idea that the IMPERIUM are the good guys and that they are an example to follow......
You guys are being naive when approaching this, trying to rationalize why it makes sense for female custodes to exist. GW is taking the first steps to female space marines and making 40k a more mainstream setting as it grows in popularity. It is becoming like Marvel or disney star wars. By the way, Kesh, the female custodes from the story, sounds really familiar to Rings of powers Galadriel.
@@TT09B5 It is the way things are now. Some people like it like that, and 40k is going to be for them. I accept it and I am happy for them. I will enjoy classic 40k. Nowadays good stories are found in Indie projects and older stuff.
Every retcon GW made always has some monetary value that goes along with it.. Squats returned because they wanted to sell Votann models. Primaris were made because they want to Re-sell marines. Necrons lore change because they wanted to sell the new models. But for female custodes? There is no model to be sold on the retcon but if you look at their biggest shareholders who are Blackrock and Vanguard Group, you will know the reason why they did it. For that sweet ESG money.
The reason there is so much kick back is because of how lazy this was. They could've woven Female Custodes as something new in the Era Indomitus to account for all the losses they are incurring. But with a tweet that sounds as mature, petulant, and rational as a 10 year old going, Nu-uh they have always had this. As he waves around his action figures, they have ruined this in the eyes of the community. If I were the original writers for the Custodes who made it so the augmentation process could do this, I would be absolutely livid. They destroyed that poor man's hopes by being arrogant towards the community Also they wouldn't be able to change Grey Knights without changing space marines as a whole as the Grey knights actually use geneseed
indeed. there are ways this could have been done tastefully. for example... lets go with the first part. "there have always been female custodies." you could have incorperated the element that originally the role of females within the custodies was as augmented or partially augmented support staff. medics, scientists, scolars, record keepers... but not initially soldiers. the need for soldiers during the horus heresy forced several of these support staff to go through customised augmentations as part of a last defensive measure to keep numbers up. after the death of the emperor, the custodies isolated themselves, with many of the female custodies settling back into serving the duty as scribes and medics, but very few warriors. with the indomitus crusade and the custodies being sent to fight on the front lines once again, their attrition rate began to rise, and with it the return of female custodies being augmented to martial duties once more. THAT would make for interesting lore. that the augmented male fighting custodies are not the only kind of custodies. that they are the pinnacle paragons of what the emperors ideal would be. a shining example of the BEST of humanity. and the female fighting custodies are always more of a last resort, able to fight on par with their male companions thanks to extensive augmentations, but also skilled in the arts of medicine, philosophy, science, and culture. that would avoid most contradiction in the lore, by reframing the custodies to be more than just the emperors golden bois, but that they are what the emperor wished for humanity to become. female custodies fighting in the heresy... its part of a last ditch effort to preserve humanity against the traitor space marines. probably wearing power armour or artificer armor, but closer to the kind used by the sororitas than their male brethren. why are we hearing about the female custodies again now... because the imperium is on the brink and females are once again being augmented to be better at combat for the needs of the war machine.
@jonathanphillips3052 My dude, your two paragraphs here on RU-vid is probably more effort than GW put into this retcon. Even as a lore dabbler, I've been saying very similar things, but your example is definitely more in depth than mine. Cheers!
it's so obvious this is made in an attempt to ride on that sweet ESG score, it's honestly sickening, but hey what should we expect when Vanguard and Blackrock are in the top 3 shareholders, just one more franchise in the hands of the billionaire overlords of this planet
we thought Japanese IP would be a safe haven from all of this... but ESG is effecting Japanese IP too. eg. replacing male and female with type 1 and type 2. nothing is safe from Larry Fink's tentacles
I think its a weird ass dumb decision, but this is my catch. - I play Guardsmen, so before anyone throws the sexist, bigot, incel at me i do have female models in my army because i whole heartedly believe in equal rights, and lefts, and uppercuts, if my ass is risking my neck the women in the trench is getting EO moment. - I feel more the rage is currently due to how GW is handling the situation, instead of addressing it in a better manner they decide to pull the censorship and basically say to all their fans who probably read more books then the current CEO and shit on the consumer. Honestly i don’t play Custodes so this doesn’t bother me. But i do believe GW’s PR team could have handled this whole situation better.
wait there are models for guardswomen? I need it, more variety is always great when you have to prepare the same models over and over again. (I am into Warhammer for only a few monts so I dont have a clue about anything)
The tweet is not meant to say "we put them in before you just didn't notice" it's expressing their intention with the change: female Custodes now have existed since the founding of the 10k.
Siblings of Battle next? The 40k universe isn't lacking female characters. It's obnoxiously obvious pandering to a segment that doesn't give two f*cks about the universe.
Bringing up women on the military is a silly example. While its true that women can be valuable additions on the battlefield, the Custodes are literally the pinnacle of human potential, the top 1% of the top 1% of the top 1%, in sheer physicality no female could compete on this level, almost no men can compete on this level, its not an insult to say it. A female custode would always be inferior on a physical level to a male one, which would exclude them from being a canidate for custodes augmentation or whatever happens to them to make them a full custode. In lore it doesnt make sense, its the same reason there are no female space marines. They only have the geneseed and equipment to field a limited amount of elite soldiers, it would be foolish to lower the bar of entry to admit females, even if in the lore it was possible for them to survive it. Why are there no women in the NFL? For the same reason: Almost no man can compete on that level.
To be fair, A. Muscle mommy B. They’ve been genetically crafted to the smallest details by the master of mankind, these issues are most likely taken out.
But a Custodes is not a baseline human, they are babies that have been completely remade down to the Genetic level. Custodes are not top 1% of the top 1% of the top 1% in physicality, its the top percentages of suitability for the procedure that matters. Custodes are not the pinacle of Human potential, they are the result of artificially breaking past it. Each is handcrafted by the Emperors gene-smiths, not like the mass production that Astartes are. An astartes is essentially a normal human with extra organs implanted into them and so there needs to be some sort of baseline to go from when dealing with mass-production. Custodes are made to order, no gene-seed at all. A complete reconstruction down to the genetic level. It is definitely a retcon, but does work since while the lore has said that the terran nobilities sons where taken to become Custodes, it was not in the context of saying that women could not become Custodes. Unlike Space Marine lore i don't think there is ever straight out said that women can't become Custodes. I am feeling a bit neutral towards it, i don't feel like a lot rested on the Custodes being an only boys club so it does not matter a lot to me. I do hope we can avoid boob-plate though. Perhaps also include some brothers of silence to.
Oh shut the fuck up. Women have matched feats from men before. That's a cop out and you know it. I'll even further the point - you're saying that what is needed is the best of the best - so even if your just dumb theory that females aren't that strong generally, it's literally taking those special kind. Like American female marines. You have an issue, sort it out.
You sound like somebody who would be ok with mediocrity, lazines, lore breaking retcons. Would you be OK with sisters of battle and Sisters of silence getting this same exact treatment? Be honest. Everything previous to this moment was blatantly "They come from male noble first born, Who are genetically pure and are infants" and all pronouns used for them were all masculine and male coded. People wanted GW to expand SOS and SOB lore for over a decade and this is what they get lmao.
So just ignore the original lore about grots being the ork brain boyz got it or how the necrons were originally chaos androids please this isn't even that big of a retcon
@@kye4216 All lore has them as male, The emperor calls them sons, they are recruited as infant males. "These men never leave earth." "These men are my bodyguards their lives are forfiet" etc etc etc. Whats the definition of son? Whats the definition of men?
@@conorflinn600 A whataboutism. Great thats not a bad faith argument you're making.Last i checked for thos 8 years, there was no fluff, no lore for necrons until white dwarf 217. SO is that a retcon? No because no lore existed beforehand. No books, nothing. They weren't even called necrons because they weren't necrons GW themselves "The early 1990s were a confusing time. Necrons didn’t yet exist, while Zoats roamed the galaxy with impunity. Then along came the boxed game Space Crusade, featuring Chaos Androids.* Okay, technically, it’s not a Necron Warrior, but it has more than a few similarities - evil-looking robot? Check. Strange, esoteric weapon? Check. These Chaos Androids were clearly the inspiration for the Necrons that would follow. As if that wasn’t enough, their lore stated that they were created by Squats who had turned to Chaos! First of Many For eight years, Space Marines merrily gunned down (and were gunned down by) Chaos Androids, and still no-one had heard of the word “Necron”. Then came White Dwarf 217, and within its hallowed pages, we got our first glimpse at these mechanoids."
The thing is, this could have been done to great success if they just made a little effort. Maybe some sisters of silence were upgraded and were inducted into the custodes. Maybe they were running out of guys faster than they could replace them, so Cawl and his goons helped to expand the scope of what being a custodian could mean. The whole "they were always here" is lazy writing at its finest, and sounds like something a 4th grader would come up with. also, this whole stunt is gonna end up being a whopping nothingburger. It's not gonna change their purpose, or their mission, or their weapons, or their abilities, or their involvement, or their relations to other factions, or anything other than a few words in a few books here and there. It does absolutely nothing to move the plot along. There was literally no purpose behind this change other than trying to pander.
Wait until your precious Grey Knights are found to always have been full of "people who menstruate". Wait until the God-Emperor of Peoplekind has always been promoting peaceful relations with the Chaos Gods. In the happy rainbow future, there is only inclusivity, acceptance and diversity. When you are back playing with Care Bears, please make another video to tell us how you feel about it. We will all chuckle together. Look up how many women are in elite military units like the Navy SEALs. You don't have to be a doctor to make a Google search. I'm all for everyone having fun playing WH40K regardless of gender, race or political opinions but if GW want to retcon the lore to appeal to a larger demographic in order to get investors like Vanguard to pour in more money, it is a losing strategy, a short sighted strategy. They will lose their core players, will attract few new ones and the investors will take their money elsewhere. We will be left alone in the ruins of their greed. Everyone can play right-wing, elitist, racist space soldiers but they must remain right-wing, elitist, racist space soldiers or this franchise will lose its soul and no one will play it anymore.
Bro you gonna live a.miserable.life if you let politics and silly arguments on fictional characters make you mad and hate stuff you used to like the woke shit its just another bs social war made by politicians to divide us theres worst shit going on in the world than tits in my male fantasy worlds lol
Female Custodes are absolutely possible in the lore and I don’t have a problem with that. However gaslighting us that this isn’t a new development in the lore is insulting and just makes GW look horrible.
I mean, it had been stated in lore that the 10,000 was made up of the children of the Warlords of Terra. Meaning it was both boys and girls he took to use at his leisure.
Incorrect, do a little more research. Numerous texts and codex's have the Custodes being known as the Brotherhood of Demi-Gods, sons of Terran nobles, and men by the emperor himself.
Wrong. It specifies sons, not children... Sons = Men. Also, if they're supposed to be the elite of the elite, it makes no sense to waste that on women which will not be able to match men...it's all biology.
I am okay with it. I would be less okay if space marines got females because the lore is clear on why it would be impossible but when it comes to female custodians? No problem, there is nothing in the lore that suggest it would be a problem.
@jakemocci3953 it's their property to do whatever they want if you dont like it then stop buying it but to cry and whine about fictional characters lol how low can we go this is shit we would have made fun of you 20 years ago in school and called you a nerd and bullied yo ass lol
Lol. This guy says his “favorite female soldiers of all time” are Boudicca, the Israelis, and the Kurds. Tells you all you need to know. And Boudicca got her entire tribe killed because she had no idea what she was doing.
1. No one has ever complained there are no men in the Sororitas or Sisters of Battle 2. The woke cult ignores the former two all-female groups while bitching about no women in 40K Fuck these people.
